I feel like Greg was more of a big brother figure to Amythyst

While this could be true I always saw Greg and Amethysts relationship to be more of a father and daughter one. Amethyst probably only shape shifted into Rose because she thought it would make him feel better. The “I’ve seen your junk before.” Part was easily and most likely just a joke. And I think it’s clear that Amethyst is jealous of Steven and Gregs relationship. Thats why she kept trying to force Greg to watch lil Butler with her.

I think this is true, but I don't think the Crewniverse will go into any more detail about it. I could see it maybe being too mature for the younger audience

I mean, i always thought they had some weird awkward thing before when Amethyst turned into rose and Greg being an emotionally broken man gave in or something? Which is why he reacted in the way he did. Amethyst did say greg was hot (well she agreed)

And I agree, Amethyst has definitely “seen Greg’s junk before.” I think the whole episode of “Maximum Capacity” is dealing with Baggage. Greg was estranged from the Gems early in the series because of the fallout with Amethyst, and his garage was a mess. By the end of the episode though, Amethyst has accepted that she can never replace Rose in Greg’s heart, and even repairs the broken picture of Greg and Rose. The Baggage is now gone, and the garage is clean.

This makes me uncomfortable

I agree with most of this theory but I can't see Greg just making out with Amethyst just because she transformed into Rose especially not after Rose just gave up her life to have Steven it seems to out if his character.

[ Amethyst now has a close hairstyle to Greg back in the old days. The Amethyst everyone knows and loves now has some kind of long hairstyle. And if you look at the old Greg, and compare the two, they have pretty similar hairstyles. Not that this information really matters because i'm just saying what I think should be part of your theory what I mean by I think it should be part of your theory, I mean that it's an extra addition to some more detailed theory, BUTTT!! I think it was a mix of both Rose and Greg. Maybe she was jealous that Greg took Rose's attention and affection from her, while at the same time she was sad that he didn't have feelings for her like he did Rose. So perhaps this was the beginning root of Amethyst's insecurities.

But the problem is that amethyst can’t hold her shape sifting form probably more than 1-2 hours ( in the episode where rubies came back to earth ) amethys needed to shape sift to jasper and go to the moon with them.. it seemed like she couldn’t hold it any longer after the rubies were leaving

Definately sounds more like a fanfic than a theory but surprisingly I'm not oppose to the idea Amethyst might've developed a crush on Greg at some point. I can totally see that happening. But I think it's more likely she shapeshifted into Rose to get back at him for taking up all Rose's attention. She's even stated that Rose was the only one who was ever there for her until she started hanging out with Greg.

This was the episode that really got me into the show. How deep and real this episode got and the fact that Amethyst felt like a re-bound was just all too real!!!

I disagree. First off, Amethyst seems to be ok with Greg's love with Rose based off her statement that their relationship is her favorite,(fusion=relationship) she was curious about Greg as she never has seen humans up close before, she took a father and daughter relationship with Greg and was happy for a time, until Greg hung out with Rose more than her making her feel neglected as those are the 2 she cares about the most and feels the most attached to. Also the "I've seen your junk before" most likely refers to Amethyst catching Greg naked showering at the beach or such and said it as a joke. Finally what most likely happened is that Amethyst used a shape shifted Rose before during a heated argument, after all Greg said "I really want to be FRIENDS again, I really do, but I can't let you do this to me!" keyword being friends, seeing Rose is just disturbing to him period.

I wish this episode did exist. I would love it too. A bit of backstory on Amethyst and Greg would be nice, though Maximum Capacity does it well alone tbh

I have pretty much the sames thoughts about this episode, but I think The Thing happened only once while Greg was drunk. I can't bring myself to believe that Greg could use someone so blatantly.

I think its pretty obvious that Amethist had a thing for Greg, but Greg only wants to be friends. If you look at Amethist's hair pre-Rose and post-Rose -- she changes her hair to look like Greg's hair. I feel like it would be pretty obvious that Amethist doesn't have the maturity to deal with the emotions. It seems like she gains a lot of maturity between the time Greg and Rose were dating and the show starts...

my theory is close to yours, though instead of Amy and Greg doing it often i feel like Amethyst did have a huge crush on Greg and after hanging out for a while, with or without Vadalia and Steven, Amy finally admitted her feelings. Greg then rejects her knowing he could only love Rose, and out of anger, Amy transforms into Rose claiming that she could be just as good as her if not better. Greg sees it as mocking and breaks down finally making Amy feel bad and try to apologize only to be pushed away. as for the cat, never wouldve guessed, seems accurate though. 👌 But the question still remains, when Amythest looks at Steven, does she see Rose like Pearl, see Steven for Steven like Garnet, or does she see Greg?

I mean let’s be real, When amethyst took the form of rose and it hurt Greg... she said he wanted it before. I believe Greg used to ask amethyst to change into rose’s form to feel close to her.. even sleep with her... if I’m pushing it too far. They’d disappear for days on end and no one would know what would happen and she seemed crushed that he didn’t want what she used to offer anymore. She acted very feminine and even seductive when in her rose form... and she only turned into Steven during maximum capacity when he was more focused on Steven and getting to him than her. That might be kind of gross but people are known for dating the best friend’s or even the siblings of dead spouses in order to feel closer to them.

This would be awesome, amethyst liked Greg and pearl liked rose but rose and Greg fall for each other leaving pearl and amethyst alone. Pearl has now fallen for someone else (despite the person being a rose lookalike). Amethyst is alone now and has no one, what is she going to do. Interesting theory. I’ve been a fan of Steven Universe since the beginning and, to this day, Maximum Capacity was always the most confusing episode since I never understood what was going on. Literally everything about the conflict was presented through subtext and subtlety. And no one I knew could really tell me what exactly was going on between Greg and Amethyst

THANK YOU!! No one ever talks about this or has even theorized it yet. From the context clues that we have been given its easy to see that Greg and Amy had a "thing" after Rose gave up her form to become Steven, whether it was physical or just a one time thing. If you are able to put on your "adult-o-vision" glasses it becomes easier to see that, yeah, Amy did the "do" with Greg

I honestly think this has some ground, there are a few similarities between Amethyst and Greg and that could be her feelings for Greg coming through the surface, her hair and affinity for messiness (her room compared to Greg’s van or garage) as well as her rockstar attitude all might be her trying to be more like Greg to get him to notice her, or it could be the years spent with Greg rubbing off on her, either way this was a great theory so keep it up :D

okay I can see her liking him, being his cat for a while, then see him missing Rose and then turning into her the first time in front of him. But that's where I think it stopped, Greg wasn't okay with Amethyst being Rose and demanded her to change back telling her that she could never be Rose, Amethyst being Amethyst didn't stop just to see if Greg would get use to it, but he didn't and that the reason why he says "I know you're doing it, I want to be friends again, I really do, But I can't let you do this to me again." I don't think she was trying to be Steven's mom, I don't think Greg ever kissed her, and I defiantly don't think Greg ever got to a physical relationship with her, Greg said "-I want to be friends again, I really do-" not "-I want to love you again, I really do-" showing that Greg only ever saw her as a friend even if she looked like Rose. If he had kissed her and went further, they would have more awkward moments knowing what they did and there would be more signs of them actually liking each other.

I don't know if this was before the Lar's Head episode but Rose's lion was originally from her pride in the desert. The pride is shown in the episode where Connie and Steven finds the journal. During the episode it shows that they can only die and her tears can save them turning the dead now "living" being into her servant.
