Hi everyone! I'm an American from the Northeast (New England). I want to create a watering hole for people who want to discuss, learn and teach about history through KZfaq videos which you guys recommend to me through the comment section or over on Discord. Let's be respectful but, just as importantly, not be afraid to question any and everything about historical records in order to give us the most accurate representation of the history of our species and of our planet!

I'd suggest watching a youtube lesson on how to pronounce a lot of this. 10/10 for learning the list, 5/10 for pronounciation

Considering you don’t speak the language I’d say solid effort and good job on all of it, can be difficult getting it 100% right because of the differences the letters have in welsh, my favourite tho has to be how u pronounced Swansea tho kinda reminded me of a cockney

Rhondda Cynon Taf is pronounced: Ron-tha (soft TH) Cun-on Tav. If you pronounce it the old traditional way then you sound the H and roll the R in Rhondda.

My mam is Welsh born in llanfrynach near Brecon, Powys. She never learnt Welsh..her cousin is fluent in it! I wish I'd learnt it...mind you there's still time!🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

So, some pronunciation tips for you (though, if you don't particularly care I'd get it): Blaenau Gwent = Blan-eye Gwent Caerphilly = Kyre (rhymes with fire)-philly (like Philedelphia) Ceredigion = Keh-reh-dig-ee-on Conwy = Con-way or Con-wee (depends on if you're saying it in an English accent or a Welsh one, respectively) Denbighshire = Den-bee-sher Gwynedd = Gwin-eth (the 'th' in 'the' not the 'th' in 'think') Powys = Pow (like the comic sound effect) - iss Rhondda Cynon Taf = Ron-tha (that without the last t) Cun-on Tahv Torfaen = Tor-vine The rest were pretty much spot on

Good job mate. When I was in school Wales only had a handful of counties so it was a lot easier. Dyfed, Clwyd, Gwynedd, Glamorgan (Mid, West, South), Gwent (Monmouthshire)

Don’t worry Connor, I’m Welsh and all those little council areas down in the southeast confuse me too! We’re on the third set of counties/council areas in my lifetime, and if you were to ask me the counties before 1974, or 1974-1998 I’d get 100% every time!

There are well known areas that English people would likely know but where they were in Wales is doubtful so knowing where they are puts you in a small group outside Wales.

I’d say it does going into long term memory when I enjoy learning things like this. After I do a few more countries I’ll try and do all of them over again one after the other to see if I can remember 😂

Oh dear, you’ve done it now. Good attempt at the pronunciations but the Welsh will arise as one now and correct the pronunciations. I’m only 1/4 Welsh so won’t presume to correct all but Gla-mor-gan has the emphasis on ‘mor’ rather than ‘gan’. Merthyr Tydfil is Mur thuh Tid vil, with the emphasis on the ‘Mur’. Denbighshire doesn’t have the ‘g’ pronounced. So it’s “Denby-shuh”. Ceredigion is “Kerr-a-dig-ee-on”, just to be awkward with emphasis on the “Kerr” and the “dig”. Anglesey is “Angle-sea”.

I think the easiest way to pronounce Glamorgan is to split it into two words, Glam Organ.

Da Iawn, my husband has lived in Wales for 8 years & with one exception your pronounciation is better than his. He can only manage Rhondda Cynon Taf because it's where we live. Pob lwc gyda eich siannel - Good luck with your channel.
