My mom is making an easy Gobo recipe. No more paying big bucks buying it in the store. my mom's easy recipe calls for shoyu, sugar, konbu dashi, chili flakes (optional), sesame seeds (optional) and some mirin...

OMGEEE! Sister! Our lives are so parallel! It’s truly a Japanese mom thing! My okasama did the same thing!! Sharpen my pencils with a knife or straight edge razor, AND stir gohan to make glue!! And, my okasama did what your okasama did, with kitchen trash-in that she would pick up scraps, and would say “okasan kirai,” whenever I would tell her to just rinse scraps into the drain catch. Niki toh Shinchan, no okasama-Hontoni domo arigatou, for making kimpira gobo! I will be making this for my Oshogatsu menu. I just made and froze 106 gyoza, from your TabiEats video. ❤️☺️❤️ Sister.....you are not strange! I do the same thing with ALL of my appliances. Clean, clean, until they shine! For my small appliances, I even cover them with plastic bags, before putting them away, to keep them from getting dusty. 🤦🏻♀️ Thank you for sharing, okasama! Your recipes are amazing! How exciting that brother will be there with you all, and that he will be cooking Oshogatsu meal for you! Continued prayers for you okasama! We love you! ❤️

I enjoy your videos. I honestly haven't tried burdock. You have given me the desire to try it. I clean like you. Sometimes I overdo it all at once, because I don't want to stop until its done. It drives my husband crazy😁. My mother passed away 28 years ago. I was in my 30's. She was a clean freak. I love watching you and your mother cooking together and sharing together. Thank you for sharing such pleasant videos.🌻

I do love gobo! I do have some in the fridge so I need to make it now! We do use dried shrimp in our recipe. That's the way my mom makes it. Yum 😋😋😋💜 Thank you Okasama for cooking today! 👍😎💜

Yes, thank you Grandma. I love gobo too. I thought it would take more flavored ingredients to make it taste the way it does. But she showed the right flavored ingredients make it taste sooo complex. I hope you and Shinichi can get the time to make a few videos together for your channels. I alway love to see you two on screen together. Mele Kalikimaka, and Shinnen Omedeto Gozimashita, in advance, to you all. I hope Brian can put up with you and Shinichi’s sibling “bickering” for the week. 😁. I playfully, argue about every little thing, when my little sister comes to visit at this time of the year. Glad to see that Grandma is looking better, and stronger. Way to go, keep it up, Grandma.

Arigato, I plan to make for New Years Day. Timing was perfect in Your Mom demonstrating how to make gobo. We’re going to Tokyo Central, hope they have gobo from japan! Again, Thank You! Looking forward to Sanichi’s visit.

Thanks Niki Niki, I wanted a good gobo recipe. I used the fresh local grown gobo in the past but was hesitant to use the long ones you used in the video. I will definitely try this type.

No! Never can have too much sesame oil. Overall, very similar to the way my grandmother from Yamagata taught me 60 years ago.

I looooove gobo! It’s got a great earthy flavor. Do you and your Mom do something special for Oshogatsu? Do you make Osechi? If you do, please share ! Or even if you order from your Japanese grocery store please share!! Love your Mom! She is such a strong woman!!

Hi, Niki Niki, my fam makes kinpira gobo with ginger (rather than chili sauce). I have to go to Nijiya to get some. *nom-noms*

Chinese burdock 铁棍山药 is good too , suited for this I suppose? I once used flour water mix to make glue, lol. My grandma's technique .

My mom used to grow gobo in the backyard. The only bad thing about gobo is it gives you gas.

Did you cry the gobo in oil or water? She explained in Japanese but there wasn't a translation.
