There is a happy anomaly in the Bandstand kinescopes available out in the universe. While there’s almost no footage for many years of Bandstand’s 37-year run (like the 50’s and early 70’s), there is a nice string of consecutive episodes available from late Spring 1967. Not including the May 20th episode, which I don’t have (or doesn’t exist), this “string” goes from May 6 -June 17, 1967 (6 episodes). Here is the 3rd week of the “string”.
As you watch these back-to back you can see that some of the dancers did not change clothes between tapings (A big no-no I’m sure). This was required to give the illusion that episodes were taped on different weeks when, in reality, they taped 3-4 episodes in an afternoon. Also, the strobe light Spotlight Dance is gone from 2 weeks ago and the show is still being taped at Vine Street Theater as the kids are still sitting in the stadium-style seats.
I’m not sure what the film was from The Who as it was erased from this kinescope.
