So I thought I would give this Woodturning with epoxy resin a try. I am having an absolute blast on this old wood lathe I picked up. Woodturning is definitely a skill that I am lacking in proficiency and really look forward to learning new teqniques and tackling new projects. This Walnut and resin bowl "turned" out amazing and I for sure have plenty of ideas for future projects.

Its some very nice work. As someone who works with wood and epoxy a lot, I'm always dumbfounded by how much epoxy people pour and how much wood and epoxy gets wasted, but this is the easiest path to a very nice result.

Thank for watching! I am still pretty new to this and am curious about your comment. First off the scale might look out of proportion in video. Bowl is actually quite small. Approx 8” diameter 3.5” tall. The wood is all left over scrap pieces so not concerned with wasting scrap wood. As far as the epoxy, I’m not seeing a better way to do this while still easily maintaining the spacing required to achieve the final outcome. Is there an easier way? Am I missing something ? The only way you might be able to save a little resin on a design like this would be to cut your middle 9 blocks shorter and then insert a softwood square above them like a plug. However, the amount of resin saved would be minimal in this case. Beautiful work by the way.

The concept and design are brilliant...particularly the methods you used to maintain the wood spacing and keep the resin symmetrical. From my own experience, designing a piece like this one can be every bit as challenging as actually turning it. Well done.

We’re about the same vintage and share the same attention to detail. Recently retired from a lifetime of cabinetmaking, started with my talented father as a kid. Very refreshing to come across your vid. So sick of all the BS online, any fool can have a channel. Stunning bowl! I am going to use your work to attempt a similar resin and wood bowl. I hadn't thought about using a fan to cool the resin (bleed off the exotherm) during the setting process. That's a great technique that I will use.

Small bit of advise, think it all the way thru first. Between the safety gear, tools, and accessories needed the cost easily doubles. I greatly underestimated the additional expenses above and beyond the cost of the lathe, but man it sure is fun. Thanks for watching!
