Snap! was a EuroDance project by 2 producers from Frankfurt; the singers changed multiple times. Milli Vanilli was invented by Frank Farian, who had also produced Boney M. Milli Vanilli got in 1990 a Grammy Award, but in the same year it became known, that both "singers" were actually only dancers and playback performers, they hand sung none of the songs themselves. This scandal ended the Milli Vanilli story. 2:03 Dieter Krebs was a comedian, and that song was meant as a parody. 2:09 Torfrock are a North German Rock band, founded in 1977 and singing in German and "Plattdeutsch" (Low German, evolved from Old Low Saxon). The song "Beinhart" was the title song of the first "Werner" movie (Werner is a cartoon character by Rotger Feldmann aka "Brösel"). 2:40 Scorpions was founded in 1965 as "Nameless", publishing the first Scorpions album in 1972 and still on stage. "Winds of change" was written by lead singer Klaus Meine in September 1989 under the impression of the upcoming changes in East Europe, shortly before the fall of the wall. 4:05 Haddaway was born in Trinidad, studied in Washington D.C., moved then to Cologne, playing American Football with the Cologne Crocodiles and working in bars. In 1992 he was signed by German label Coconut Records; producers Karin Hartmann and Tony Hendrik wrote his debut single "What is Love". He lives now in Austria. 5:15 Die Fantastischen Vier (short: Fanta 4) are an hip hop group from Stuttgart, founded in 1989 and still active. 5:44 Tic Tac Toe could be described as German answer to the Spice Girls, but a bit more saucier. The title of the song translates to "I think you're sh.." 6:38 Die Toten Hosen (The dead trousers = nothing happens here) were founded in 1982 as punk rock band in Düsseldorf. They made some fun songs, some very political songs also and are still an institution within the German music scene. In summer 2023 they made first the "Alle sagen das" tour and then the "Forever" tour (the latter together with Bavarian satirical cabaret artist Gerhard Polt and the Well Brothers, a Bavarian music and cabaret band combining satirical texts with folk music). 6:47 Fools Garden were formed 1991 in Pforzheim at the northern rim of the Black Forest. 7:40 Falco was a very talented, if sometimes eccentric singer from Austria. He died in 1998 after a car accident in the Dominican Republic. 7:50 Die Ärzte ("the Doctors") is the other famous German punk rock band formed in 1982, but in Berlin. They are also still in tour. Their 2023 tour was announced only a week before it started and sold out within minutes. 8:22 Lou Bega was born in 1975 in Munich to an Italien mother and a Ugandan father.

I was born in 77, but the best music for me was in the 90s. Grunge was big back then. Also gothic, industrial and metal. I listened to bands like Nirvana, Nine inch Nails, Tool, Type O Negative, Depeche Mode, Metallica, Kyuss, and so on. Back then, every small town in Germany had a gothic/rock club where many US and European bands performed. Some performances were for adults only. That's all gone these days, but there are still some good bands

2:45 The Scorpions are from Hannover Germany and "Wind of Change" has been one of THE 2 anthems of German reuinification and the "Wendezeit". PS: The other one is NOT some song by David Hasselhoff, but "Freiheit" by Westernhagen, probably lesser known in the rest of the world due to it not being in English.

Fun fact: "Wind of Change" was released in February 1991... most people think they heard the song when the Wall fell... nope.
@arthur_p_dent
@arthur_p_dent 3 ай бұрын
@@ulliulli well, it was released during the "Wendezeit", before Germany was reunified and I believe also before the date for reunification was even set. At any rate, considering how fast things happened back then and how nobody would even in their wildest dreams have thought that the wall would fall this quickly even 2 weeks before it happened, for that song to be out by Nov 11, 1989 would have been quite prophetic.
@hw2508

@@arthur_p_dent If Wind of Change was released in 1991, I can not been released before the reunification. The song was written in 1989, released on an album in November 1990 and as a single in 1991. So, it is valid to say that it was around that time of reunification. However, Wind of Change is more about the change in Russia than in Germany. Freiheit by Westernhagen is a fantastic song.

@@hw2508 true, I should have seen that 1991 couldn't have been right. The album, "Crazy World", where the song first appears, was released in 1990, in any case. I also have to take back what I said about the text being "prophetic". Glasnost and Perestroika had been nothing new at that time, at least in the Soviet Union the "Wind of Change" could be grasped many years before the leaders of the DDR understood the signs of the time.

Falco was in fact Austrian, he made some real great songs, like Jeanny, Der Kommisar, and probably best known in the US is Rock Me Amadeus. Die Fantastischen Vier was one of the early German Hip Hop Bands singing in german, they were really good compared to many other. DJ Bobo is actually a Swiss guy, who made kind of "Techno Pop" and was extremely successful. He made a ton of money with that. Joachim Witt origins in the "German New Wave" of the 80s and has made some real cool songs and videos, kind of similar to Rammstein, but with a different type of music. Snap! was also a huge success in the 90s, also internationally. Especially the song The Power. The 2 fat guys at the start are called "Wildecker Herzbuben" and are from a entirely different music genre, which we call "Volksmusik" (yes, similar to Volkswagen...) and that most young people dispise. Nevertheless a lot of money is being made in this genre.

@@daemynionActually, this is not a collection of the best German songs, but of the best songs of the German speaking countries Germany, Switzerland and Austria. So it’s written in the description of the original video. As a German, I was quite embarrassed to find the Austrian genius Falco in this "German songs collection". He was Viennese through and through, I love his music, and I probably even blushed a little bit when I saw one of his songs in this "German" song compilation. But yeah, it‘s a German-speaking-countries-compilation, so to have Falco and DJ Bobo in it, is legit, I guess. But PLEASE, people, stop saying these are all GERMAN songs. I’m sure Falco rotates in his grave each time someone thinks he‘s German.

The Song "Beinhard" by Torfrock in 1991 was connected to the cinematic realease of the first film of Werner. The Werner Comics are fairly known in germany and during the 90s and early 2000s gained a massive boost with 5 movies. They are very chaotic since they are based on the life of the comic artist himself and his brother. It could fit with your channels, since the main character himself is a jung biker trying to balance life between races, crazy bikes and cars and his worklife as a simple plumber in training with a conceringly strange boss.

Germany established in the 90s a own music tv channel "viva" as mtv wouldnt even bother to have a german version / dubbing of its shows (like the mtv news) and program. So as there was finally a euro-centric plattfrom to cater to, many german productions could gain traction - in germany, via viva in europe (even though in german - but the eu tuned in for "their" kinda music) and then of course all over the globe. But as "ringtones and mp3 killed" their business model viva had to sell their channel - and as a espacially sad note to mtv - their goliath/fierce enemy. It lived on as a shadow of itself until mid 2010s when they pulled the plug... They became a real beacon for european music - in the golden "pre napster / mp3 dowload days". There is a recent ARD 3 part viva doc but with no subtitles so far....

Most of these songs are produced in Germany, the performers however are not necessary German or even from Europe. Eurodance was booming in Europe in the '90s so producers were looking for people to make a hit and if it did OK, they signed the performers for an album deal and so on. A lot of Eurodance "bands" changed performers multiple times during a short tenure through the '90s and it was almost always a duo, male/female pairing.

Haha, "this guy likes to talk to himself a lot" reminds me of one of my cats. She doesn’t think that I talk to myself, but whenever I talk, she thinks that I talk to her. And she responds - quite loudly - as if we really had a conversation about a serious topic. So cute. But she also does that whenever she hears me talking to someone on the phone or via the computer. Sometimes she "talks" so loud that I have difficulties to hear what the others say. This was a great video! Thank you!

90's were a kind of euphoria in Europe after the collapse of the East Block. We thought that the bad days are gone and as a Hungarian I thought we'll never have to worry about the 'Russian Bear' and autocracy... This positive vibe was reflected in the music, too. Party, rave, trance, metal, rap, tons of summer hits from one hit wonders, etc. We had no worries, a hope for a better world was there. (like the Roaring 20' s in the US...)

German Metal in the 90ies? You mean, basically Industrial, right? (which, to be fair, is just Metal splashed with European 90ies Synth vibes anyways, so that checks out) I guess there were Bands like Kreator but overall, Germany kinda whack on the Metal front compared to Britain or America in the 80ies and 90ies.

Scorpions, wind of change. This song was premiered in Moscow during the band's first tour of Russia. At that time, the wind of change and freedom was blowing through Russia. Many Eastern Bloc countries got their freedom and made their way to Europe. This freedom in Russia lasted only for a few years. Xavier Naidoo, who used to get a lot of attention. His lyrics contained religious phrases and were also heard by many Christians. But during the pandemic his statements became increasingly obscure. A court ruled that Xavier's statements were beyond the scope of tolerability. Finally, strange conspiracy theories appeared in his song lyrics. This led to the majority of his former listeners turning away from him. Taking the questionable song back and blaming others for its creation didn't help anymore. Many Christians probably thought that Xavier was close to the faith and therefore incorporated these phrases into the texts. But when he left the socially accepted soil and joined the conspirators, many people turned away.

Omg I your reaction and beer tasting videos are amazing just discover your yt channel! I got f goosebumps allover my music of my childhood 😂 that's such a feeling. All that. Btw I'm from the city of the becks beer and we got I think we got 3-5 breweries over here. I love Haake Beck Kräusen and Hemelinger Spezial (special)! From german Wikipedia ....Kräusen is the term used to describe beer wort in the main fermentation stage. The term Kräusen describes the foam formation and the foam appearance on the fermenting beer wort, it looks like frizzy hair. The carbon dioxide produced during fermentation is responsible for the formation of foam. A distinction is made between the various stages of crusting, starting with the so-called over-whitening (yeast begins to ferment and enters the cell division stage). In the next phase, the foam formation becomes somewhat stronger; this stage is referred to as young or low krausen. If more cells are present due to the multiplication of the yeast, the fermentation begins to become even stronger and is characterized by strong foam formation, the high kräusen. This is also the point at which some of the fermenting wort can be removed to be racked in the storage cellar. The purpose of the high kräusen stage is storage and maturation and provides fresh, fermenting yeast cells to already fermented young beer, which are able to carry out secondary fermentation. In the high kräusen stage of primary fermentation, hop and malt residues and protein coagulated during wort boiling are transported upwards by the fermentation carbon dioxide into the foam blanket, which becomes dirty brown over time and collapses more and more towards the end of fermentation. If gaps form in the previously closed foam layer, this is known as breakthrough, the end of primary fermentation.

Dude imagine how many LEGENDARY songs came from the 90s that people still remember and recognize and learn about. Even just from Germany, I'm born '86 and I recognize majority of them. Same can't really be said about any recent productions that you hear from radio/mainstream nowadays, I bet most people don't remember a single song that was released in 2020-2024 (or perhaps even before) that even has a potential to become anything close as iconic as these 90s hits. Really makes you think how much the whole mainstream/popular music industry has become nothing but a cash cow, losing all creativity and originality for maximum profit proven to work generic garbage.

Great music still does exist and is produced, but nowadays, if you want to have huge success with your music or at least make a living of it, you must please the algorithms. Man I love your curiosity and enthusiasm for surprise. The world needs more of this. Btw, did you go to UW? I spent six months there, what time. Crazy adventures and found life long friends. God dang do I miss those cheese curds. Here in the Netherlands we know cheese, but we are missing out big time.

I was a teenager in the 90's and luckily for the Germans I didn't realize how much of the Euro Dance tracks came from there. I hated it back then and still do - we Danes chipped in with Aqua and "Barbie Girl" to the 90's garbage music... But luckily we had some nice rock bands too. :-) I liked Enigma though...
