'Pied Off' (is a pretty new saying and as he said, mainly used on the TV show 'Love Island): Means to be rejected or dumped ! 'Minted' (which has been around for quite a while now): Means loaded, or having a lot of money (or, sometimes it can mean good). 'Munted' (is quite a bit older, since about 2007/8 ish?): Two main ways of using it: 1/ Refers to the property of an object (or person) as broken, ruined, significantly damaged, disfigured or deformed, often to the extent that it is not reversible or repairable. 2/Very drunk or in an extreme state of intoxication by way of drugs or alcohol such that the subject's ability to perform basic tasks such as walking and talking are significantly impaired. NB: In NZ and Australian slang, 1/ is the more common sense, and in UK slang 2/ is more common.

Aye up mi duk = hello Arr ya didlin = how are you Fai ta mod = OK Wan sum scran? = are you hungry Wayers bog? = where is the bathroom By the time we parted they were fluent in Derbyshire. Not the way my Gran taught me to make tea, and its milk 1st. Grandad liked his black and referred to it a Somme Water. Shows you how old I am. Warm the Teapot, flush, add fresh hot water, add the tea, loose or bag your choice allow to mask/steep. Add milk to cup, just a tot, pour tea, use a filter sieve if loose. Add extra milk if required, the more milk the weaker the tea taste. Ideal colour a dark tan.

BOB'S YOUR UNCLE - the origins are uncertain, but a common theory is that the expression arose after Conservative Prime Minister Robert Gascoyne-Cecil, 3rd Marquess of Salisbury ("Bob") appointed his nephew Arthur Balfour as Chief Secretary for Ireland in 1887, an act of nepotism, which was apparently both surprising and unpopular. Whatever other qualifications Balfour might have had, "Bob's your uncle" was seen as the conclusive one.

Hello Ethan and Angela. Very British and amusing and interesting to see your reaction, with you having been here. He pointed out that there is not just one type of British person, which can come as news to those elsewhere. The unifying thing is generally tea, which he also covered, though I feel this opinion may be because I am from Yorkshire. I do enjoy gravy, so he got that almost right, except for things better accompanied by mushy peas with vinegar and mint sauce.

The "Milk first" rule only applies when you are pouring hot tea into a bone china tea cup and likewise, the purpose of "warming the pot" all serve to prevent a bone china tea set potentially cracking from the sudden shock of boiling water pured into cold tableware. Builder's Tea is made in the mug; boiling water straight onto a teabag, preferably the punchy "Yorkshire Tea" brand. Squeeze the bag in the cup with a teaspoon until the brew looks about right, Only add milk after you're satisfied the tea has brewed and you've removed the bag. Two teaspoons of sugar into this brew complies as "NATO standard". Pouring the milk in with the teabag first ensures the milky fluid you end up with will never be hot enough to get any depth of flavour out your tea.

NO !!! You pour ^boiling^ water on the tea leaves or tea bags in the tea pot, and steep there. You put milk in the cup first, then pour in the tea. If you pour milk into hot tea it gets scalded and spoilt.

The lower classes use teabags we people with a sense of occasion, when drinking this after we had showered or bathed , shaved and brushed our teeth then drink tea with smoked kippers is a fish, then boiled eggs with asparagus or toast maybe back bacon never streaky bacon in which you Americans eat over done and burnt and Irish pork sausages unless we have a local farm that makes it's own sausages then with scrumble eggs placed in a pan with butter that pan must start from cold then you bring the heat up on a slow heat eggs and by bringing into the centre of the pan and moving all the time soft eggs . Has for builders tea, that's teabags and I myself have had it and it's nice,I I'm used to loose tea and it must be strong one or two sugars are the norm. But for use it's loose tea breakfast tea or earl grey these tea's can be eaten with cakes and sandwiches in the afternoon and evening or with breakfast meals . Boiling hot water poured into a teapot left for two minutes stirring twice before pouring this tea into a fine china cup then add milk full fat, milk, then if you take sugar or sugar free sweeteners then add these until your hearts content, pass this brew to guesses or have your butler or housemaid serve you. A continental breakfast may include cornflakes, bread rolls and jam or marmalade there are some superb different jam's and marmalades, peach, raspberry, strawberry, plum, damson, blackberry, mulberry jam's, lemon and lime, pear and damson, loganberry and orange marmalade all different all unique in favour and taste. Other breakfast foods are tinned tomatoes on buttered toast the same with eggs on toast and mushrooms on toast until you try it don't knock it or with a full English this is where it gets a little bit devisive black pudding or blood sausage some people just don't like it I'm one of them, but put on the plate, people eat it tinned tomatoes or fried tomatoes, the juice it's fantastic you mop up the juice from tomatoes with buttered toast or bread. Then the last thing is do rich or affluent person's does is eat fried bread it's a must with it buttered both sides and fried and with a second cup of tea. My father didn't like tea at all through his life he drunk something called coffea black the tiniest bit of sugar even in the service that's the army being a gentleman serving in the armed forces his batman would serve coffea to him every time, when at luncheon or in the field or officers mess service with other officers in rank to follow with dress code uniforms seating arrangement are senior officer then the ranks in lower order and sitting inbetween the officers ladies not wife's, all officers wife's are referred to as lady and common soldiers had the misses or the wife and we come back to tea, please try loose tea it's ten times better Love mum

When I came to the UK with my parents from South Africa in 1962, we stayed for a while with my mother's parents in Barking. They were very much Cockney, so I had a problem understanding them at first. It was a 'treat' every Sunday to buy fresh steamed cockles (as well as whelks) from a chap with a barrow down the high street. At the table, we were each given a pin to remove the 'cap' on each cockle and extrude the little chewy sea-tasting creature inside. These were served with thin slices of bread and margarine. This was so exotic to me. Recently, in my local supermarket, I discovered with delight a jar of cockles and discovered to my dismay how terrible they were, gristly and saturated with salt. Can people still buy fresh cockles nowadays? Robert, uk.

I think the information supplied suffered a little from some lame jokes, but he did OK with accents and was suitably humble about any weaknesses there. Peaky Blinders is VERY popular here. It's incredibly well written, produced and the acting is great. Pretty brutal. Did you know it is based on a real gang from the late 1900s who 'ruled' Birmingham. They were called the Blinders because they sewed razors into their cap brims and used them to blind their opponents. Many were young boys in their mid-teens. I think they were eventually obliterated by another gang. Violent times.

They included *Trollied* (Trolley), *Ratted* (Rat), *Hammered* (Hammer), *Wrecked* (Shipwreck), *Mashed* (Mashed Potato), *Badgered* (Badger), *Steaming* (Steam Train) etc 10:45 A sentence taken from *Jimmy Carr.* 11:10 No, *Sarah Millican* is not a *Geordie.* She's a *Sand Dancer.* *Geordie's* are from *Newcastle-upon-Tyne,* whereas *Sand Dancers* are from *South Shields.* There's also *Mackems* from *Sunderland,* *Pitmatics* from *Northumberland/County Durham,* and *Smoggies* from *Middlesbrough* (Bob Mortimer land) among others, which all sound similar to *Geordie* but are not the same. 12:24 *Yorkshire* isn't really known for mining, albeit with have done a lot in our history. *Bradford* and *West Yorkshire* in general is known for *Wool.* *Sheffield* is known for *Steel.* *Wakefield* is known for *Coal.* The stone used to build *Manchester Town Hall* and *Bradford City Hall* was mined in *Bolton Woods Quarry* in *Bradford.* 12:27 *Gravy* on everything is more of a *Lancashire* thing than a *Yorkshire* thing. 12:32 *Duck* is used in *South Yorkshire,* however it's mainly used in the counties which surround *Yorkshire* to the East and South like *Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire* and *Derbyshire* the county where it originates. 15:00 *Peaky Blinders* got below average viewing figures until series 5, when *Award Ceremonies which are Picked by the Industry* decided to give it some awards, and *Netflix* started distributing and claiming credit for it outside the UK. However even then the increase in viewing figures wasn't that great, as it still only got a maximum of 5.87 million viewers on average for series 5, yet 7 million is the average for our most popular shows. It's a massively overrated 9/10 show, which was close to being an 8/10 as series 3 and series 6 weren't that good. Also nothing is filmed in *Birmingham* or *London.* Most of the show is filmed in *Bradford* (and *Yorkshire* in general) the world's first *UNESCO City of Film,* contrary to what most people believe. The streets are mainly in *Dudley* and *Liverpool.* The houses are mainly in *Liverpool, Knutsford* and *Port Sunlight.* Their workplaces are mainly in *Leeds, Manchester* and *Bradford.* And things like the prison, hospital, dry cleaners/brothel, hotels, port, cemetery, park, railway station etc are in *Bradford.* Other areas of *Merseyside, Greater Manchester, Derbyshire, Cheshire, North Yorkshire, West Yorkshire* and the *West Midlands* are also used, but as I said, it's mainly indoor locations in *Bradford.* 15:41 *Swindon* is a *town,* not a *city.* The clue is in the name of it's football team - *Swindon Town.*

It's how I know that the majority of the most popular List/Top 10 channels on KZfaq are Canadian, not American, like most people think, at least 20 or 30 of which are owned by WatchMojo. Every single video on the biggest List/Top 10 channels, and information videos about the UK like this, always contain mistakes.

@@robertknight2556 Update, I've just seen that the Learning Canteen have changed their location on KZfaq. They've changed from Ukraine to the United Kingdom in the last month or two, but trust me, it's still run by Ukrainians, as they had British (or people pretending to be British) narrators when their location was still listed as Ukraine. However their address on their website is still the Ukraine, specifically in the city of Sumy. The same goes for Grammarly, the website which claims to be American, yet it was founded by Ukrainians, and was originally located in the Ukraine. I get adverts for it constantly, despite me blocking them constantly, wanting me to use their American spelling and grammar.

@@danielgardecki1046 ...I'm not going to pursue this conversation much further, other than to say that of course there is misinformation, if not plain manipulation, in the media, including you-tube. There is also opinion, which largely makes up the comments on YT, and clearly this can often lead to unmeasured responses, if not downright hostility (or, in my case, condescencion). All of the above is who, for good or ill, we are. You may indeed wish to be rigorous about what is factually correct (but, then, you do also offer opinion); my impression, however, is that most readers simply don't have the tolerance or mental stamina for any comment of some length. They simply move on to the next. I wasn't aware that Learning Canteen was on YT, and had a dip into its contents today, namely on the subject of knife-crime in the UK. Oh dear. You may wish to reply, but I will leave it here. I wish you well. Robert, uk.

@@robertknight2556 What we need is a British WatchMojo which actually uses facts, not made-up nonsense, with people like me working at this new non-existent company. The only proper List/Top 10 channel on KZfaq which is British is WhatCulture, however they've... 1 - Always mainly focused on American stuff. 2 - Haven't been as good since the main 5+ narrators left a few years ago. 3 - Rarely use facts, as it's all about their opinion.

Yea, but you two have been to various parts of England (including York where I live) and you know that there are a multiplicity of accents within the county of Yorkshire alone!
