I dont condone tourism like this. Having have worked at a aids orphanage where we were supposed to "perform " so that tourists could donate more I felt disgusted . If you want to tour poverty in order to tick a box or feel better about yourself then don't do it. There are legit tours to "Townships " if you really want to go there.

Language...the 'black' township right opposite my colored township! Not everyone lives in poverty in Langa and other townships. There are huge houses there and many affluent people..but besides that..the majority of the community is rich in kindness. I have many friends living there who are amazing

They is a neighborhood in the free state south Africa were a American company owns 10 mines but their do not give back to the community .

Well human zoos are no longer allowed in the West, so poverty tourism makes sense to be the next step 🤷🏾‍♂️

I live in South Africa. Have my whole life, and I think it is despicable that there is such exploitation taking place in those disadvantaged communities! Those tourists with their camera's taking random photos, of especially the kids - who know no better - Makes me fume! Rather go to the bushveld and take photos of our wildlife - hang than on your wall in your house!
