You’ve likely seen news articles lately about changes to our schedule, but there’s more to the story than just the headlines. In the latest episode of Tell Me Why, Brian Znotins, Vice President of Network Planning, joins Ron DeFeo, Chief Communications Officer, to discuss how schedules are built to meet the needs of our customers, team members and the operation.

I right this out of love for AA not to be negative or down on the airline. I have been flying American for almost 40 years and have AAdvantage status. AA's algorithm for connections when it comes to scheduling is flawed and causes unneeded miss connects. An example of this is the computer will allow for around a 1 hour connection through MIA on an international connection coming into the country. That is impossible and automatically a miss connect. -Again on the algorithm the computer if your flight is canceled for example on the JFK to BOS route will reschedule you for the next day instead of re-booking on the north eastern alliance partner JetBlue on a flight that leaves 1 hour after the canceled flight the same day. -AA will schedule a flight to a Caribbean market where +90% of the customers are coming in on connections at a time that is unrealistic for the arrival of the first inbound bank of flights. Definitely happens at MIA. -AA should schedule the pilots to fly with the FA's for the entire day and when possible to keep their aircraft. This takes a lot of the variables out of delays and limits the damage from late flights. -AA should schedule their pilots and FA work schedules more realistically. Scheduling pilots to fly 7h50m in a day with 2 or 3 legs is unrealistic and why the airline collapses so easily when there are irregular operations. -AA should try and schedule the same aircraft on routes. For example LGA to ORD should be either all 737s or A319s, and not a mix of 737s and A319s. This makes move ups impossible. Which causes unneeded delays and cancelations. I hope someone at American will read this and see how much I care about the airline.
