For anyone wondering why the serious and factual answer is they do it to make the worms beneath move in the soil to make them easier to detect The better answer however is they just feel the need to groove

Reminds me of one time where a bunch of cats fell into an empty pool near my grandpa's house, due to the fact it was 3 am i couldn't be bothered to get them out, but it was still very interesting to see how the momma cat was imitating the movement pattern of a prey while the other cats tried to group up on her.

I mean they don't seem to be looking for worms when they walk, they're also CLEARLY not interested in camouflaging when they're bopping across the street out in the open like that and the ground seems quite compacted so they're obviously not testing the stability so... what other explanation is there? They're simply feeling it.
