A few things I'd fix in this video: 1. Please eat the rice with spoon, it's so much easier 2. Gado-gado literally means "to mix", so you should serve it mixed with the sauce or tell them to mix it up themselves for the true gado-gado experience 3. (Edited, thanks for everyone fixing this!) Nasi lemak is primarily Malaysian, but there are places in Sumatra that eats Nasi lemak as well. The video, though, shows a traditional way of serving "Nasi Uduk" or rice dish with variety of sides on it, so maybe it's not the same dish in the video.

Australian guy living in Jakarta here. First thing - Indonesians do NOT use chopsticks. They use them in a Chinese restaurant (just like we might) but otherwise it is always fork and spoon. (Fork in left hand, spoon in right). At home, they might eat with their right hand (and if you go to a nasi padang restaurant, you are expected to eat with your hands). Secondly - Nasi Lemak is NOT an Indonesian dish, it is from Malaysia. Thirdly - the standard soy sauce here is "kecap manis", which is a really thick and sweet soy sauce, with a thickness comparable to Heinz ketchup. The thinner soy sauce that westerners are more familiar with is really not common here at all.

It's getting tired honestly by this obvious ignorance saying that's Nasi Lemak is Malaysian dish. There are other parts of Indonesia where Nasi Lemak has been incorporated into the richness of local culinary heritage. Locals from Medan in North Sumatra, to Riau, Riau Islands and other parts of Sumatra, have enjoyed Nasi Lemak and its other variants through local adaptations. Guess what, ignorance it something we learnt but we can also avoid through simple search in web browser.

for all the indonesians that comments about nasi lemak is not an indonesian food. you guys are wrong. i'm bataknese (an ethnic group in indonesia) and in medan we call it nasi lemak because we have a huge melayu (malay) influence there. since i born and grew up in jakarta, i've tasted nasi uduk and nasi lemak. it has a similar yet still different taste. for example, nasi lemak usually has side dishes like ikan bilis. fun fact, nasi uduk actually was born from melayu people that comes to batavia who integrated with people in java. also, people in sumatra (especially in the northern area) and in riau have more similarities in accent and foods with our malaysian and singaporean brothers and sisters than people in java. so guys please jangan jadi javasentris dan ayo lebih mau cari tau makanan dan kebudayaan serta tradisi dari suku dan daerah lain. but that's okay, it's shows people how big indonesia really is. some of our people don't even know our own foods either 😅😂

Nasi Lemak is Malaysian food. Indonesian food is Nasi Uduk, similar to Nasi Lemak but with different topping and slightly different ingredient to season the rice. The things that makes Nasi Goreng different is the use of kecap, which is a sweet soy sauce. And please let them eat with their hands bcs in Indonesian culture, people eat rendang with their hands, there is even a debate about it. But that police thing with Bakso tho, you did a great research 👍👍👍

- Most of Indonesian foods are eaten using hands or spoons. If you eat noodle, that'd be okay to eat with chopsticks. - When you're eating Gado-gado (mixed vegetables), you're supposed to pour the peanut sauce to all vegetables and then mixed all together - Regarding nasi lemak, if you're visiting northern part of Sumatra Island, possibly you could find one. But most of Indonesians are eating nasi uduk which is different at all in terms of vegetable and meat But more importantly, you should have another episode of Indonesian food. We have so many to offer

Most Indonesians eat nasi with their hands, except for nasi goreng, they use a spoon, always a spoon, because the texture of the rice is dry (using cold rice and fried over high heat).. now, chopsticks.. haiyaaa..... 😂 And be a little bit careful when saying the name of this food: - Nasi Lemak for Malaysia, - Nasi Uduk for Indonesia. Both are exactly the same, but there is a sentimentality between both countries regarding culture.

Well, the fact is that in Indonesia we don't use chopstick that much like other Asian countries. Chopstick only exist in a big city like Jakarta if you go to Chinese restaurant. We prefer a spoon and a fork and even (mostly) using hand when eating, such as Rendang. Even when eating Indomie (noodles) we mostly use a spoon and a fork. So seeing you guys eating Nasi Goreng with chopstick is so funny. But thanks for trying Indonesian food, hope you all enjoy it :)
