This man is a highly trained classical artist. He is a counter tenor, a male singing in the female register. In the Baroque era the opera world had castratti, who were the star singers. As the practice of castrating boys to develop high singing voices died out in the 19th century, the high male singing was taken over by counter tenors-who developed their falsetto voices. With the growth of interest in Baroque music and authentic performance practices, the counter tenor voice has come into fashion in the last 25 years. There are now a number of famous counter-tenors. This guys voice is beautiful and his phrasing is even more beautiful.
