As more cyclists take to the streets, bike lane infrastructure is an important part of a city's transportation. They provide a safer way to travel for cyclists in cities. But, while bike lanes are safer for bikers than no bike lane at all, they still aren't perfect.
Is a white stripe of paint going to save my life from a distracted driver? These are things we cyclists have to think about.
As much as I want to talk about how incredible the biking infrastructure is in Europe, I think other channels have properly covered that topic for now.
So after scouring over 50 city bike maps, who has the best protected bike lane?

Ebikes are bringing many older adults back to cycling. Adults and children should be able to ride to work, school or for fun safely on protected bike lanes.

If this would be the top 10 biking infrastructure in my country, i would never use my bike at all. Almost every route was frightening to watch, specially where the bike lane is in the middle, and not protected at all. (Pollers are not protection.)

Sadly I agree but this is where we are currently in America. Everything is designed for cars. Bikes and people are very low on the priority list. I’m glad you watched, now you will feel even more grateful for where you live.

Always interesting to see places I know very well. I've been around downtown Denver on my bike countless times for a couple decades. I don't see anything special about 14th street and Lawrence. Maybe this shows the sad state of protected bike lanes in US. You do pass by dozens of bars just withing a couple blocks of this route. I don't drink nor use drugs, so to me not much there. Also, Denver has a very serious homeless problem and you may pass by some pretty ugly scenes. One positive there is a good breakfast place - Sam's no. 3, I think on 14th or maybe 15th.

Get out there on two wheels! Nothing quite like it. The exercise and improvement in health is just a bonus.

Go rent an e-bike, you won't be disappointed and you will probably go out and buy one.

Checked into Austin? W 3rd and Trinity, behind the Convention Center. All protected from 1.6 miles with more in the works.

I looked at Austin. S Congress has some protection. Just barely missed the cut!

I was on the bike path on 5th street a couple of weeks ago. The path was full of Jacaranda flowers and it was very beautiful. If you go south from the Gaslamp down Harbor(paint trail for now) there is another bike path that takes you along the bay. You can go east along the Sweetwater river or continue south; this path is broken in a few places but it will take you all the way to Coronado. I only have a 6 mile ride in paint to get to the bay trail, so I feel pretty lucky.

Man, you're just hitting on all my citified interests. Fellow cyclist here! 🚴‍♀CityNerd recently did a video in which Seattle took the top spot for most improved cycling city. Even still, I'm not really a city rider. I prefer the area MUPs and country roads outside the city. But if I lived closer in, no doubt I'd fully appreciate the network. Having moved here from Portland five years ago, I'm not really surprised by that city not being on the list. The last few years have not been kind to it. Hopefully they can turn it around and get back on track.

My man, John L. I biked the Burke-Gilman trail in Seattle, it was glorious. Took a pit stop at Gasworks Park then explored UW.

I visited Seattle a short time ago and I'm green with envy for it's residents. I'll be living in Monterrey CA soon though, which seems like a pretty interesting city for it's size, but the most exciting thing about being there is that I should be able to see San Francisco and compare it with Seattle

Monterey is killer! I feel Seattle is better in nearly every way over SF. SF has taken a couple steps back imo but could regain its top tier status quickly.

@@cities4ppl It's interesting you say that Seattle is better in your opinion, because in terms of walkability and car free living, on paper San Fran is significantly better

Damn, midtown greenway in Minneapolis is a bit snubbed. Almost entirely grade separated and just got an expansion approved

I looked at Minneapolis extensively. Midtown greenway did not qualify as it is a rail trail and not part of a city street.

Yes, I think you are right. Bikes and cars is kind of a bad mixture. There needs to be much more separate bike trails.
