There is no doubting the fact that American Humour or Humor (American version) are different in many ways so it is nice to see one of our Cousins appreciating The Two Ronnie's. I highly recommend "By the sea" , which can be found on KZfaq and is a 40 minute or so film set in an English seaside resort. I wont spoil it for you but it is a film that relies not on dialogue but situation and double "double entendre" for which this wonderful pair were famous.

I used to have a short fuse, but now I prefer to take the path of John Gielgud’s manservant character in the film Arthur - quiet, dignified and direct insults, such as “You may well be right. On the other hand, why don’t you go screw yourself.”, or “How delightful to meet you. One would normally have to go to a bowling alley to meet someone of such refinement.”

Didn't like Liquorice allsorts?!!! wash your mouth out !! I love them, and could (and have) eat a whole box. Gobstoppers are large round sweets that change colour as they get smaller . They are a bit boring, I am not even sure they make the big ones we used to have when i was small, because they must have been a choke hazard. Hundreds and Thousands are usually used for topping in baking, and there are ....... hundreds and thousands in a box.

Yes thats what Hundreds and thousands are although in the sketch itself it looks like they use kali/kaylie (not sure of the spelling) as the consisctancy isn't the same as 100's and 1000's.
@StefanWB
@StefanWB 7 ай бұрын
There's an episode of Dad's Army where Pike has 100s and 1000s with that very fine texture, almost like powdered sherbet, it's so fine you just lick your finger to get it wet, stick it in the bag and then lick them off your finger. That's more the traditional sort of thing you'd have in a shop like this, rather than the ones we now mostly call sprinkles as that's what the Yanks call them. Four Candles is absolutely hilarious, the most iconic Two Ronnies, but it's also a sketch that I've seen several Americans be very baffled by, and not understand the humour. I know King Boomer has reacted to it and I don't remember how he reacted. For sharing 2R with the Colonials, you're safer to go with sketches like this one, or the Racing "Pigeon", or similar silly ones that are less based on dialects and wordplay.
@Coxy_Wrecked

@@StefanWB I guess the terminology for 100' and 1000's has probably changed through the years or is referred to differently in various parts of the UK.

So much nostalgia, I’m 29, and in my early teens I’d go to a ‘penny sweet’ shop because you can get small haribo sized sweets for 1-2 pennies each, you’d fill up one of those paper bags you saw in the beginning and that’d last you through school. It was great until it got too costly for the owners and these penny sweet shops pretty much vanished over a month, the ones you still see are either too expensive and very tourist trappy because of their ‘ye olde’ branding and stock American candies. Not like it was.

I am old enough to remember farthing chews. In sterling coinage (before decimalisation in 1971): £1 (L, Latin libra) = 20 shillings 1 shilling (s, Latin solidus) = 12 pence 1 penny (d, Latin denarius) = 4 farthings (fourthings) Until the farthing ceased to be legal tender in Britain in 1961, anyone affluent and greedy could buy 960 farthing chews for £1 ... which would also pay for a week’s shopping, when ‘1d off’ signified a bargain. In ‘Dad’s Army’, set in the early 1940s, Private Pike used his sweets ration to buy hundreds and thousands, because ‘you get more for your money’.

You should check out Morecambe and Wise. VERY traditional British humour so be aware of that but they were, and still are, one of the most loved comedy duos. They were at their peak in the 70s so their style was very much based in variety rather than sketch comedy. They had the must see show on Christmas Day evening for many years. One year the BBC dared to move it to the 26th and there was outrage and even questions in Parliament. Good place to start is the Andre Previn sketch. Suggestion re your love of tea and the baby bump. I used to take 2 heaped spoons of sugar in tea but gradually weaned myself off it. The way I did it is to reduce gradually so go to 1.5 for a few weeks then to 1 then to 0.5. The hardest step is the final 0.5 to 0.
