I worry that these days comedy is becoming too safe and boring for fear of offending people. I am gay and find this sketch hilarious. Its a joke after all and not meant to be taken seriously. I'm bi and not offended at all by this video and if anything, people need to lighten up. Joel is only reacting and he has never come across as a homophobe to me. I love Catherine Tate but didn't get the humour in this particular sketch.

I love Catherine Tate, but I loathe this character; purely because of how abrasive she is. I'm also gay, but am not offended in the slightest by this sort of humour. For me, I guess it depends on the actual views the actor/comedian holds. If they are genuinely homophobic in real life, I would probably take issue with it. You also have to think about the influence a particular sketch will have on the average viewer. Is it going to translate into increased homophobia/hate crimes? If the answer is no (which is obviously the case here), then I have no problem with it. One half of the Little Britain duo is gay, and their portrayals of LGBTQ+ people are far more extreme. Personally, I think they are probably the greatest and most versatile comedians I have ever seen.
