In Nigeria when we say "vegetables" we actually mean green leaf, and not the other stuffs that qualify as vegetables too (carrots, cassava, lettuce, onion etc) And the tribal mark thing is just on the face, that culture is phasing out though Also the intestines thingy gets cleaned thoroughly, it's pretty good Btw you have to be aggressive to survive in Nigeria, if you acting all calm and collected, yeah sorry you'll only end up last in most scenarios... You gotta be tough

Every tribes in Nigeria ve their own tribal marks like me I have mine in my face and its my identification where I'm from . Am an Edo guy from the great Benin kingdom in Nigeria I have mine when I was like 5yrs old by my grandmother. May God bless her soul she died last year 113yrs . The tribal marks was also one of the defenses against slavery. Back in the day, If a child is lost, the marks can help with reuniting with the family.

That’s why when people say Africa is so poor, they live with less than 2 dollars a day…. They actually have no idea what you can buy with only 1 dollar. It can be a lot. When you don’t want to eat local and want to go to a supermarket and those kind of thing. 2 dollars won’t be enough. Street food is huge in Africa. Every corners, every streets, lot of people sell food. Baked, fried, fresh…something. If you stick to local food and fruits. You can eat an entire week with 10 dollars. But people always forget the context.

That whitish cereal he had in a bowl after the Abacha is called "Ogi" and it is made from grinded corn which is then fermented that gives it a slightly sour taste not millet. The reason why it is white is because they used white corn in making it. You can mix sugar/milk/chocolate powder into it for a more sweet taste

I saw this video of one of our Nigerian youtuber in UK where she showed their lunch on a Sunday afternoon and she said that was the heaviest food they ate that day and I was like "Whaaaat!, how can you call those snacks heavy?" That's like snacks to me in Nigeria and you call it heavy?. We like food abeg, we no wan wahala

Bolé (Boli/Roasted plantain) and groundnuts (peanuts) are considered a snack over here in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. The ultimate combo is Bolé and roasted fish...i know how many of my Lagosian friends have been converted to the "truth" 😀

The tribal marks are given for many reasons Like a child whose realm of reincarnation wants to take back through illness, And for protection spiritually Some are for physical issues like against food poison, stroke , etc Just to mention a few And every ethnicity has their unique ways and difference of style marking Some are done on the face , hand , stomach etc

Nice reaction guys, actually for the balance you pointed out, the people usually have a cloth folded and placed on their heads to pad whatever they carry. That gives the balance when the goods are on their heads.

Beautiful video I must say. Lagos captures cultural melting pot, every tribe is represented in that city that is home to over 25 million people (that is just the registered perm residents. If we have to count people that are actually in Lagos, it's over 30 million). The local food is the way to go. The restaurants and eat-ins are so expensive.

About the tribal mark, it's also given on other body parts like the chest, and back. Where i come from, the southern Nigeria (Bini tribe). It's sometimes given on the stomach from traditional health reasons.

You don't need a flat head to carry anything on it, many people roll up a large scarf/fabric, place it on their heads before putting the item on. It takes skill and practice! Lagos can be A LOT for Nigerians too, so it's okay. If you have a sensitive stomach, you also don't have to eat street food. I literally eat only roasted plaintain and roasted corn(sparingly), you can get almost every "street food" in restaurants too

In Nigeria, roots are not considered vegetables. So food stuff like yam, cassava & the likes are not seen as vegetable. The exception is carrots.

They can't spend 100 dollars on street food in Lagos or anywhere in Nigeria it's not possible. 100 dollars is almost 80,000 Naira when you change the currency Expensive restaurant you will on meal tho 😂 Thank you exploring our way of life 🙏🏾

Shaki is the stomach of the cow. I think cows have a four chambered stomach so the shaki "meat" can have different patterns on it depending on the part of stomach that it is.

In regards to the tribal marks… it’s mostly a tradition found in most ethnic groups across the Country and can be done in different parts of the body, depending on one’s ethnic group. In my case, I have one on the side of my stomach and one that run from my chest to my navel, and the one on my face are so small it’s hardly noticeable. (Owan, Edo State) 😊.

I think they refer to shrimp 🦐 as crayfish . Their crayfish are ground dried shrimp it’s in powder form added to almost every soup as a spice, it is not crawfish 🦞

Most people with tribal marks have it on their faces. But I know another tribe in Nigeria, the Bini people, some of them have tribal marks on their belly. Tho some were given as part of the traditional treatment process when they were sick as kids

Nice to meet you guys. Tribal marks were the thing back in the day (no longer popular: Amen). It's usually on the face but sometimes on arms. The old generation got them but the new ones don't. You don't usually see young people with them anywhere this days. Very glad about that.

Reason for the marking was to help people not to get lost for ever. Those tribal marking where for identification, and was the reason some Yorubas taken into slavery by europeans were able to trace back their native home, people like Samuel Ajayi Crowther and Sarah Forbes Bonetta Davies both had tribal marks when they were stolen/taken away by the europeans . Samuel Ajayi Crowther graduated with a PHD from oxford university and was the first black Bishop in the Anglican archdiocese. While Sarah Aina Forbes Bonetta Davies was the little african princess carried into slave ship but luckily adopted by Queen Victoria. Aina eventually got married to James Labulo Davies, a lagos business mogul who own merchant ship-liner in the 1800s.

In D.R. Congo, for the tabwa (tribe) people; tribal marks were mainly for women only. They were to symbolise that the girl had become a woman and ready for marriage.

Yes one can get tribal marks on different parts of the body, buy most on the face, hands and legs. For tribal identity, family heritage, medical issue, for different purposes though. Once u see one having a tribal marks, u can easily identify where they are from and all that . But people don't really bother much abt these anymore, since phasing out since the late 90's

As time goes, people just lose interest in ancient practices and a lot of people who live in urban areas would need to travel far into the country where the traditions are still strong to do things right and so it just slowly dies off. It is not banned or anything and is still practiced deep in the country.
