There is no shortage of theories exploring how these monoliths were constructed- from the Creator-god to aliens and giants. This programme chronicles University of Pennsylvania researcher Alexei Vranich's expedition to prove his theory of how the American Stonehenge was created: that the stones were transported across Lake Titicaca on gigantic totora reed boats and then laboriously dragged another 10 kilometers to the city.
To pull off this feat, Alexei enlists the help of Paul Harmon, a world-class sailor and adventurer. Follow their perilous mission from beginning to end - from the initial enthusiasm to the roadblocks thrown in their path, from the joy of their immersion deep into Bolivian culture to the challenging road to their ultimate success.
TRACKS publishes unique, unexpected and untold stories from across the world every week.

Judging from the architectures and designs of the Tiwanaku Empire versus the performance of your work, they are more sophisticated and technologically advanced than we presume. Transporting a large stone takes a lot of toll and time. Imagine transporting thousands of large stones to the top of a mountain. If the Tiwanaku Empire did it with ease and more precision using ancient tools, then more kudos to them.

I was given the impression that the boat building project was restricted to the techniques and materials available to the indigenous people of the time of the construction of the massive walls and monuments that we see today at Lake Titicaca. But it appeared that the sail used on the reed boat was made of modern conventional material. I would have thought that the indigenous people might have constructed their sails (if indeed they used sails) out of the same reeds as the boat was constructed with.

Kon-Tiki was a sailing raft, which was built in Peru and sailed from Callao in 1947 to Polynesia under the leadership of the Norwegian 🇳🇴 *THOR HEYERDAHL.* _The voyage was carried out to confirm Thor Heyerdahl's theories about the migrations of people in the Pacific Ocean._ _Kon-Tiki was built from nine logs of balsa wood, based on twelve selected one-ton tree trunks cut down in neighboring Ecuador. No nails or wire were used, only hemp rope. Bamboo tubes, reeds, banana leaves and some pine planks made up other building materials._ _The crew consisted of six people: five Norwegians 🇳🇴 Thor Heyerdahl, Erik Hesselberg, Knut Haugland, Thorstein Raaby, Herman Watzinger, and the Swede 🇸🇪 Bengt Danielsson._ _In an other project, Thor Heyerdahl built Ra I, in 1969, in an attempt to cross the Atlantic. It is a "reed boat", built of papyrus according to the ancient Egyptian model._

I think this is commendable effort, but i saw more and more modern materials appearing on that boat..ropes, sails and so on. The amount of wood used here could have built a boat also. Some of the stones at Tiwanaku are estimated to be 20-30 tons...how were they moved ?. I dunno, this does not convince me one bit....peace.
@josephpublico2337
@josephpublico2337 3 жыл бұрын
Nothing very modern about rope.... or sails. The wood used could be re-used indefinitely. If that stone was 9 tonnes, then 30 tonne stones could be moved with three times more people/effort. However, this was just a trial run: generally speaking, when you do anything like that, it gets easier with experience, as you add more and more little shortcuts and learn easier ways of doing each phase. Try moving a big stone in your garden: I bet that after moving it 4 or 5 times, you'll find better and better ways of doing it.

@@josephpublico2337 Nice comment, and yes, there is nothing new about about ropes and sails. But this was supposed to be a demonstration of ancient methods...so use what they did...not modern stuff. The "just add more people" thing to lifting very heavy weights has been proven many times to be incorrect due to a variety of factors. Don't take my word for it....look into it.

easy answer, hard labour and lots of test fitting, I blacksmith and its really not hard to make something to fit with just hand tools, you dont need lasers, CNC, 3D printers or what ever to get precise fittings. The thing that gets me the most about the researchers producing the documentary (although understandable given the stark difference in cultures) is the supremely arrogant mindset that the story proffered by the Aymara shouldn’t at least be _considered_ as a possibility. While realizing that academic archaeology doesn’t allow for the existence of giants and that to publicly give that idea credence would invite ridicule if not more serious professional repercussions, considering the Aymara have lived on Lake Titicaca for multiple millennia exactly who are these know-it-alls from the North to say indigenous people either don’t know their own history or are lying when giant skeletons have been found all over both of the Americas?? If this doesn’t anger or at least frustrate those watching this documentary, you probably don’t know about the downright criminal and fraudulent history modification by the Smithsonian and those who would gaslight us forever if we didn’t insist on chasing down the truth despite even the reported wholesale DUMPING of full barge-loads of giant skeletons in the Atlantic Ocean to hide the evidence for whatever reason.

Have you been watching Ancient Aliens? Archeology doesn't allow for giants because.....none have ever been found, unless you count the numerous photoshopped images in dubious youtube videos. Do you know your own history? Believe in Noah's Ark, do you? If giant skeletons have been found all over the world, why have none ever been conserved anywhere in the entire world, by nations with completely different, even conflicting interests? How do you make such a conspiracy last, even through such things as the Cold War? Same as the moon landings: don't you think Russia would've claimed it was fake if there was the slightest doubt? I advise you to stop watching videos about the Loch Ness Monster and Bigfoot.

So they basically destroyed the land by moving all those huge rocks & dumped them in the water. Nice going.

Man was given dominion over the whole Earth 🌎. How can you criticize ethnic natives who have lived and prospered in that region of bolivia for thousands of years?

the answer to the riddle is, Robert C. Christian = Roman Catholic Church, which in prophecy its the beast in chapter 13 of the book of revelation. The beast that rises from the sea. The beast that rises from the earth is America. Jesus has given me the wisdom to understand. I cannot do anything unless my father in heaven allows me.

An. “archeologist”, maybe. But a very brainwashed, naive, and blind one!! This is sad; wasted work, time, and money.

Agreed, this does absolutely nothing to convince me this is how they achieved this. What about the 20-30 ton stones at Tiwanaku ?..moved like this ?..no. Not to mention the ever increasing amount of modern materials appearing on that boat...ropes, sails and so. For somewhere that has no trees/wood they sure used a lot of it as well...take care.
