@@PpalinozzAs an American who enjoys football, I don’t really get it either, but this confusion can definitely be attributed to our focus on our own sports. American football, baseball, and basketball, while they are played internationally sometimes, are mostly played within the United States, with some exceptions. We focus on our own leagues, which only one main one usually exists for each major sport. This is why many reaction channels that react to football ask, “how long have they been in the league?”. We only focus on these leagues, since for most of “our” sports we do not have that much active competition to frequently play with. Not every American is this unknowledgeable about the concept of international teams.

Messi played his club football for Barcelona for most of his life. But as an Argentinian, when it's time for countries to play each other, he plays for the Argentinian National team. It's the same in basketball whereby US players could play for any team around the world, including any NBA team if they are good enough, but at the Olympics, they play for team USA.

Bro how are you still confused by the fact he plays for Argentina and Barcelona? One is his club and the other is his country, for example, an American basketball player could play for a club outside of his country but he would still play for the USA national team in international matches, that's how you play for both, your club side can have nothing to do with your nationality.

Argentina is a COUNTRY and he is playing for his nation's team because he is Argentine... On the other hand, there are the clubs, which are like basketball teams, each city has its team (or several teams) and there they can be players of any nationality...

You can play for any club in the world. But playing for.a national team works like this: When Messi started playing and everybody saw his potential (specially Spain since he was playing for Barcelona) they wanted to recruit him. Of course he played for Argentina since he is argentine, but also because football is a tradition in Argentina. The thing is once a player plays an official FIFA match with a jersey from a particular country, they CAN NOT play for another national team ever! When Argentina found out that Spain wanted Messi to play for them, even thou he didn't want it, argentina set up a friendly official match with another country and put Messi on the field, that way he will always play for my country ARGENTINA.

Remember that Messi's position is the point guard of his team. So besides being the best scorer ever, he is also one of the best passers ever, being one of the leaders in assists of all time. Combine the two, and there's no question anymore that he's the greatest ever, especially since after this video was made, he led Argentina to the Copa America and most importantly, the World Cup. So he's literally won everything that can be won and can now retire with no regrets regarding his legacy. Were he born in some of the biggest football countries (in terms of population), he would have won many world cups. He could have been naturalized as a Spanish citizen and won more world cups that way, but he stayed true to Argentina, hence why he's treated like a God there, along with his own idol, Diego Maradona.

Players play for their football clubs and their country, they aren't transferring, you feel me? Messi is actually quite humble, or so they say. World Cup is every 4 years, unless there is something that will cause it to stop, you feel me? MSN; Messi, Suarez, Neymar...There will be no attacking trio like them ever again...
