I grew up in eastern Kansas where lots of American black walnut grows . . . absolutely beautiful wood. I now live in Hawaii. Have you ever cut a koa log? Koa is spectacular wood. I have also been to New Zealand. Have you ever cut a swamp kauri log?

'Juglans nigra' American walnut or black walnut is a native tree of [primarily] northeastern United States and southeastern Canada. It is highly prized for its beautiful appearance and high quality/durability. I don't know if there are trees transplanted or cultivated outside of the USA or not. The size of this log suggests to me that this tree is likely 50+ years old; I'd guess it was imported.
