Some years ago there was a case in the US where a police officer not on duty deescalated a situation with a armed man by talking with him and calm im down almost to point to give up. Then the police arrived and barge in screaming like a drill sergant. The officer who deescalated the situation lost his job because of this.

That's why I don't see why in that list German Police are worser American Police. To me that list looks very noncredible and not even an explaining what criteria were used for that ranking. Education? Psychic training? Deescalation skills? Kill-Ratio? By the way, american education to police officer are very short in relation to ours.

Been to England and Scotland alot. But even when I go to a match in London, my idiot friend (not sober) walked up to a riding police and .. here it is.. ASKED!!! to be taken a picture.. Sure no problem. I think wherever you are in the world, if you are polite 99.99999% of the police will treat you accordingly. They might say NO! But thats it.. they dont want to make more work.

@@Hey.Joe. I've lived in Germany as a Brit for some years now. And from my personal observations, I would regard the German police as good. Better than the French who may be professionally good, but tend to get out of control and are generally not friendly at all. The Bundespolizei on the other hand are usually helpful, and not heavy-handed, or "macho" as their American colleagues seem to be.

In the Netherlands, I've been chased ( they were looking for a guy with a red hoodie and I was mistaken for this person ) by police on roller skates.

I think training makes a *big* difference too, apparently in some parts of the US you can become an armed police officer with just two weeks total training! That training includes both general policing and fire arms training. Whereas in the UK you have to have been a qualified officer for years before you'll even be considered for fire arms training. The UK training also has an emphasis on de-esculation and I believe that officers need permission to shoot.

The armed teams you reference are referred to as "ARV". Mobile units that actively patrol in marked and unmarked cars, ready to be deployed to a serious violence incident or firearms incident on a moment's notice.

I'm afraid there seems to be too much "trigger-happiness". And when someone makes a "wrong" position by having a cellphone in his hand...he's likely to have 12 bullets in him. 6 from each officer. It's sad but I feel safer in many 3rd world country than I do visiting the US. I've been to Vietnam, Russia, Serbia, Peru and other such countries and I've felt safer there. I recently read that UK kids before going on a trip to the US are given a pamphlet with things to do and not to do when they're there. And I don't think it wasn't only advising them not to jaywalk.

@@SatieSatie I have lived for months in France, both in the South and in Paris and I really cannot remember coming across fat policemen on the street. Perhaps there were some of course but I can only speak for my personal experience so perhaps not as common. I did notice the police very much as being a Brit I am not used to seeing police walking along the streets with guns so they stood out to me. I have to be honest I never quite got used to that although over time it got less scary.

Well when half the population is obese, police apartments are defunded, officers having to think 20 times if shooting someone who is pointing a gun at you is alright or can get you behind bars due to the color of the criminals skin, while constantly risking your life on a regular traffic stop due to every child carrying a gun, id guess it is hard enough to find anyone, willing to apply as things currently are. If you then alter the requirements to, lets say a european standard, with year-long education, training and fittness tests, good luck finding a single new police officer lol.

I had a similar encounter probably in about the 80s . I was pulled over in my car on a routine traffic stop so nothing to worry about and the officer asked me what I had in my boot (trunk for you Americans) So I told him I have two shotguns a Lee Enfield .303 and a .177 target air pistol . He told me to stop taking the piss and to show him , so I did and on seeing my collection he first said “do you have a license for these” to which I replied yes . He then said you really shouldn’t be carrying these about to which I replied I’ve just come from a gun club and the shooting range I can’t exactly walk with them . He then said oh okay off you go ; he never did ask to see my licenses .

But don't you have a police force whose task it is to control the regular police? I thought I heard of something like that and think that is awesome. So there is a chance that the police officers are brought to court... Here in German, we also have problems... The story of Oury Jalloh sounds like thing happend between 1933 and 1945... But it was in 2005. It is probably a common problem because of the people that are attracted to policework. Sure, most of them want to help people but some just want to have power over others... and police is the best place to have that.

Maybe you should add, that, in the case you are refering to, the prosecution didnt even raise charges, since they were provided video and photoevidence of the incidents and all use of force was deemed within reason. On top of that, Sydøstjyllands Politikreds denied the familys story completely and stated, that the events were portraied incorrectly. And regarding tæskeholdende: There was an investigation launched by the police itself, as well as an investigation by DUP (Den uafhængige politiklagemyndighed, which is an independent internal investigation unit if LEOs are involved). Not stating that everything the police here does is right, but two incidents of supposed misuse of force by police is really no big deal and unpreventable in every occupation...

Vejle has obviously changed a lot from when I first went there in the early1980s ( my wife is Danish) and came from Hygum a few miles from Vejle. Can't ever remember seeing Police there as it was such a nice peacful place. Last time in Vejle was about ten years ago, then all we saw was groups of ......how shall we say! In Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, police officers brutally assaulted and burned an asylum seeker alive for being drunk; different judges ruled his death an "accident" multiple times over the years, despite crystal-clear evidence pointing otherwise. The perpetrators (incl. a doctor) never had to face real consequences. Look up Oury Jalloh, there are several documentaries about his murder. The same police station is responsible for other "mysterious" fatalities that were never investigated. Also the stepson of one of the police officers r*aped and beat a Chinese architecture student to death... and everyone helped covering it up. There are black sheep within the police force everywhere, but it's especially disturbing when it concerns internationally well-respected countries with a seemingly excellent judicial system.

We're the RUC armed prior to the troubles kicking off in the late 60's ? Let's not forget they were basically a protestant police force for a protestant people and were hostile to the nationalist community. Fortunately things are a little better nowadays even though the PSNI are still armed.

In the first place, police only do what the governments tell them, and thus can become a political pawn, and that applies to all countries. Secondly, while the RUC were indeed mainly Protestant, it was purely for the simple reason that Catholics were intimidated by the Nationalist/Republican leaders who warned them not to join or else!! The message was clear, and that's the way it has always been. In my job I had to meet police all over the UK, and I've met and talked with literally thousands. I met many Catholic officers in the RUC - fine men who had served up to ten and fifteen years alongside their Protestant colleagues with never a problem. In a riot situation, it doesn't matter whether the brick that hits you is thrown by a Protestant or Catholic, a Unionist or a Nationalist; it's a situation that police all over the world have to deal with regardless of political or other motivation. I've listened to Catholic and Protestant officers discuss the many situations in NI, and the usual consensus is that they are there to do the government's bidding, whether they liked it or not. In every instance I found decent men trying under very difficult circumstances to do the job they were paid to do. I've met Catholic officers who where not just threatened by local people, but had their familes boycotted and ostracised, just because they chose to become police officers. When you not only allow, but encourage youn children to stand in front of their parents and throw petrol bombs at police, it says a lot about the parents, and yet you applaud this kind of behaviour and put the blame on the police. At the end of the day, if you create and provoke a violent situation, you're going to get a violent response and blame everyone else except yourself for the outcome.

I live in the state of Victoria in Australia and all police carry guns. I never saw anything in the news where the press commented on it when, overnight almost, they all had pistols on their hips. Why? I'd much rather it be like Britain here.

They are not labeled police, because they are not police. They cannot even arrest you. They can at most detain someone until the cops arrive.

In my country (9 million people) weapons are used in average (over the last 10 years) about 12 times a year by the police (not drawn, but actually fired). They are only allowed to use weapons as a last resort. So the basically don't use weapons.

Kellie, those French Police, all 5 of them, may not have been as ready to assist you for any reason other than you're quite attractive. Sorry, not meaning to sound creepy. I was on a bus in Spain going into France and once we got over the border the French police boarded the bus to make sure there were no evil terrorists aboard the bus. Three French police took it in turn walking down to the back of the bus and out again. I commented to a French woman next to me that it seemed odd that they didn't trust the Spanish police to check us out. She said "Le flics veut juste regarder nos seins." (The police just want to look at our tits.) It was a very hot day.

@@SuperHawk0413 if you actually read the article, the farmers were attacking the police. The police shot some warning bullets and not actually at farmers. The farmers were successfully discouraged from trying again and no one got hurt. Farmers actively attacking police are not peaceful protesters.

The US police are probably the most aggressive because fire arm possesion is so high , they then have to become super aggressive but they do overdo it lots of times I think !

Yeah that top10 is worthless; you don't know what's ranked. French police forces in general is divided in two, with the Gendarmerie (military status) on one side and the Police Nationale (civilian) on the other side, with both having different roles. And the picture used was of a CRS, which used to be a PRIVATE police force that was incorporated in the French Police and is used for peacekeeping in riots; not regular policing activities. It's all over the place.

the only metric they could use to rank that might look like this imo is by efficiency , like how much crime is solved and how much it cost's. like i see rich and low crime counties that probably have a tiny police force and places like the usa with a huge force and lots of crime but the police have other income sources other then tax payers ( seizures and speeding tickets etc). would explain why canada is so high aswell relatively low crime but police drive around giving fines all day.

@@Jack-lk7wk we were still a safe country, now you might be thinking of Casal Ventoso with it's pictures of thousands of people in one street buying and selling drugs, nowadays it's not like that anymore since Portugal won the war on drugs by allowing small portions for person so there's no risk of selling it, outside of that street it was still safe, my father lived there he says people held each other accountable if there was problems, so I don't know how much that's worth in your opinion. The truth is outside of it people can go out alone on the streets with no issues, go to a bank make large withdrawls with small to no risk, etc... Since the start of the GPI in 2007 we've always been in the top 10
