I think a few times that F-15 was trying to fly you into that radio tower.

So for anyone NEW: Gravitational potential energy = Altitude Kinetic Energy = Speed Nose Authority = the hability of a plane to point its nose as quick as it can to whatever direction it wants Nose Positioning = the hability of a plane to point its nose to a given position, if this requires a tight turn, it will drain speed from the plane making it move below the point of better maneuvering, so therefore making it less maneuverable than the enemy plane. Tighten the turn = using the aircraft maneuverability to turn beyond the point it can keep turning without loosing speed, which will drain energy but make things harder for enemy aircraft one circle = a turn fight between 2 aircraft in which both converges with their nose pointing each other two circle = a turn fight between 2 aircraft in which both aircraft are chasing the tail of the enemy aircraft rate = the ratio of turn degrees / second an aircraft can perform. Every plane has a certain speed point in which it will give its best rate of turn rate fight = a fight in which 2 aircraft are at very low alitude doing a 2 circle fight, so they can only use their rate of turn in order to reach a propper attack position vehind the enemy, and noone can really pull up because it will become slow and an easy shot for the enemy, therefore they are stuck to their aircraft capabilitys and their control and knowledge over those capabilitys. Jink = a little lateral and/or vertical "jump" performed for a pilot in order to move the aircraft out of bullseye The tack view example: What GS did was to lower his altitude ASAP in order to gain speed, and the speed gained served him to have a reserve of speed/maneuverability that he could use in the moment the enemy plane was about to perform its cannon attack. He "forced" the rate fight with the Mig-29 against a slightly better aircraft like F-15, in order to grab what advantage he could get hoping for the F-15 to make a slight mistake. He can guess when that F-15 attack moment is going to be by watching enemy plane, and as soon as the enemy aircraft shows the signs that he was about to perform his attack, GS thighten its turn, knowing that enemy plane thighten it before he in order to perform the killshot. The timing was good enough so the F-15 couldn't point its nose with enough lead for the cannons to point with enough lead. After the evasive maneuver, Mig-29 has more speed than the enemy F-15, and without any altitude to bleed of in order to gain speed, the F-15 only has its engines to gain back enery into the "maneuverability treshold speed", and by that point Mig-29 (a plane almost as good as F-15 in terms of rate of turn) already reached that speed treshold so it presents a better rate of turn perfomance for this specific scenario, and furthermore GS has enough time with that advantage to position itself. The F-15 remains without options and can only hope for GS to tighten its turn "rushing" for the kill losing its speed, something he does not do, waiting for the correct moment to perform the kill shots

I appreciate this video and it's awesome as usual. The One Circle dynamics of the F15 vs the RATE dynamics of the MIG29 are really awesome to watch and very entertaining for sure. In a dogfight, they are a very interesting pair for sure. I am absolutely not complaining, but the MIG29 & the F15 are such great aircraft to fly in DCS that I'm shocked we don't have Full fidelity versions of both aircraft by now (it's been years that these aircraft have been left mostly untouched by the developers). I did however, appreciate the PFM Professional Flight Model MIG29 update they did a while back, but full Fidelity on both aircraft would be so sweet. I understand the 29 doesn't have a datalink, but could you imagine how sweet this aircraft would be in multiplayer if we had a slightly newer version with Datalink. Regardless, we play with what we have and not having a Mig29 Datalink just makes you move your head around more while watching the RWR like a hawk along with constant Bogey Dopes. Watching You and SUKHOI exercise the MIG29 gives me new motivation to do the same. Happy Thanksgiving.

Incredible visuals with the scattered snow storms. That antenna in Round 2 made it look like an air race (Reno, etc.) Imagine air races with live fire against your competitors! Would kind of suck to watch live though, with it raining 20mm, 30mm and flaming aircraft parts! 😜

Ok, before I watch, I’m going to guess the outcome based on my newbie DCS experience. I think the MiG-29 can win. I like flying it… probably more than the Eagle. It has responsive engines with buckets of power, and the afterburners crank up to 11. It’s very agile, too. The systems are relatively simple. Bust most importantly… I find it’s weapon systems work MUCH better than the F-15’s. It’s BVR is much more reliable, to me, and it can carry a load out of long, medium and short range missiles. I find it hard to get the F15’s radar and locks working for some reason. I think the Eagle’s gun targeting might be more advanced, though? Alright… let’s see! After the fight… Whoo, so close-great fight. I didn’t realize it would be guns only, but as I thought, the F15 has an edge with guns. The MiG showed it’s no pushover, though. Well flown, it could have gone either way. Sometimes it just takes one mistake. Damn, that radio tower was like a mystery 3rd opponent, ready to crush an unwary pilot!

Surely you missed me being a pedant, I haven't really flown these since FC2 days tbh but I know factually the MiG29G is the designation given to the reconstituted Luftwaffe modifications to the MiG29A they received from the DRG, which are just straight MiG29A. Since the hot section of these engines are way overpowered with entirely too much afterburner they need constant maintenance to retain serviceability and Russia was not forthcoming with parts for NATO dissimilar flight training the Luftwaffe was using them for. So reunified Germany reworked the hot section to slightly reduce afterburner thrust to increase serviceability and engine life without parts replacement. The other mechanical change they made was piping the shell ejection so the cannon can be fired whilst carrying an external tank, which the MiG29A cannot do. I can't remember if you can fire the cannon in FC2/3 on the regular MiG29A with an external tank but you're not supposed to, the ejection chute is blocked by it and it has to be ejected/dropped IRL, the MiG29S reworked the shell ejection to allow it and of course the Luftwaffe MiG29G modification did too. I'm not sure if both these design changes are modelled for the MiG29G in FC3 but they should be, it's not secret knowledge or anything. It could be they just modelled some cosmetic cockpit differences but it should have those feature changes and be working with slightly less afterburner thrust than is available for a Russian Fulcrum. One of the things that was discovered about the MiG29 in combat (dissimilar training) with Eagles was despite claims by Mikoyan OKB about its structural strength and whilst roughly equivalent in medium altitudes, at low altitude in thick air the F15 is a much, much stronger airframe and could routinely pull much harder turns without threatening structural failure, the MiG would start fracturing trying to keep up. But this is in thick air, as mentioned at medium altitude and higher there is no such issue and the strength of the Eagle in this realm is fairly unique, Vipers and Hornets aren't quite as strong either. Also worth mentioning the Luftwaffe flight leader in charge of the MiG29 for the NATO dissimilar training categorically stated in interviews that with the helmet designator and high off-boresight archers, which NATO birds didn't have back then, even against "the latest Block 50 Vipers" the MiG29 was unbeatable in close air combat, period. He said the American contingent even tried changing the rules several times to score any kind of victories and were just dominated every time. In BVR however, they had no chance against the Viper and there were serious problems with the MiG antiquated navigation system that is also a factor in actual combat deployment people don't think about. Also mentioned a serious problem with data interpretation of the radar/fire control set, the bus couldn't handle effective data volume so target discrimination is very poor. But in close combat with archers, it simply couldn't be beaten by any NATO aircraft bar none. Talking mid-90s here.

The MIG-29 is considered super maneuverable, is it not? I never knew the F15 had the nose authority to match the MIG-29 in the one circle. The F15 has always been my favorite. New respect for it every time I see it in action, in DCS or otherwise. The MIG-29 is formidable when flown well (namely, by GS), but the F15 is angry God. I love it.

climbing should benefit the aircraft with the higher power/weight ratio, right? If both planes climb, the plane with the better power/weight ratio should be in a better relative energy state, assuming that the climb was started from relatively slow speeds.

Apparently, Syria recently took possession of some MIG 29s with R73 missiles. Maybe you could do a fight with those against some Turkish or Israeli F16s.
