As a resident of Glasgow, I can confirm this is as close to historical accuracy as you can get. Scotland and Australia is the only places you'll visit where the word "c*nt" is a term of endearment.

For a non-Scot, you’re following the dialogue (complicated by accent/dialect) very, very well. Just remember that this is the pilot episode, designed to introduce you to the characters. It’s funny in places but not as funny as it gets in future episodes/series. Stick with it, it gets hugely funnier. Also, never forget that there is *always* an epilogue, a short finisher clip after the final credits.

As a 28 year old Glaswegian, I grew up watching this show (and another sketch they did called Chewin' The Fat) and it's easily one of my favourite ever series. I know it's television, but this is honestly a very accurate representation of Glasgow 20 years ago and even still to this day in parts. Absolutely love it, and look forward to more reactions on this show! You'll find that with Glaswegians, banter is very common and can sometimes be self-depreciating, but generally not meant with malice. It's just the way the city is! There's most definitely people in the show that are very similar to people we know in real life.

Chewing the fat is boss, they should re-air that and probably will. My ma's a jock and most of my extended family and it took me a few episodes to get ma heed round it. This and only fools made me laugh more than anything else I've ever seen come from the UK

i always loved the Scottish for their forthright manner , if they are verbally abusing you, you know they like you ,other wise they just wouldn't bother with you , the same with the Geordies ,and proper Eastenders . the fact that they feel comfortable in your company is the key , not ones for mincing their words mean if leg pulls and back handed comments go down well with you and you can give as good as you get your all right with them .

Aye Beard, you’ve hit the proverbial jackpot there for Scottish comedy, that is pritty much what Scotland is like most of the time, even in the smaller rural villages that’s how people speak to each other, I was brought up in one of these small farming communities in Aberdeenshire, Scotland it doesn’t really matter where you go in Scotland the temperament & nature of the people here is nearly exactly as you see in Still Game Hope you enjoyed it as much as I have, Great Video Dude 👍😎

I am so glad you have decided to have a look at this series ! It is without doubt, the best comedy series to come out of Scotland. There are eight series and it just keeps getting better and better. Filmed in Glasgow with a lot of local actors, so yes, the accent might be a bit heavy but you'll catch on ! There is another sketch show with the same people called " Chewing the fat " - it's excellent as well - very funny !

Still Game ranks, alongside Only Fools.....as one of the greatest sitcoms the UK has ever produced, it is funny, but also touching. It gets funnier, then, at the very end, incredibly touching, infact, the very end is only overtaken by Blackadder 4 as the most touching ending to a sitcom in the UK. Make sure you watch every bit, including after the credits.....

It's one of the most iconic shows to come out of Scotland for a long time for good reason - all of the characters, while extreme to a degree - are all very relatable, and everyone knows at least a couple of people who are very much like each of the main cast (and supporting characters), whether it's the "grumpy auld men", the local scrounger who won't pay a penny if he doesn't have to, the town gossip, the bar staff who likely get a LOT of banter aimed at them, and of course the local corner shop owner from abroad who has their own outlook on the area.

ONE of my favourate comedies was Shelly , 1979 - 92 James Shelley is highly educated and has a PhD in geography; he's bright, will philosophise for hours, and can turn his mind to almost anything. He is also unemployed and has no intention of working. Living with his girlfriend Fran in a bedsit at the home of Mrs Hawkins (known as Mrs. H), the series follows his misadventures as he ducks, dodges and tries as hard as possible not to be caught up in Thatcher's Britain - or at very least, just to continue to avoid working. the other characters are very strong i esp like Shelly's mum who grows her own dope she is hilarious , and shellys long suffering land lady Mrs H . if you can find a few episodes to watch , i think your like it .

back when this show started it was like finding an amalgamation of my 2 favourite comedy shows as a kid, Rab C Nesbitt and Last of the Summer Wine, and it now sits on my DVD rack along with other 2 and their other show Chewing the Fat that this was originally one of the reoccurring sketches before becoming a show on its own. I can honestly say I don't recall a bad episode from the very start to the finish. Got myself int he mood to watch all 4 shows now :D

What you're watching is grumpy Glasgow pensioners. Still game is massive in Scotland with has 9 series with 6 to 8 episodes per series. Every episode is so funny. I have watched every one time and time again.
