It isn't close to Macedonia. It is the capital of Macedonia.

Exactly! Macedonia is an ancient greek kingdom. You are confused because our northern Slav neigbours decided to use the name since the 90's. North Macedonia has nothing to do with the actual Macedonia or Alexander the Great.

Thessaloníkē. It was named after the princess Thessalonike of Macedon, the half-sister of Alexander the Great, whose name means "Thessalian victory", from Thessalos, and Νίκη 'victory' (Nike) ( yes like Nike the American athletic footwear corporation who take the name by Greek goddess of victory Νίκη) so the father of Alexander the Great Philip II of Macedon name his daughter after the victory he has against Thessaly. So The city was founded in 315 BC by Cassander of Macedon, who named it after his wife Thessalonike, daughter of Philip II of Macedon and sister of Alexander the Great.

maceidonia is a region in greece. The other guys stole the name they have nothing to do with macedonia they are bulgarian slavs who dont know history :)

yes we have a lot of coffee shops and cafeterias!!! BTW the yellow house at 11:52 if I'm not mistaken is thought to be hounted!!! One of the hounted houses in Thessaloniki!!!

Some Facts about Thessaloniki (My city). Thessaloniki was named after Alexanders the Grait half siste . Her name - a combination of the words “Thessaly” (a region south of Macedonia) and “Nike” (Victory) Thessaloniki is the capital of Real Macedonia (Makedonia) . Thessaloniki was one of the first places where Christianity was preached when Paul the Apostle visited the city in 50/51 AD. Thessaloniki was the birthplace of the brothers Cyril and Methodius, the inventors of the oldest known Slavic alphabet (the Glagolitic script). After their death, at the end of the 9th century, their disciples created the Cyrillic script based on the work of Cyril and Methodius and the Greek alphabet. The Cyrillic script is used today in the alphabets of most of the Slavic languages.

Hey, I've been following your journey through Australia, and as you know, Melbourne has a very large Greek diaspora. My dad is from a village 80km from Thessaloniki. I went back a few years ago, and this video brought back good memories. Cheers!

Home sweet home🥺 Ohhh the bloody pigeons🤦‍♀️yes, they are everywhere.. The city is mostly famous for its nightlife and its vibe in general, which is not portrayed in this video.. But what shocks me every time in these type of videos is that people go to Greece and don't eat Greek food 🤦‍♀️croissants, doughnuts, cinnamon rolls??!!Nahhh... The roads.. Hmmm... Yeah.. Disastrous outcome of the country's financial status and corrupted politicians. I love my city, but.. It is what it is.

🎉excuse me for this but America has money and power but Greece has history and Macedonia and byzantine. And as Jesus christ said, it is the time to glory the name of God to the nations, when Greeks came meet him.
