It's a tragedy that most people in the west know nothing of the historical achievements of the Islamic world. Many people think of the region as backward culturally and scientifically. When I was doing my university studies, the earliest western studies in my specialist area (visual perception) were 200 years old - yet Muslim scholars like Hasan Ibn Al-Haytham (Alhazen) were doing groundbreaking work in the field a 800 years earlier.

It's no wonder is it? When they shunned their enlightened scholars, rejected the renaissance and continue to this day, in bronze age madness, death to heretics and burning sorcerers..... utterly ludicrous! I'm afraid the magnificent achievements of the early Islamic period will soon be lamented as a 'Let's go and see what we could have been...'

@@rnw2739 "they shunned their enlightened scholars" WHEN DID MUSLIM DO THAT? The declines of the Islamic golden age has nothing to do with anyone being shunned. The decline is coincide precisely at the times when the west started to became more militarily powerful and the crusades. The crusaded are the major factor why Islamic kingdom, kings and queen, bit by bit became less interested in funding library and scientific scholarly works because their borders and kingdom at that time were being battered almost every 10 years by crusaders and their allies. 8 crusades! And after that THE MONGOLS kill more than half the population of the Muslim world and destroyed half of the cities in the middle east. The Renaissance in the west able to be because the mongol never get to western Europe. Not to mention the black death kill more people in the middle east then in Europe. When Sultans and Kings start caring more about funding forts, castle, military equipment and army to defend their land from foreign barbarian invaders like the Franks, Mongols, and Turkic tribes, they stop funding scholarly works and library. It has nothing to do with Muslim shunning anything.

13:13 Abd al-Rahman's story is fucking amazing, seriously. Dude had his entire family killed in a real-life Game of Thrones red wedding and barely escaped. Then had to take a *long* journey from Syria, all the way to Spain, while constantly being stalked and harassed by assassins. Along the way his brother was killed, and he spent a long time keeping a low profile in the Sahara desert with Bedouin clans. Eventually he went to Spain, fought a civil war there to take power, and ruled as Emir over Spain over 30 years. I think Flashpoint History made a video about this guy, but seriously, this guy needs a movie about him. It screams historical epic/action movie. Such an incredible story, reads straight out of a movie.

One legendary story that is told of Abd al-Rahman's youth is one where he was a kid in the court of his uncle the Caliph Hisham, after being shunned by the Caliph and being told to leave court, the Caliph's brother who was said to have the ability to see the destiny of people told the caliph " Let him stay, he is the lord of the house of Umayya, their refuge in the time of decline of their power, and restorer of their realm. Regarding your question about the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), yes he did have kids, but all of them died during his lifetime a natural death except one daughter named Fatima (may Allah be pleased with her). She died after her father’s death six months later a natural death as well. But Fatima had children from her husband Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). Ali is the cousin of the Prophet. Hope that help 👍

Unfortunately the whole story of events around Mohamed is an invented load of lies as detailed investigation will prove to anyone with an open mind will discover. Beyond that they will discover that there was never any holy scripture passed to him, however texts began to arrive after 20 years of his death. From then onwards further versions of the Qran have been presented until the 17th C. Currently there are at least 26 versions of the official approved doctrine to choose from. I invite you to open your mind to learn the truth. The man, the book and the place have all been disproved, as can be clearly demonstrated by learning from Dr. Jay Slater

Muhammad (PBUH) had 7 children. 3 sons and 4 daughters. All his sons died in infancy. His daughters lived to adulthood but three would die in the prophet's lifetime. The eldest was Zainab. She would die from issues from a previously induced miscarriage caused by the enemies of the prophet. Zainab had a daughter that survived named Umayma who was the eldest grandchild of the prophet. He loved her a lot. She would later go on to marry Ali (the same one who was previously married to her aunt Fatimah) and have two sons with him. However, one would die in battle and the other from natural causes. The second daughter of the prophet was Ruqayyah. She had been married to Uthman Ibn Affan (the third Caliph of Islam who was murdered. Though he became Caliph after Ruqayyah's death). Ruqayyah died from illness on the very same day the Muslims won the Battle of Badr (you've reacted to this battle before). The happy news of the victory was dampened by Ruqayyah's death. Ruqayyah and Uthman had a son together named Abdullah but he died as a child after a rooster pecked his eye. The third daughter was Umm Kulthum. She would marry Uthman after her sister, Ruqayyah's, death. However, she would die soon after too from illness. The fourth and youngest daughter of the prophet was Fatimah. She was married to Ali and had 5 children with him (4 of whom would reach adulthood). The two oldest are the famous Hasan and Husayn. Fatimah was the only child of the prophet to outlive him and not die in his lifetime. However, that didn't last long because she would die six months after the prophet died. On her deathbed, she requested to her husband Ali to marry her niece, Umayma (daughter of her eldest sister, Zainab). Umayma was a grown woman at this point and really loved Fatimah's children as a second mother so Fatimah wanted her to marry Ali which he did. The founder of the Ummayad Caliphate would ask for Umayma's hand in marriage to consolidate his rule over the caliphate after Ali's death (as she was the eldest female descendent of the prophet) but Umayma would reject him.

The battle of the Talas river is one of the most important battles in human history. I heard it once from a chinese medical colleague of mine who himself is a Muslim. He narrated from his forefathers about the battle and how the Turks, during the battle were so amazed by the prayers of the muslims during the battles (as well as other things) that lasted for days, and according to him in the 5th day they swore allegiance to the Muslims and switched sides, and thus broke 1000 year old enslavement by the Chinese changing the outcome of the battle

How did he go to Spain? EASY, all north Africa at that time was a Muslim land so he just ride his horse and caravans through out the way to Morocco and built his based there and when the Visigoths Nobles of Spain swear allegiance to him to help took power from the Visigoth King of Spain he went there with and army and easily defeated the Visigoth because at that time the Visigoth are still very primitive and not a match to the Arab armies. I think you should watch the series about IBN BATUTTAH to see how connected the Muslim world is in the middle ages and how did he travel from Morocco to Spain, to Mecca, to Persia, to Eastern Europe, to India, to Indonesia, to Malaysia and to China and then back again to Morocco. IT WAS AMAZING. You think people only travel around the world today with planes and cars, but 1000 years ago people already travel all over the world by donkeys, horses , camel and ships. xD.

Also spain was under Muslim control on and off during the Ummayd times, so that explains how he could get a foothold there.

The Prophet Muhammad did have children,7 in total , however all of his sons, Abd Allah, Qasim and Ibrahim, passed away in their childhood. His daughters, Fatima , Ruqayyah, Umm Kulthum and Zaynab all reached adulthood but still passed away young, except for Fatima. During his death, The Prophet Muhammad only one offspring alive, his daughter Fatima, who married his nephew Ali and it is from this couple that the Prophet's lineage was preserved. People who are descendants of the Prophet generally have the titles 'Syed' or 'Sharif'. Well , not to mention, the Prophet did adopt a slave-boy names Zayd as his son, who later became a pretty influential figure in Islam and was one of the first muslims

5:07 Extra tax? Everyone has to pay tax. Everywhere. Only adult men (not older men) that could afford to, payed this tax. And it was not high. In turn they had protection and were not enlisted in any wars. On the other hand ALL Muslims, men, women, old and young payed tax.
@EternalVirgin
@EternalVirgin 9 ай бұрын
That's true, the concept of jizyah was supposed to exempt non-Muslims from being levied by paying a tax as a symbol of their willingness to contribute to the Muslim cause. However we should also remember that the Umayyads were oftentimes very reliant on these taxes (a significant population of non-Muslims paying taxes = lots of money, go figure) to fill their coffers, and many government officials who are part of the Umayyad clan or related to them often used their positions to skim off the taxes. It even got so bad at one point that they forbid any non-Muslims from converting to Islam just so they could keep paying jizyah. 'Umar ibn Abdul-'Aziz, one of (if not the only) Umayyad Caliph to be remembered as a virtuous person, later tried during his rule to abolish this so the non-Muslims who cannot afford to pay jizyah for one reason or another could convert to Islam. But he was assassinated by his family members for that.

"The Persians ruled for a thousand years and did not need us Arabs even for a day. We have been ruling them for one or two centuries and cannot do without them for an hour." ~ *Abbasid Caliph Al-Ma'mun* (813-833 CE). Persians had a great influence on their conquerors. The caliphs adopted many Sassanid administrative practices, such as coinage, the office of vizier, or minister, and the divan, a bureaucracy for collecting taxes and giving state stipends. Indeed, Persians themselves largely became the administrators. It is well established that the Abbasid caliphs modeled their administration on that of the Sassanids. The caliphs adopted Sassanid court dress and ceremony. In terms of architecture Islamic architecture borrowed heavily from Persian architecture. The Sassanid architecture had a profound influence over Islamic architecture.

As a student of history for the last 20 years, the only thing that is clear to me is that history cannot be considered the truth, varying in every telling, sometimes drastically. Every culture views history differently, records it differently, and amongst many scholars, you will find as many versions as there are writers to write it.

Dhimmis, including Christians and Jews, paid Jizya to demonstrate their submission to the Islamic state. In return, they received protection, religious freedom, and the ability to maintain their institutions. The tax amount varied based on wealth, and certain groups had exemptions. Jizya acknowledged the political authority of Muslim rulers while granting rights and freedoms to religious minorities. Not to mention Muslim has to pay Zakat. Zakat is typically calculated based on specific assets such as cash, gold, silver, and business investments. The standard Zakat rate is 2.5% of one's eligible wealth, although different rates may apply to different types of assets.
