Maplelea's clothing quality is just absolutely fantastic, easily better than most AG stuff these days. I totally want the whole Canadiana collection. Also, in addition to the journals all being bilingual, Saila's is also in Inuktitut!

Another doll brand that is one of my favourites is a Girl for All Time from the UK. They are a brand of 16 inch dolls that are all from different time periods in British History (I also think they are all related, but I could be wrong).

Lol, as a European ag collector I just want to add that (at least in non-english speaking countries) literally noone knows/cares about American girl and mostly dolls sell on the secondhand market for around 20-50$ even if they are rare, because it's impossible to get rid of them otherwise. Its just kinda funny how some things vary in cultural value so much from region to region. Here In Denmark, our generation has kinda taken the spot of "high end doll" and is sold in luxury toy stores, with retail prices matching American girl.
@AllycatlovesAG

It makes sense for OG to be high end with all of the import fees and costs. Really cool that they are sold in Europe though!
@nekosdollspace

True, here in Sweden most OG dolls are sold for around €60 and up. Swedish Amazon do however have some dolls for around €50.

My only experience with the American Girl Doll lineup was when I was growing up. My cousins whom I used to visit often as a kid, were all girls. The parents would often take us to the local mall which happened to have an American Girl Doll store in it. I remember being taken in and wandering around, looking at stuff. When we went to the mall, my cousins and their Mom would talk nonstop about the dolls. I remember thinking it was pretty cool how my cousins each had a doll that looked like them or was designed to their liking. We would often eat at cafe (that may have been tied into the dolls, I don't remember, I was pretty young) but my cousins and their Mom would talk to the people in the cafe about dolls and I remember thinking even then how popular these dolls must have been. I had never thought about American Girl Doll's outside the US. To my surprise, as you show here, there are brands around the country! That is awesome for people who want to create or have something they can relate too! That is so cool! Terrific work on this video and all your videos. Your genuine personality and love for the subject matter really accelerates the enjoyment I get from a subject I probably would never think about on my own! Haha! You made a bridge with your content and I cross it! You made me think about my childhood and my relation to these dolls, even if I was on the periphery watching my cousins. I'm going to ask them if they still have their dolls as adults today. Great video, very cool channel! Keep up the excellent work!
@AllycatlovesAG
@AllycatlovesAG Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your comment! I haven’t actually eaten at the cafe before because the US store closest to me used theirs as a party-only area. It is tied to the brand as it’s in their stores but I feel like the cafe is more tied to the brand than the dolls themselves.

I grew up in Ireland and became obsessed with American Girl thanks to a lot of AGTubers. My dad was able to get me a doll (I got Marie-Grace), but brand clothing and accessories were an automatic no-go. What I ended up turning to was a UK based 18-inch doll line called Designafriend, though even those were infrequent since the size of Designafriend dolls were significantly skinnier than American Girl dolls so the clothing wouldn't often fit. Younger me was so happy when Our Generation finally made it Irish toy shelves 😂

I know Australia used to have a doll brand called: Florrie dolls! They had a physical store location (and from what I can tell it was Amazing!!!! But has since been dissolved). They looked So Much like AG dolls! I think the company closed a few years ago and then Australia came out with Australian Girl. (I actually wanted a Florrie doll but never got it & now have no desire to get its new ‘replacement brand’.

as a child, i wanted an american girl doll more than anything, but the combo of me being british and their price meant it wasn't possible - i spent a lot of time researching alternatives and my london girl was one of them. i believe they used to be a little more expensive? and i swear i remember the girls having unique meet outfits, but i could be wrong. although i ended up buying a different brand of doll, my london girl were quite a common doll for families who couldn't get ag in the uk to buy. (side note, i FINALLY have a truly me 61 to my name now, AND i'll be visiting the LA store this year - this little british girl's dreams are coming true folks)

great video, i love videos that are educational to collectors. in ireland we had “treasure dolls”, which had like maybe 8 character dolls (contemporary) and a lot of good quality outfits. they did have their own shop but that closed before covid. they also had a section in a kind of high end toy shop near me - but i think their section is gone. there’s also a brand called designa friend which was really big in the 2010s, i think they were in the UK too- lower quality though and slimmer than AG so their outfits didn’t fit. i don’t know where they ended up!

My Twinn dolls were so popular in the 90s/very early '00s! The fact that they could be so customized was their big draw. They were cost-prohibitive, though, even more so than AG dolls if I remember right. ETA that no, they were pretty comparable cost-wise to AG.

I thought AGFAT was American! I think that's because they're so popular! This list was mostly doll lines I could think of off the top of my head, and then I researched each line in depth. Having actually lived through the 90s one thing I noticed was how these girls are not accurate representatives of the late 90s. Their aesthetic is early to mid 90s and their interests are very outdated for their supposed time period. They look great though, just annoying that they are not historically accurate.

I believe the first two you mentioned are American brands and glitter girls, while the parent company is Canadian Is owned by the same company as OG and is well-known already and they are a bit too small. With all of the boycott AG posts for the body book, people are trying to promote the Christian dolls as an alternative but I don’t really like discussing religion on my channel, especially cause I’m an atheist. Thanks for the suggestions though!
