I've noticed in the USA over many visits that some people seem to see wealth as an indicator that you deserve to be almost worshipped as a demi-god. Aussies are not impressed by flaunting wealth or power, but we're impressed by people who are "down to earth" and humble. If you're rich or powerful good on you, but we don't need to hear about it. Ordinary Aussies have famously called Prime Ministers "mate" when they like them, and "d**khead" when they don't, straight to their faces and in front of TV cameras.

"How's it going" seems to be an issue with so many people even for westerners. It's just the same as 'how do you do', 'whats goin on', 'what's up' etc

In South Oz we flash to let people into traffic as well, in the bush we right indicate to let someone pass, Truckies will always do this to let you know it’s safe..

I think if I lived in America and heard the way some people talk to serving staff, I would seriously have to smack them. Some people are so rude it’s unbelievable! They are there to serve you they are not your servants!

Can I please add that the word aussie can be an insult in some places. The word we use is OZZIE, it comes from the slang pronunciation of the word australia coming out as OZtralia, this is why we are sometimes called the land of OZ and why we are called OZZIE'S. The word aussie was made up by some foreign twat who had no idea what they were talking about

Also here in Australia we have tall poppy syndrome (poppy is a plant) and if you think your gonna be the tallest and best over others we will cut you down quick so we are the same. We don't like people thinking they are better than others

At 63 my usual reply to "how you doing,?" Is "Ah have been better, have been worse, can't complain.!

On the speeding topic, while it does happen and there are fines if you get caught. The governments and local councils invest heavily in fixed-point speed cameras, mobile speed cameras and average speed cameras. They're all over the place. On my short 20-minute drive to work, I pass two fix-point speed cameras and commonly a mobile speed camera. In the cities areas, we are starting to see mobile phone detection cameras as well.

No speeding in Australia...20 years ago I did 71 on a 60 road...it was a $485 fine.

The thing about the way we say: "Howzitgoon" is that we say it as one word.. Makes it even harder for non Ozzies to understand.

In NSW we flash our lights to let someone drive in a situation where it's confusing, or where you have right of way but are being generous and allowing them to go first.

Treating people equally is why we have a huge tall poppy syndrome thing here. Noone cares how much u make, noone likes people who brag, we all work hard and we all receive in various ways and if try to big note urself, u will be pulled back down.
