I believe that they are available for sale as an “off road only” vehicle. I see new ones in the Auto Trader frequently. Before everyone gets upset because they aren’t road legal, I would point out the fact that they have no crush zone in front as new legal vehicles do. Basically it’s some thin sheet metal and your feet that will stop whatever you’ve hit. No air bags, padding or much else. You’d be better served in a good quad that has a proper roll cage. Trust me you would not want to try to keep up with traffic in a kei car. You can’t. A Smart car is a tank by comparison. But hey, it’s America and all, it’s your life to throw…wager.

Now, both Americans and Canadians can buy brand new, 2023 or newer model year Kei cars as soon as the Japanese automakers decide which ones to import here. Equipped with tiny 660cc (0.66L) engines, the Kei cars did not meet federal safety and emission standards for the past 41 years but finally, both the US and the Canadian government simultaneously approved new regulations that allow these micro cars to pass the federal requirements. The official announcement will be released within the 24 hours - but David Chao was able to obtain the breaking news early and he's letting all the viewers know before anyone else.
