There is a happy anomaly in the Bandstand kinescopes available out in the universe. While there’s almost no footage for many years of Bandstand’s 37-year run (like the 50’s and early 70’s), there is a nice string of consecutive episodes available from late Spring 1967. Not including the May 20th episode, which I don’t have (or doesn’t exist), this “string” goes from May 6 -June 17, 1967 (6 episodes). Here is the 3rd week of the “string”.
As you watch these back-to back you can see that some of the dancers did not change clothes between tapings (A big no-no I’m sure). This was required to give the illusion that episodes were taped on different weeks when, in reality, they taped 3-4 episodes in an afternoon. Also, the strobe light Spotlight Dance is gone from 2 weeks ago and the show is still being taped at Vine Street Theater as the kids are still sitting in the stadium-style seats.
I’m not sure what the film was from The Who as it was erased from this kinescope.
On the Billboard Hot 100 today:
1) Groovin’ - The Young Rascals
2) RESPECT -Aretha Franklin
3) I Got Rhythm - The Happenings
4) Release Me - Engelbert Humperdinck
5) The Happening - The Supremes
13) Here Comes My Baby - The Tremeloes
17) Somebody To Love - Jefferson Airplane
20) Sunshine Girl - The Parade
21) I Was Kaiser Bill’s Batman - Whistling Jack Smith
39) She’d Rather Be With Me - The Turtles
46) Let’s Live For Today - The Grass Roots
50) 7 Rooms of Gloom - The Four Tops
Happy Memorial Day everyone!

RIP B.J. Thomas 1942-2021. Loved his hits "No Love At All", the ooga-chaka-less "Hooked On A Feeling" and of course "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head". I remember every singer on tv sang "Raindrops" when it was popular.

Just my 2 cents, but I thought the song selections from this show were maybe the best of any show I've seen so far. Hearing the "forgotten" Sunshine Girl, was especially fun.

Good Saturday and hoping all is well. It doesn't feel like summer here, more like fall football weather. Great seeing another full length that goes close to the others. Just finished part 2 and will comment on it there. Lot of the regulars today. Don and Peggy looked smooth as always. Frank, Famous, Olivia, and the rest doing what they enjoy. I liked the opening of the show. Kind of threw me off and thought it was one of those add on PSA's inserted before the show. They had a good sense of humor on some.

John Pollard makes me laugh in these videos. He seems to be doing his own thing & loving the camera. With his tall lanky build he comes across like tuned out beatnik. And even though he has dance partners it’s really hard to who they are sometime because he’s in his own zone! I love this episode & year for AB. I was 5 when this came out originally & the biggest thing I can remember in 1967, was going to the Montreal Expo. Thanks Aaron for this video!

@Catherine I get a kick out of watching John too. Unless he's on a riser, I can't tell who his dance partners are either. I suppose you could describe him as a Freelance dancer. But he always seems to be having a great time, partner or not. I wish he would come on board and comment on his performances. He has in the past I know, but not lately.

One man's opinion; 1967 was the best year for music in the 60s and Jim Miranda was the best dancer on AB during the latter half of the decade. Also, John Pollard was a gas!!

@@briansullivan3487 Ok, here's that story. I always considered that Famous Hooks was the premier dancer on AB. I basically thought that I didn't even rank other than a guest told me one time that she knew who I was because I started a dance style in Texas. So I see the upcoming promo for the AB 30th Anniversary show (in 1981) and figured that Famous would get some video coverage for being great and who he was, etc. Lo and behold, he and June were ON the show sitting at the table with Dick. They were chatting about the 50's dancers and then they showed a clip of me as "Rubberneck Don" representing the 60's. Which sort of proved my point, but I was excited about the mention and the accolade. I had a link to it for a while. And then DC Productions, pulls it from youtube for copyright infringement. Being able to watch these videos, of which there was no way to record them at the time, has been a blessing to me for a chance to relive those days and see that I did have a presence, plus learning about the other dancers. We didn't interact much. Famous and I never said a word to each other. Lauren Montgomery was the friendliest to me. Many Thanks go out to Aaron for recreating this era in time, however he managed to pull this off. It is amazing!

Me as well. The three who were on the Hollywood Hotline were Al Nichol, the lead guitarist who later went into a career with Sherwin-Williams; Jim Tucker, the rhythm guitarist ("Tucko") who just passed away last November decades after leaving the music business; and Jim Pons, who had just arrived in The Turtles' lineup after his successful run with The Leaves on bass and is now teaching music.
