The Civil War Battle of Shiloh took place April 6 and 7th, 1862, in Hardin County, Tennessee, and resulted in a Union victory over Confederate forces. C-SPAN's American History TV visited Shiloh National Military Park, where Chief Ranger Stacy Allen showed us artifacts from the battle in the Park's Visitor Center, including battle flags and personal items from soldiers. He also took us behind the scenes to the Park's storage facility, where he showed us the two rare Civil War tents featured in this preview. Watch the full program at cs.pn/ItUk8S.

I've recently been reading "Hardtack and Coffee" (1881 veteran memoir about Union camp life), and it pointed out that Sibley tents only had a short life. They were so heavy to transport and difficult to set up, so they stopped being used when everybody had to move around a lot later in the war. I came here to KZfaq because I was hoping to see a semi-permanent winter camp setup. When armies went into extended camps they would build walls, stone chimneys, doors .....etc, in a way that we usually associate with prospector's tents. I was hoping to see some pictures of these setups.
