A pig in a blanket here in the UK is a sausage (similar to a us breakfast sausage) wrapped in bacon, and theyre christmassy because they are always served with roast turkey on christmas day

Mince pies are a very old christmas tradition. Hundreds of years ago they were filled with a mixture of minced meat (actual meat), dried fruits, booze and spices. Over time the meat disappeared. Some mince pies still contain some suet with the fruit

Stollen is German not British but I love it. Also the icing on the Christmas cake isn’t fondant it’s royal icing which is harder. Christmas pudding should be steamed first 2 hours before eating and doused in Brandy and set alight. Lovely served with clotted cream or brandy butter. Can’t wait to see you trying black pudding but make sure you cook it first. It’s edible as it comes as it’s already cooked but much nicer fried or grilled (broiled). Great fun video. ❤

Glad you finally ate Crumpets the way they're meant to be ate. As I said, THE KING WOULD BE PROUD! Also you don't need to heat up the mince pies, a lot of people eat them cold/room temp. Great video!

My mother used to buy Fry's Chocolate Cream bars 50 years ago, because she claimed that they were only for "grown ups", so didn't have to share them with us kids. At Christmas we bought the more fancy version, "After 8 Mints". These are a box of individually wrapped thin square chocolate mints. That were marketed as a "sophisticated" after dinner mints, but just tasted the same as the Fry's bars to me. PS: Fry's Chocolate Cream bars were first made in 1866, and is the world's oldest chocolate brand.

The Christmas pudding you MUST cook and then before serving (hot) pour brandy over it, and set it alight. You serve to the table in flames, then either wait to burn the alcohol off or put a basin over it to extinguish it... It REQUIRES custard, cream or ice-cream to be served with it...

The raisin obsession comes from that the "empire" produced a lot of grapes, theyre shelf stable for a very long time, it was easy sugar. And that just carried on when we didnt need to anymore

Jason definitely gagged because he thought it was actually meat 😂 traditionally I believe they used to be made with meat however meat hasn’t been used in mince pies for generations. It’s just a spiced fruit pie 😊

Nice to see you eating crumpets properly :) If have some again, try them with some ham and cheese on top, or you could even put an egg on one. Try some with some strawberry jam. I think you will like them. Oh and by the way, the mince pies are way better if you put cream on them or, even better, pour hot custard over them. Cheers.

yeah im starting to notice how others get confused about mince pies usually in britain we have 2 types of mince pies one is the sweet one you tried and the other is just a normal mincemeat pie however there is some sweet mince pies that you can find that have alchahol inside and i barely see anyone bake them and warm them up in britain most people eat them as it is

I’ve seen a 15th century recipe, which is a mixture of meat and spiced fruit. Over the centuries the meat stopped being part of the recipe but the name remained unchanged.

I mean... Christmas cake I eat as a tradition, but actively enjoy Christmas pudding much more. I have a feeling Jason is gonna hate it, since its also super raisiny but also hot raisins 😂 I find it interesting too that you guys find the outlier brands so easily on here. They're the kind of brands you find randomly in garden centre food halls or discount stores, but rarely in say, Tesco. Also, I can feel the sad nostalgia of older Brits looking at that Cadbury selection box and wondering where all the chocolate went.

They get their stuff from British Corner Shop and they have lots of different brands, including a section dedicated to M and S. That's where I get my UK goods too, including as many raisiny products as I can manage because I have an educated palate! ;)

Sidenote, I also find it interesting that you all love the Cadburys. Since Kraft took over Cadbury, it has sunk in popularity in the UK, due to Kraft buggering up the old classic recipe, to be more fatty and sugary and less cocoa-y. I do also wonder if that's why Americans love it still, because it tastes closer to American chocolate now (no shade!) 😅 Classic Cadbury was less sweet and more cocoa-rich. But then, cocoa is hella expensive now which also has a lot to do with shrinkflation / keeping the prices competitive.

Cadburys is still made mostly in Birmingham, Uk and very popular so not sure what this comment is trying to say? Some recipes have changed more to do with cost of ingredients etc… Still one of the best and most popular brands in the UK/Europe/Australia etc

Great redemption with the crumpets! 👏🏻🤣 Also sweet mince pies aren't for everyone, but can absolutely be eaten cold and for the most part are eaten cold. We do also do savoury mince pies which are bigger and full of minced beef and usually onion and gravy.

For Beans on Toast you can also optionally add the likes of HP/Brown Sauce for a different taste, also the likes of Worcestershire Sauce. You can have Mince Pies either cold on their own or hot with Cream/Brandy Cream.. Stollen is actually a German Crimbo Cake at least from memory.. The Fry's Chocolate Cream is the VERY FIRSt commercial Chocolate Bar.

in my personal opinion sour food isn’t very popular in the uk so we tend to make it mild in flavour. Mince pies is normally served warm with some cream love the videos

Mince pies are a mixture of fruits and spices they're always a sweet type of pie. They're not raisins they are currants. We do have super sours but the skittles are it lol. Try the sour sweets in the list below. Barnett's mega sour sweets, Toxic waste mega sour sweets, Tesco's fizzy multicoloured belts, Sour patch kids sweets.

Fyi, the most sour sweets in the world are made in the UK. Mr Simms Black Death. They can only be bought in the UK from the Mr Simms store, but sell out super fast online (so best to get instore) and they don't ship international. There is also Barnetts Mega Sours, which is the former most sour sweet in the world till Mr Simms did their own version

The jellied eel's, im an expert on them lol, i was manager of a fish market in London for 10 years, you will need white pepper and malt vinegar if you want to eat them the traditional way, Also they are one of the most expensive fish pound for pound in the Uk

@@StayBoozie yeah malt videgar and ground white pepper, to eat the eel, it has the bone in, you have to suck the meat of the bone, i like the meat, cant to the skin or the jellie, Its really the older generation that eat tem, the younger dont really eat them, its fading out, and the generations pass, We had an older gentleman come in every week, on firday, buy two pots, we would always say see you next week, he awlways replied lets hope so, you get what i mean, Also the prep for them in this day an age, is not seen as good, the eel's are cut while still alive, for freshness and to stop rigour setting in

Turkish delight is Arabian & the non chocolate version comes lemon flavoured & the origional which is Rose hip Syrup.Micw pies are very old in medieval times they did contain meat with fruit & Spices modern times the meat has gone just fruit & spices.

You can also shallow fry slices of Christmas pudding and Christmas cake in butter. If you can't be arsed to heat mince pies in the oven, then microwave them for around 20 seconds each. Same with Christmas pudding - you can microwave it instead of boiling it and serve them both with either double cream, brandy butter or ice cream - or all three. It's only a once yearly event so your arteries and cholesterol level spike will recover afterwards.

Fry’s chocolate may not be to everyone’s taste but it was the first sold chocolate bar in the world in 1847 so it’s pretty amazing it’s still going and is still so popular!

You did the crumpets justice by cooking them and 100% sourdough crumpets are 🔥🔥🔥 also treeslets are in every household only at Christmas but always gone before Christmas day 😂 you did miss a cheeky Christmas day evening snack sandwich though….mini baguettes cooked fresh in the oven filled with a slice of bacon, brie and a smothering of cranberry sauce 🤤 the perfect end to Christmas day around 8pm as your already dieing from all the other food you’ve smashed in! mince pies don't contain meat...they USED to contain meat...many years ago...and that is where the name came from, we just kept the name for tradition reasons. nowadays they have cooked fruit inside...sometimes they can have alhocol infused in it sometimes not...depends who made them.

mince pies you can eat cold with fresh cream, or you can heat them up and have them with custard... here is one to look for tinned prunes... heat those up and add custard... or whipped cream if you got the balls lol

don't feel to bad about the Christmas cake, i cant stand fruit cakes (the style of cake used with all the raisins), its far to dense and dry for me personally, my family always celebrates with a panettone, and Italian festive Christmas cake/sweet bread.

Awesome you did the crumpets the way the are supposed to be toasted and smothered in butter. As others have said pigs and blankets a staple of any decent Christmas dinner over here. Minced Pies are nice hot or cold when hot serve with clotted cream actually you can do that regardless and no its not mince meat and Mr Kipling tend to be better. They are lovely despite most of the reactions here so well done for enjoying them. Cant wait for the redemption video as well guys keep up the content.
