The reason they're so expensive is because of the quality, it's so much better than McDonald's, and Burger King, their food is processed, where as BurgerFuel uses home grown ingredients.

Im a kiwi. Yes burger fuel is expensive but its 100% nz owned and the quality is better if you compare it to the likes of burger king. You can also get some good deals with the app and a free burger on your birthday

That McD's in Porirua is the first one in New Zealand. It opened in 1976. Not only do we still have KMart in New Zealand, but more stores are still opening. The one in Napier is only about 2 years old.

I think their prices are around the same as the so-called "Gourmet" range at MacDonalds, or the Burger Wisconsin chain here in NZ, who the quality is most comparable to. I have no problem with paying the price if I want a decent burger. Not cheap to run a business anywhere these days. So if you want it, and can afford it, pay up. Otherwise stick to the basic range at MacD's or Burger King if lining your stomach is all that is important.

Yep totally agree, the burgers are too expensive. The fries (chips in NZ) do get softer trapped in a cardboard box where there is steam/heat. Trick is to eat them fresh as they are made. Even 4 or 5 mins later they will be softer. All up though, Burgerfuel makes nice beef burgers. ‘Can’t see why you need a fried chicken burger. ‘Suggest you also try Fatimas when you are in Auckland and dive into a lamb Shawarma. I don’t know if they are in Welly.

Yeah, even for New Zealand, Burger Fuel is definitely on the spensi side. You do get good quality and flavour, but boy do you pay for it. I only go there to treat myself or if I'm taking someone who's never tried it before (everyone should go at least once). Even if I had more disposal income, I don't think I'd go there more often than that just on principle.

I want to recommend a place in Kapiti, which I see you've been before, called "Salty's Diner" and the reason why is because they are awesome and they are a Kiwi take on an American style diner. Hey Brock.... I don't know if you are sticking to the main centres or travelling the regions. 2 suggestions... Fairlie Bakehouse pies are among the best in the country, but a little pricey. Well worth trying. My favourite is the Pork Belly. But they do a ton of gourmet flavours. In Timaru, the best burgers are from VIP's, which is a dairy/fast food on the main road. Good ingredients and generous portions.

Burger Fuel is my go to takeaways, and every time I get extra Aioli, it's so good and totally worth the price for the quality!!

The other thing you have to remember is Burger Fuel's burgers are like 3 to 4 times the weight of say a burger king burger. The beef parry is actually thick and properly charred. It's a premium brand.

Burger fuel is definitely on the more expensive side they target a specific audience so their prices reflects that, it’s not for the average Joe, it’s more for consumers who are after a more gourmet burger, they use more expensive ingredients such as beetroot and avocado etc in their burgers, they have a loyal customer base hence why they can survive with such high prices

Highly recommend Burger Wisconsin for a one time try if you have one around you as well, same deal as burger fuel, really good burgers (in my opinion) but a bit pricey.

I have this understanding that Burgerfuel in the 00's is basically what brought aoli to the public in NZ. Then it was everywhere. I don't remember there being aoli around before Burgerfuel. Anyone else remember?

A number of points should be noted... Firstly Burger Fuel is a gourmet burger chain meaning that all ingredients are either free range or ethically sourced. By definition, this means that they will be expensive which carries over to the price. Secondly (its been years since I had a Bastard & it has bn altered in the intervening time) is the largest of Burger Fuels menu options and hence commands the largest price. That said, the earlier version included mango chutney which they've substituted for something else (beetroot slaw?) which puts me off ordering it.

OK... so, it's not takeout, but please try Whittakers chocolate. You can get a block from any supermarket for about 5 bucks. Also, try out coffee and compare it to US coffee... but just to be on the safe side, get a coffee from a chain coffee shop (eg, Robert Harris), an independent coffee shop, from Maccas, and from a Z service station.

My go to Burger Fuel burger is the Ford Freakout - has beef, bacon and avo. Jaffa is a chocolate orange flavour.

If you want the true kiwi experience hopefulmy youre here during summer because you need to try 1. Pork bone Boil up w doughboys (fry bread on the side) 2. A traditional hangi 3. Whitebait fritters 3. Pavlova (Bonus nacks and drinks; burger rings, Whittakers milk Chocolate, (tim tam double coat (arnotts butternut snap is good too), pascal party mix, marmite and chip sandwich, whittakers pineapple lump chocolate milk, raro. Classic kiwi combo you can get from most dairys Big ben Steak and cheese pie, choc bar ice cream (memphis meltdown is also good) can of l&P

Burger Fuel is awesome, and for a Celiac suffer like me, it’s the ONLY fast food type place that actually does a proper gluten free burger, and it’s any burger you fancy, not limited to one boring burger. The Burgers are so big and full they are more than twice the amount of food and the quality makes it worth it for me.

Maybe it's just me, but the prices are fair for what you get. I get a burger from burger fuel and I'm full for a good few hours, I get a Mac large attack combo from mcdonalds I'm starving in a couple of hours. So the upfront price is kind've nullified by having to eat less in a day. Just my opinion though

Burgerfuel are likely the best chain burger joint in NZ, but there are probably better burger places around for similar high-end prices. Burger Burger, Burger Geek (one shop only I think) in Auckland just to name a couple, but BF are throughout the country and you know the quality is going to be consistent wherever you go.

I think the prices match what I would consider average for a Burger specialist outfit like burger fuel. Burger Culture in Nelson has steadily risen its prices and their burgers have reduced in size over the past few years. You got good quality there. 👌

You should try the traditional Australian burger: beef pattie, lettuce, sliced beetroot, bread & butter pickle, pineapple, fried egg, bacon, cheese, sauce to taste (ketchup or BBQ, or hot) none of that fancy sauce “aolii” isn’t that a musical?

The cost of living here is INSANE. I really really feel sorry for visitors who want to try all our food but are shocked by the prices. We're (kinda) used to it, but for travellers it can be a bit of a gut punch. Even our fast food chains are pricey. Glad you enjoyed BurgerFuel. My fave place for burgers in Wellington is Burger Liquor. I like a simple burger, like the double standard (& a whiskey)

Agree that most "gourmet" burgers in NZ are far too expensive. Recommend you try K-Chicken Bistro in Miramar, out by the airport. Their chicken is super moist and the spice ranges in 4 steps from none to super spicy. Reasonable price too.
