As an ex sniper myself I can say this film is quite good and quite realistic. It’s the hardest job in the military but it’s just who we are.

On February 2, 2013, Kyle and his friend, Chad Littlefield, 35, were shot and killed by Eddie Ray Routh at the Rough Creek Ranch-Lodge-Resort shooting range in Erath County, Texas. Both Kyle and Littlefield were armed with .45-caliber 1911-style pistols when they were killed, but neither gun had been unholstered or fired, and the safety catches were still on. Kyle was killed with a .45-caliber pistol, while Littlefield was shot with a 9 mm SIG Sauer pistol. Both guns belonged to Kyle. Routh was a 25-year-old U.S. Marine Corps veteran from Lancaster, Texas. Kyle and Littlefield had reportedly taken Routh to the gun range in an effort to help him with his posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

I served with someone who did 8. Three in Iraq, Three in Afghanistan, one in Syria, and one in Germany. A total of 10 1/2 years. The first tour his daughter was 6 and his son was 3. At the end of his last tour his daughter was 22 and his son was 19. He saw them a total of just over three years as children.

Over 12 year period, my son was in special forces, did 6 tours in Iraq, Afganistan, and 2 in Africa. He is now retired with 100% disability. An honorable man.And my son.

13:57 I haven't seen this movie a lot of times but I just now realized that the bullet hit Biggles' rifle and it was deflected upwards which was how he got the head wound. Him still being able to bandage himself while lying on the ground is still pretty badass.

A lot of soldiers with PTSD have violent interactions to familiar war sounds. It can be the sound of a car or bark of a dog or even an argument.

My platoon Sgt did 7 tours. Most at least 12 months. Some 18 months. He spent over 8 years at war. Several of the people in my office knew Chris. The guy that owns our building was one of his best friends. The movie took several liberties. One of which was the circumstances of the day of his death. Chris was actually in a fight with his wife and sleeping on his (my office owners) couch when he was picked up by the man that would kill him. He was not at home with his wife. Chris's rifle company "Craft" was located in our office and the logo still hangs on one of our walls. I know Chris's brother, Jeff. Great guy. He was Marine Force Recon. They portrayed him kind of negatively in this movie. The people I know that knew Chris don't particularly like this movie and they like his wife, Taya, even less. Just some inside info for you guys.

The end of that movie gets me every time, his send off was so big, My aunt spent 30 years in the fire department and when she passed she had a sendoff not that big but pretty big from the funeral home to graveyard every fire station past had all their equipment out by the road and other people saluting

Col Dave Grossman's books "On Killing" and "On Combat" are fantastic books and detail alot of the reasons soldiers suffer from PTSD and number of stories of the experiences that cause it. 😭😭😭 If your struggling, help is out there. PLEASE reach out to someone! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 American Sniper, 13 Hours, Blackhawk Down, and Hurt Locker ... pretty much the definitive millitary life experience with having to sign up. 💔😭😭😭

Just an FYI, the scene at the end of the cars and the people alongside the road and on the overpasses, that was actual footage ... and it continued all the way down to highway until they got to their destination. This was in Texas 🤠

Originally the movie has the part where Chris takes the guy to the range to help the veterans with ptsd and he gets killed but Chris' widowed asked for that part to be taken out so their kids could watch it and so that is why they have the abrupt ending and then it goes to actual footage of the funeral procession.

Fun Fact: The Average SEAL had 7-10 Tridents on their casket usually put there by the ones closest to them usually their Teammates and other seals. Chris Kyle had 160 Tridents on his casket, more than any other SEAL a true testament to his character and the amount of lives he impacted.

Such a tragic tragic true story, thesot deadly sniper in US history and he corrected his life and come home ajd did good and a veteran with PTSD killed him.!RIP Chris Kyle! May eagles protect you beyond! My dad lost his leg in Vietnam and he’s still fighting it today but like a chris a true patriot! His titania :carbon leg is hydro wrapped in the American flag . We lost my mom November 3rd to brain cancer and my sad still pushes on. Love and miss her!

Unfortunately, a ton of the details in this film and in Kyle's autobiography were fabricated by the man, himself. So I'd take the film as being "inspired on a true story". Its just a reminder to me that we all have our flaws and Kyle was no exception.

Sure biographical films contain some inaccuracies for a number of reasons but I'm referencing the things that came out of his mouth/book and made it to film. Also somewhat unrelated but his false claim of sniping New Orleans looters during hurricane Katrina is disgusting.

@Peacefield So... you would rather them react and watch movies about what we did in response to 9/11? One of the tragedies that brought many of us together even though it broke our hearts? You would rather have them react to a kid getting his head drilled. Kids qnd women getting sniped but not one of the stories where the passengers made the sacrifice to retake the plane and prevent it from reaching it's target? You would rather them react to what we fought for instead of a film where first responders and emergency services went in when we got out? Note that I recommended those films only if they were up for watching them. Think about it. Someone filmed and directed those films because it happened and they wanted to tell us a story that none of us had the courage to bring up to the public. Just like Clint Eastwood did American Sniper... to tell this story. I recommended those films because we shouldn't forget the things we did in the darkest hours.

As your most recent post I'll put this here. This will be a perfect movie to see at this time. If you love Romance, I believe you will fall in love with this movie. It is visually magnificient and had several great actors in it. This is "A Walk In The Clouds" Starring Keanu Reeves, Anthony Quiinn, Aitana Sanchez-Gijon and Giancarlo Giannini. It set just after WWII with Keanu a returning soldier and our two lovers are irresistably drawn to each other though they are both bound by other problems. I'll say no more than that. Watch it and be captivated.

No it's not normal. I believe those scenes were inspired in the book when he's on the phone with his wife when the base he was stationed in gets attacked and he forgot to hang up. His wife could hear the battle going on.

Please watch a documentary called the conscientious objector true story about Desmond Doss. It is about an army Medic in World War II which there is another movie called hacksaw Ridge which is about Desmond Doss however they left out a lot of details and hollywoodized a lot of other details. So if you want watch conscientious objector first because it contains interviews with Desmond Doss and the people he served with and then watch hacksaw Ridge thank you

The official story isn't accepted by all. I am merely stating what I have heard by many, that some beleive that Eddie Ray Routh was put up to it for political reasons. I don't know. PTSD alone could explain what happened, but so could politics. Kyle was very vocal politically. I'm sure if you look around you will read many of the theories.

Chris and his friend was killed by a veteran like right after the last scene in the movie. The veteran pleaded insanity but his testimony didnt help him in that. That guy was fucked in the head, no one can truly know why he did what he did but hes never coming out thats for sure.

I fought in the Battle of Ramadi (and Sadr City) with Kyle. I was a tanker and we would pull OP shifts where we would just post up and observe. The good thing about being a tanker as opposed to a sniper is that everyone can see you. One time we were watching a man suspiciously carrying something under his robe and he noticed that the main gun of a tank was following him around. He quickly put his hands up in a panic. Less room for misunderstandings that way.

Did you not realize this was a true story? The guy in the last scene that Chris was going to the gun range with went crazy and shot him at the range. The funeral procession at the end was real footage.

This is a true story, based off the book he wrote...except the end...he was trying to help thst fuck...then once they got out the car at the shooting range that guy shot chris anfmd his friend..coward shotvchris 9 times in the back

It's called hyper vigilant. When he was looking at everyone walking by and then he snapped when he thought the dog was biting that kid. My wife hates mine, and she has to snap me out of it often. It sucks and it is not a conscious thought to be that way. You just are, and I have no clue that I even went there until she snaps me out of it.
