The reason why British food has a bad reputation is related to the fact we had food rationing during the second world war and this continued for another 8 years after ,so any foreign person who visited this island wouldn't have been impressed with the paucity of choice or lack of flavour in many dishes . Britain was a pretty poor place after the second world war which many people today are blissfully unaware of.

Try some British Dinners, you can make them at home all you need to do is look up the recipes. 1) Shepards Pie. 2) Cottage Pie. 3) Bangers & Mash. 4) Lancashire Hotpot. 5) Beef Wellington. 6) Toad in the hole. you could even try a traditional English Breakfast but i'd say leave some things to try till you manage to get to the UK lol like Black pudding etc some things you can only get here anyway like haggis and cornish pasties.

Cornish pasties are very popular in Butte, Montana, due to all the Cornish tin miners who emigrated there in the late 19th century looking for work and taking the recipe with them.

Hay James. best thing to do with marmite is on toast spread very very thinly. It's a very rich flavour. I like marmite on toast and also as a hot drink 1 teaspoon in a mug with hot water. It's not for everyone. you either love it or hate it. from 🇬🇧👍 an old cockney gal

Great reaction James, yeah - I’ve heard these stereotypes before lol! Most have been borne in truth at some point eg the bland cooking due to war rations at the time. I think British food is great, for the most part. We have excellent seafood (especially in Scotland), beef, lamb, fish etc. Also, within most of the bigger cities there is a melting pot of cultures, so you often find great Chinese food, Indian, Japanese, Turkish etc. The celebrity chef thing was funny though - Jamie Oliver’s restaurants (I think) have gone into receivership and Gordon Ramsey rarely cooks in any of his. Although there are a few celebrity chef’s restaurants I’ve visited over the years that have been brilliant, lots can be over-rated, especially the chain style restaurants. They’re spot on with the tea though - I probably drink 2 or 3 cups a day, but some of my work colleagues must get through 7 or 8 easily! There are so many different types of tea too, from the usual English Breakfast, to Camomile, Green Tea, Earl Grey, Darjeeling etc and so many fruit and herbal teas! Whenever I order a ‘breakfast tea’ in the US - I’m ALWAYS disappointed lol! When you visit, I’ll take you for a lovely ‘afternoon tea’ - it’s really popular, one of my favourites is in the Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh, you get lovely finger sandwiches and artisan mini rolls with various fillings, miniature pastry’s, cakes, scones etc with home made jam and fresh cream, a choice of teas (there are over 100 types on the menu!) and a lovely bottle of my favourite pink champagne! Fantastic way to spend a rainy Scottish afternoon! It’s not cheap, but totally worth it for a treat (we just go on birthdays etc) and you get enough food to feed an army - and can ask for more! I always ask for a box and take all the leftovers home too! I think we also drink a lot of coffee in the uk too now - there are loads of coffee shops on every high street now, and we have drive through costa, Starbucks etc too. Best of luck with the Marmite - I can’t stand it, but I know a few people who do love it, spread thinly on hot buttered toast. It’s definitely not for me though lol!

I think the bad teeth stereotype goes back to rationing after WW2 leading to dietary deficiencies, which affected general health including teeth in the 60s and 70s. As for accents, there was a TV documentary in the 1970s about a town called Leigh - 15 miles from where I grew up in Manchester - which had subtitles as nobody, including me, had any idea what they were saying!

Scottish Geordie? 😂😅 Okay there are like a million Scottish accents and the same with the north east (of England) so I don’t know what he’s on about there, but otherwise yeah pretty good. I personally love British food, especially the seafood I mean look how much water we have around is; never far from the coast here. There’s a reason the world loves Scottish salmon, langoustine, lobster, oh the list goes on. Fish and chips! Love from Scotland and UK overall. ❤ ✌️❤️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇬🇧🏳️‍🌈xxx

There so much do do and see in london if you know where to go. it's ok see all the famous sight seeing places it and all so get a bit crowded to. go for a walk off the beaten path. that's when your likely to find some hidden gems. instead of staying in a hotels Which can cost a bit. There are plenty of B&Bs in london. hopefully when you go back home you'll have some wonderful memories to tell your family and friends. never be a shamed to ask for directions on where to go. it's all way a rule before any sight seeing is have a pint in a pub. Hi James, there are many accents as you mentioned, a month or so back I read there are 300 accents in the UK, its far more, well many variations of accents, so take those 300 accents and perhaps add a naught, there are several videos giving examples of accents in the UK, some better than others I have to admit, avoid the larger channels such as Anglophenia, she's good at posh accents but not a the more down to earth matters as she has never really been around them for any period of time, great reaction as ever, take care :)

I don't know who is drinking my average of 3 cups of tea a day! I don't like the stuff! Our weathers is very temperamental where i am! I live in North Devon so we have he sea to the north of use and is situated between 3 Moor's (Exmoor, Dartmoor, & Bodmin Moor) just 2 days ago it was poring with rain (during the school run obviously!) then was warm and sunny for the rest of the day! So it is always a bit conversation topic!

It's not just different parts of the country that have different accent's but most of the city's have divided accents and a common underlying dislike for everybody who does not live in the same street or road. Example London north or south of the river, North England don't like south (London) the southern England don't like Londoner's, the Londoner's don't like the Scott's , it just goes on and on basically the entire country is full of people who don't like each other,so they use Manners and politeness and accent's to use as a form of sarcasm and to make fun of others,as only the British can do. Don't be fooled we may seem polite and friendly and we never say out loud what we feel it's the British way. But behind closed doors we have some vile description s of someone who lives only a few miles away ,just think what we say about people from others countries. But then we do suffer from a very strang sense of humour, and without the weather we would have nothing else to complain about. If you want to see the real British go to a big rival football match you will have a much different opinion when the match ends.

I don't care what anyone says home is the best. I remember watching the consumer's watchdog many moons ago. and they did a survey on microwave foods. and they said microwave foods was doing more harm than good. the only time I use a microwave is to warm my tea up. the food thing is so strange, its no different to the teeth thing. People in the uk have been eating foods from all around the world for literally hundreds of years, you can get any food you want in the uk, its so strange to rank a country in modern days food, everywhere in the world has fantastic food its 2023, the most popular foods in the uk are roast dinners, indian, kebab, chineese, italian, french, mexican and chippy food of course which is fried foods like fish. The national dish of the uk is often said to be the Chicken Tikka Masala, look it up if you dont beleive me. In fact when it comes to food standards the uk is much much more strict than the us so the quality of food is often better, theres no farm raised salmon only fresh and theres less chemical additives to food. Ive had a lot of fantastic food in the usa but it really wasnt consistent some places were absolutely atrocious especially the fast food places, oh my god why is burger king and kfc in the usa so bad haha., in the uk most places are good especially in cities, you can eat the weird old dishes if you want but its no different to japan having weird eel, and fermented soy bean foods that people really dont eat anymore.

Intolerant?! That's just a stick to beat all those who wanted to leave the EU with. I would say we are one of the more tolerant, accepting countries on the whole. Accents? I used to have a job where I regulatly needed to speak to colleagues in North Wales where their first language is Welsh and it was very awkward!! And I'm from South Wales. I can understand first language people from South Wales though🤷‍♀️ Tea yes pretty much true - on cold, damp days it's a hug in a mug🤭 Teeth? I think people's teeth back in the 60s and 70s often weren't so good - smoking probably didn't help either!!

When I heard the American accent and saw it was a crude animation I thought - oh no, not another one of these dopey lists. But it turned out to be quite fair and accurate. About the food - it seems Americans can't tolerate strong flavours. British friends come back from a trip to the USA longing for a curry after all the bland, sugary food.

Drinking is a huge aspect of British life as it helps give the drinkers the courage to fight and participate in general hooligan-like activities, and considering every night (Mon - Sat) is fight-night in the local pubs, high streets and town squares, reaching a a crescendo on Saturday night, what with the footballers who are still celebrating the Football World Cup of 1966, thinking all people who speak with a different accent are definitely German, French, Argentinian etc., and thus the enemy, even though they are only from the village 5 miles down the road - drinking is very popular, as the fists fly, and people throw fish, chips and mushy peas, and the odd bottle of Marmite at each other... Having said that, on Sundays it does quieten down as it is the weekly wash / bath / shower night - so people go home early from the pubs!

Hay James. originally tea is loose tea and not teabags. Put 3 teaspoons of loose tea in a teapot. leave for 10 to 15 minutes add cream sugar or milk. The company tetley teabags first introduced teabags in 1953 and others followed in the 1960s. I still use loose tea I think it taste better.
