In the 1960s we would drive to the one on Springfield Ave. It was worth the drive! Later we moved to a new house off of South Orange Avenue and would go to the on on Rt. 22 westbound by Bowcraft. An older couple seemed to run the place, and the man was missing a finger. I didn't ask! Some years later I realized that I lived on the street where the owner lived--just a few doors away-- but the iron gates with the letter R on each one was not sending the message--come on in. The "double sausage" was beyond a doubt the best in my experience. Great memories.

Last time I went to Jimmy buffs some old guy was chocking on a piece of dog…his wife calmly stated she thought he was choking….the black guy behind him without hesitation applied the Heimlich from the booth behind him while he was still seated…piece of dog flew out followed by whatever else he had eaten, then like nothing had happened he sat there and finished the rest of his Italian hot dog. When he left they just pushed the mess around with some nasty old mop….what an experience, an my hats off to the black guy, guy was cool under pressure!

The oil is really dirty that the potatoes are cooked in first

I've cooked diced hot dogs with potatoes and onions in a bacon-greased skillet for years. Never thought to put it in a big fluffy bun, I will need to try that!

I know it's not a great view but there is green peppers in there as well. The bread looks thick but it's surprisingly "light" it's made the same way traditional east coast Italian rolls are made, just bagel shaped. I'd do it your way, and add the peppers and bread.

Peppers, no onions, Dogs with cheese and mustard would be perfect for me. Love that bread! I would do a few sausages on top of a small pile of those potatoes!
