Test the engine on direct natural gas injection or direct propane injection and check the result. Knock can be controlled by variable valve timing.

Is the same engine from slk55 m113 ???

No m113 is 2005-2010 SLK55

M113 is one of the best engines MB ever made.

This M152 is from SLK55 2012+ model year. Only problem with it is cylinder deactivation which causes issues long term. Stick to M113 !

Wouldnt it be more efficient if your shutoff cylinders had the valves still open? And have the exhaust valves open on ever up stroke? So that those cylinders are not compressing anything and would create less drag on the crankshaft.

Nick Palaroan Well they are closed so it would just be pushing near ambient hot engine air air via crankcase gases & rotation so as long as the PCV (valve) is working, the disengaged pistons (probably not just 1 whole bank...) would be like cleaning the engine whilst still being oiled on back & side. Edit: they probably run air through it for a few seconds anyways just to prevent coking and buildup; I assume the tolerances are super critical.

Direct injection is just to ensure that liquid (not combustible) is injected into the cylinders thus limiting its efficiency potential it could have gained from variable valve timing. This benefits the oil companies, not the consumer.
