Teddy Boys were a youth culture "tribe" in the Britain of the 1950s who had a distinctive hairstyle known as a "DA" (short for "Duck's Arse"). They were a bit like American Greasers, but with better dress-sense.

And you couldn't expect to "get" it in a month of Sundays. Even a majority of younger people in the UK wouldn't get it, so let yourself off the hook!

Teddy Boys, from the Edwardian style jackets they wore. With shoe lace ties, drain pipe trousers and suede shoes with thick crepe soles. "The 'classic' Teddy boy style was denoted above all by the long, drape jacket redolent of the American zoot-suit. It was usually worn in dark shades, sometimes with pocket flaps and velvet trim, while trousers were narrow and worn fairly high on the waist". Hair was heavily "greased" so it stuck out at the back in a DA.

The final joke was that he was conned by the coal man too because he was taking his greyhound out to train him to hunt ducks and came out with a Yorkshire terrier (full grown not a puppy) instead.

DA has already been explained - and "water off a ducks back" (i.e. has no real impact/effect on someone) was the play on words when he substituted "duck" for "Argentinain racing pigeon " . Argentinian racing pigeons are of course known for their red bills rather than yellow.

Teddy boys (and girls) were the teenagers of the 1950s that followed Rock n Roll music, they had a certain hair style, D A which was a Quiff at the front and a D A (ducks arse) at the back. Think Elvis Presley, James Dean etc, for American comparisons. Teddy boys generally wore suits with Drapes (a type of jacket) usually brightly coloured, Blue or Yellow or Red or various other colours. And they wore suede shoes, hence the song blue suede shoes.

Love the old style kitchen with the boiler over the sink , as usual a clever routine on an old theme , it did look like the duck actually quacked on cue . The two Ronnies rarely disappoint .

Ronnie Braker used to submit sketches for the show under an assumed name and they would get used and it was very late they found out it was him. He liked the racier sense of humour. Compulsive watching.

Teddy Boys wore drape jackets with velvet collars and tight fitting drainpipe trousers. Their shoes were suede with very thick crepe shoes. We have all heard of Elvis`s Blue Swede Shoes. They were called Teddy Boys because their clothing was based on Edwardian style clothing. Teddy being a nickname for Edward. Unfortunately some of the gangs were antisocial and carried cutthroat razors. Slashing cinema seats was a favourite past time as well as one another. Elvis had a Teddy Boy hair cut which had a protruding peak at the front called an Elephants Trunk. One more observation, thy wore very narrow ties.

An old late friend of mine was a Ted in the 50s, until he was involved in a fight that had drawn knives. There and then, he ditched the whole culture - except for the music - thinking "I ain't gettin' involved in all that!"

At 2:02 he calls Ronnie Corbett a 'berk' which sounds pretty mild insult, but is actually very insulting as it derives from Cockney rhyming slang, 'Berkeley Hunt', slang for 'c**t'. Susie Dent , the word expert on Countdown said so.

You will just have to watch over again, and catch up with the jokes. Many of them are particular to the UK, for example the "teddy boys haircut" - this style was from the 1950's, so you are too young to know this! Don't worry about not getting all the jokes first time round, they throw them out so fast.....
