AIRR Program: Naval Aircrewman Tactical Helicopter (AWR) and Naval Aircrewman Helicopter (AWS) belong to a diverse community that is highly specialized to the platform they are assigned. AWR and AWS Sailors operate various aircraft systems to support Anti-Submarine (ASW), Anti-Surface (ASUW), Search and Rescue (SAR), Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR), Naval Special Warfare (NSW) and Logistic missions onboard MH-60R and MH-60S aircraft. Members also have the opportunity to serve as Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) pilots and payload operators for the MQ-8 (Firescout) variants. Find out more at bit.ly/2Wl5gRs and bit.ly/2MRMZIo.

I’m too old (45), and served in the USMC, but this does look like a rewarding career in America’s Navy. A friend was an aircrewman aboard P-3 Orions and stressed how awesome it was they can’t operate from ships of any kind.

Proud to say my son just completed his requirements for AWS and received his wings and his E4 on 24 February. Impossible to encapsulate his journey in one sentence, but I am in awe of him. #E4LennonThorneAWS

Im not in the Navy but from what I've read you'll fly about once or twice a week stationed and almost every day on deployment. And you can put an a request for AWS or AWR after A school.

@@gbtapps How long are flights? Also what's the difference between AWS and AWR? I know that AWR are mainly sub hunters and AWS is SAR but when you're gong on a average flight who does what? I've read that AWS does alot of taxi for Seals and other spec op units and they also circle the ship so that theres a ready SAR team in case a pilot ejects. What about AWR? Thanks.
@gbtapps

@@nolanfrazier3482 flights can be 2-4 hours but you can land refuel and go back up. AWS is mainly SAR and vertical replenishment but don't think that sierras will get more rescues than AWRs. Many AWS's even the instructors at rescue swimmer school had 0-2 saves. AWR is mainly surface warfare and anti submarine warfare but we are just as qualified in SAR as the AWS's

Ok so is aircrewman another word for AIRR rescue swimmer?
@jokerstein627
@jokerstein627 4 жыл бұрын
Aircrewman is the term for both air rescues and dry aircrewman who man the fixed wing aircrafts. If you’re a good swimmer and love to workout then AIRR is the way to go. If you would rather sit in a big airplane and do mechanical or operational work than dry aircrewman is for you.

In his "regular life"? Being a second class, he's hardly in charge of the aircraft. No wonder he didn't get any job offers out of college.
