I was sitting watching from behind the boundary so it was a 6, just stopped by my leg 😂 I always hit the like button for you, but not this time. You need to research before opening your mouth. every American comments on the lack of gloves used in cricket - but the wicket keeper (the guy crouching behind the batsmans wicket) does wear heavily padded gloves to protect his knuckles. Apart from that, for everyone else, cricket balls hurt when you learn to catch them! @seanscanlon9067

The wicket keeper will handle the ball far more often than any other fielder and so they wear gloves to protect all of their hands but mainly their fingers and palms when catching, more so than for their knuckles. It is more batsmen who wear gloves when batting in order to protect their knuckles and fingers and even then, they offer limited protection and broken and/or damaged fingers are not uncommon if the ball hits their gloves from a fast bowler.
@MegaGo68

But if you catch it correctly, even off the biggest hit, it does NOT hurt. And we all learnt to catch correctly when we were first learning to play. I played weekend competitive local cricket for years, took many catches, some of which could be described as “screamers” and was only hurt once. I remember it well. In attempting to take the catch, I didn’t jump quite high enough so the ball missed the palm of my hand (it was a single-handed catch attempt off a full-blooded hit, with me leaping into the air close to the batsman) but instead the ball hit my fingers forcing two of them apart and so it split the webbing between those two fingers. I dropped that catch, too, which hurt me initially more than the injury. I was unable to play for the rest of the afternoon and on the next weekend also. So yes, the ball can hurt sometimes but not at all if the catch is taken correctly.

Rules of cricket: You have two sides, one out in the field and one in. Each man that’s in the side that’s in the field goes out and when he’s out comes in and the next man goes in until he’s out. When a man goes out to go in, the men who are out try to get him out, and when he is out he goes in and the next man in goes out and goes in. When they are all out, the side that’s out comes in and the side that’s been in goes out and tries to get those coming in out. Sometimes there are men still in and not out. There are men called umpires who stay out all the time, and they decide when the men who are in are out. Depending on the weather and the light, the umpires can also send everybody in, no matter whether they’re in or out. When both sides have been in and all the men are out (including those who are not out), then the game is finished.

No, it's the whole art of the game. The subtle nuances of one man bowling a ball at a target and another man using a small piece of wood to defend or hit this ball travelling at anything upto 100 mph and to try and place his shot away from the 10 other fielders and the bowler to score runs. The bowler must try to outwit the batsman.

Just for clarity on the rules surrounding the number 1 and 2 catch... If there was no fielder involved, and the ball touches ground (for the first time) outside the boundary, the batsman gets 6 runs added to his score (just for interest, if the ball touches ground before the bloundary, and sfill crosses it, the batsman get 4 runs added to his score). If there is a fielder involved, if the fielder touches ground outside the boundary, while having the ball in hand, the batsman gets 6 runs. In catch number 2 the the fielder had to throw the ball back "in bounds" and catch it again, since he did not yet have the ball under control before he crossed the boundary. In catch number one, catching it again after throwing it was not required, since he had the ball under control after catching it the first time. He didnt have to throw it to another player after the catch, i think the only reason he did that was: in case the catch was not legit, the other player could then still throw the ball to the wicket keeper to prevent more runs. Even if the catch was legit, it is still a good idea to throw to another fielder. There are always 2 batsman working in partnership. Without getting too deep into it, on some occations, it is possible to get both batsman out at the same time. I think the fielder was keeping that in mind when he was throwing to the other fielder, in case there was a chance to also get the other batsman out.

These videos never include slips catches, which are in some ways even more amazing because of the lack of reaction time, plus being behind the batsman means the fielder doesn’t get a good look at the ball until it’s on them. Throwing a ball at a stick,that’s all cricket is. Hmmmm. Yes quite. It’s called bowling and if a bowler “threw” a ball at “the sticks” (wicket) it would be called a no ball and a possible censure for the bowler involved. The nuances and skill level involved confirm the talent and fitness required. Cricket is loved by approximately 2billion people worldwide,so it’s not a minority sport in the slightest. JPS,just because it’s not played in the US doesn’t mean it’s not a great sport. Delve a little deeper into cricket and you’ll learn it is a complex sport.
