One thing is sure, Ronaldo does put up an extra mile when he is under criticism or adversity. But most of these circumstances are over exaggerated. For example, Zlatan never disrespected Ronaldo, he just said he thinks Messi is a better player and more natural. Doesn't mean he disrespected Ronaldo because of that and he needs to be taught a lesson. A similar situation happened happened for Messi, where it wasn't just one player or manager but an entire nation was against him and criticizing him for losing in a particular final. Even his own country men was disrespecting him, and at that point Argentina was about to be eliminated from qualifying for the 2018 World cup in their last ever qualifying match if they don't win. And Messi scores a similar hattrick to save his country just like Ronaldo. But this time Messi did it against his own fans and country men who were doubting him and made everyone fall in love with him once again.

Here's a spicy take from someone who's watch both Messi and Ronaldo constantly in his life; Ronaldo last 6 years is most of the time good only in his seasonal highlights. Most of the games he loses a lot of balls, does a few meaningless tricks and flicks that don't contribute to anything and then scores a sitter my grandma would score. He scored some insane goals, but after you take 500 shots in one game, one is bound to go in. And you can make any striker look like the best player ever in that way. Look at Suarez or Ibrahimovic and their like top 30 goals, all of them are absolute bangers, but that doesn't mean that they're better than someone like for example Messi. If you look at actual matches, you will come to find out that Ronaldo does mostly nothing but lose balls, fail to dribble and then scores. Now that's not to say that it's not impressive that he can find himself in those position. He's definitely the best striker ever when you look at total goals scored. But the reason why Messi is way and beyond above him is because Messi scored a bit less goals (more in Europe though) but has a better goal ratio and is better in literally everything else by A LOT. And no, Ronaldo's shots from far away aren't good. As I said, when you take a shit ton of random shots (because you lack skill in other things and don't have options other than a random shot), it doesn't mean that you're some insane long shot takes. I mean Messi literally has more goals outside the box lol. The comparison between Ronaldo and Messi should have never existed, it's a media product as Ronaldo's manager is the most popular manager in the world and Messi's manager is his dad. Messi has always been a better football player and I'll gladly debate anyone who doesn't think so.

I saw the ball.levitate but I didn't see him touch it. Almost like his foot placement hit w such power the ground displaced and lifted the ball slightly. Not even sure it obeys the laws of physics

If he had lifted the ball himself the penalty wouldn't have been valid and had to be retaken, so it's more like he planted the foot so strongly in the ground that the grass lifted the ball, and he actually had to adjust his technique mid-penalty, which is even more impressive

I have been watching football for a long while (since about 1982 or so). I remember some of the great ones like Maradona, Franz Beckenbauer, Zinadine Zadane, Paolo Rossi, Zico, Ronaldo Nazário. These were great players in a different generation of this sport. All of these guys excelled a lot, but the talent level is not as high as the the current crop that Messi and Ronaldo play in. These two current players are definetely a goat, co-goats, or somewhere in between.

If you want to more of Ronaldo shutting down, on the pitch, critics and people bath mouthing him...just look up CR7 vs Atletico Madrid....Atletico Madrid fans and players still have nightmare about him, the best one of the lot is probably the UCL one, when he was playing them in the Champions League....i am not gonna spoil it, but the drama (again, on the pitch) was pretty cool between the 2 legs of the tie.

Ronaldo is a physical beast. The ultimate athlete. And I'm saying this as a Messi fan. For me, the difference between the two is that Ronaldo's stats are measurable. If you want to code him on a videogame you can measure his abilities on a scale from 1-99, and he is much better than Messi in that regard. But Messi magic cannot be coded or measured. The things he does with the ball are simply jaw-dropping, while Ronaldo amazes you with his physicallity, jump height, and shooting power... that is why Messi is still being so decisive at this age and Ronaldo has fallen flat a little bit (Don't @ me, I'm Argentinian and completely biased)

The goat debate started because they were at the start of their carriers at the same time. But I'm going to say 2 things, first Cristiano Ronaldo is not even the best Ronaldo and second, Cristiano is only been compared with Messi, while Messi is compared to Maradona, Cruyff, Pele, all the goats before.Cristiano Ronaldo is a physical machine, is an extremely hard worker and a great athlete and player. Fanatical Ronaldo fans claim this as drug cheating? 🤷‍♂️ You see this with Haaland the current flavour of the month big, fast and a great striker because of those physical attributes. Some are claiming him as the greatest striker of all time at 22 ? Football fans aren't always rational? This is the sort of lunacy you find on virtually every post about them. I think the actual truth is. Ronaldo fans KNOW Messi is the far superior player HOW he plays and all the statistics prove this beyond doubt. They just deny reality about it though. I find that many more Ronaldo fanatics appear on Messi posts trying to denigrate him, than you find the other way round. In general, Messi fans are happy to say Ronaldo is a great striker. They just don't think he is in the conversation about who is actually the best player of all time. There are many in front of him. Ronaldo fans latch on to amount of goals which is misleading. Messi is actually better in that department. 🤷‍♂️
