@@philjones45 Yes but you need to know that the purple is Cadbury's brand colour, that it's about chocolate about the same sort of colour as the gorilla, that the drum burst is supposed to mimic the explosion of taste. Only when you've seen it, read up on it and watched it a few times could you pick up the clues, and I gather Cadbury's didn't even put their logo on the end at first.

The possibility of seeing this ad on the TV, back in 2007, kept us in our seats, instead of dashing out to the kitchen during the break to make a cup of tea, or cut a sandwich or two. It never grew old, had nothing to do with Cadbury's chocolate, but the ad did its work very well. Years later and I watch it with you today TWICE and it still had my undivided attention each time. Now that's a campaign triumph in my view.

It is the colour of the background which makes it identifiable by most Brits as a Cadbury advert rather than what is in it. They have used that colour for over a century. It is Pantone 2685C otherwise known as Cadbury Purple, and is trademarked. Interestingly, when I used to travel by train from where I used to live I passed through Bournville railway station which is for the Cadbury Factory. It was painted Cadbury Purple.

@@paulbromley6687 It used to, till US firm Kraft, bought it and moved most of the production out of the UK and then had the cheek to change the recipes, (which they promised they would not do, in the sale negotiations). The outcome of a US takeover meant the quality and flavour of many Cadbury products fell and were/are avoided by many Brits, to this day. Cadbury is still better than US chocolate, especially Hershey but is rated much lower in the UK than it used to be.

This is a great advert and I remember it well when it first aired on television. I too don’t understand the relevance of using a Gorilla playing the drums, but you can feel the energy the moment Phil Collins legendary music is played. The sad part is, Phil Collins can no longer play the drums in concert because of arthritis in his hands, and being much older now. How cruel life can be to be young but wake up one day and realise you are old. The mirror can be so unkind when it shows your ageing on the outside, while on the inside you still feel young, trapped in an old man’s body. Nobody can escape ageing, unless we die young from reckless behaviours or from fate. But the state of our minds determine how we come to terms with the reality of growing old, and how others see us and how we see ourselves. Connor, I’m happy to see your subs have increased to 67K. You’ve been hovering around 63K-65K for sometime, but hopefully you are on your way to reaching your next milestone, to reach 70K. Good luck! Perhaps, you might consider doing video blogs about your life because it adds another dimension to your channel and will help increase your subscribers. 🍀

The line "I've been waiting".. this advert was after all Cadbury products were pulled from the shelves after a salmonella outbreak. It was their big comeback to shelves after months without Cadbury. There was leaky pipe at factory which caused a build up muck and old chocolate and ingredients which fed the chocolate. This advert was letting everyone know Cadbury was back

The gorilla in the add is Phil Collins in a suit, the song itself has a very very dark black origin, relating to a time in his childhood when he was camping with a group of other boys, don't know if it was a school or boy scout field trip, but story briefly, His was with this group of boys one night and they told him they were going to drown a fat boy they hated and wanted his help ge refuse, but saw what they did, years later he wrote this song about the incident, went to the police swa out a staement, then arranged for the guilty group to attened his consert, arranged their seating, each one was seated between two policemen, the signal was when he sang this song at the end the cops would arrest the guilty group, when you play the song listen to the words carefully its a true event and very chilling

There’s a significant story behind this advertisement … In 2006, Cadbury, the UK’s premier chocolate brand was in trouble .. sales, and perhaps more importantly, their reputation, had taken a massive hit due to a salmonella incident, traces of nuts found in easter eggs and product recalls .. they were approached by an advertising agency who proposed a radical rethink of their marketing campaigns using what at the time was a new idea called ‘viral marketing’ … this was all before the social media boom … before the advert first ran on British TV there were reports of people dressed as gorillas randomly playing drums on major road junctions .. no explanations or anything were given but it got people talking. There was much rumour that it was actually Phil Collins in the gorilla suit playing the drums, and this wasn’t discounted for quite some time. Amusingly, ‘Gorilla’ became such a hit that underwear manufacturer Wonderbra made a spoof commercial of it as well

I know its minor, but what I find amazing on this ad, is the small real moves. One of which, to watch for, is the head tilt and small snort at a camera who is getting too close.
