Evo review of the Lotus was a bit of an outlier. You should watch Harry's Garage for a far more balanced review. The Emira is supposed to be a sporty GT car, a modern Espirit, not a track day weapon like the Exige. Evo totally missed the point on this and did a track test against a GT4.

Not only that Lotus missed things up when they offered a Sport setup with GoodYear tyres, they should have made things simple if you: Reviewing on track: Sport/Cup2 Reviewing on road: Tour/Goodyear That would have made it more sensible

100% with you. And Harry was absolutely brimming with joy driving it on the road. And frankly i trust him by far the most. Just never got why so many people were doing a TRACK test with a ROAD car and then think they can judge it fairly. Makes no sense to me...

The review on Harry's Garage showed the full picture. He drove the track focused one and the one that was more road biased. It was also mentioned (here and on other channels) that this isnt the production car, and as such, things like the infotainment, gearchange and clutch can still be improved.

The Emira is a GT car not a track car. In my mind that means auto box. I’m going AMG DCT. I’ll keep my exige 410 for the track days. Loving this channel.

Echo a lot of the below comments. Harry Metcalfe’s review seems very balanced. Good to hear the comparison between Sport And Touring suspension setups and overall car seems a good option to someone who may be ‘tired’ of the 718 range. Shame the front boot well…isn’t a boot. But car seems well put together (as compared to some older lotus products) modern interior and good engine choice. Hopefully a return to form for lotus.

the thing with the One is, in 2019 when the OPF was introduced they had to develop a complete new exhaust and had trouble getting it legal at all

and the issue is, small Manufacturers don't need to comply with emissions as strictly, so it is way more difficult for Mercedes to do it

You probably ought to watch the Harry's Garage video about the Emira. It explains the situation far better than the magazine-based videos and gives some good context for their opinions. I think the car will be awesome in touring spec, but will fall short in track spec. But then the Cayman leaves me cold, it looks like a frog and belongs in a pond. :)

The AMG One has been in development for so long its already outdated. This smacks of the Jag XJ220 debacle in the 80s, customers promised one thing, got something completely different. Ironically they probably got the better car in the end but everyone, and i mean literally everyone, pulled outta that car because it wasn't what they had been promised

Pro Tip: The online renewal for your UK driving license is a brilliant process. If you have a valid passport it even pulls in that photo for you automatically, it is such a simple way to renew.

I really want the Emira, just seen the GT4 version I need that rear wing on mine! I'm willing to wait for the AMG version, it maybe detuned (still quicker than the manual) but there is no shortage of good places that tune AMG engines.

@@AliasProductions801 and torque, and weight, but that's cars, I loved the exposed shift linkage on the manual, but I think I'll enjoy the DCT and with a decent tune the car will have a really nice power to weight ratio

Sam, if you plan on keeping the car forever - alongside your manual 360 - it would make sense to have a PDK, so you could enjoy both worlds : analog 360 with manual gearbox, and PDK modern car with a crazy reving engine !

I went to Goodwood for 4 days with my family, never again, had a bad back and sore legs for a week after lol. We took a year off before the pandemic hit, last year we went for 2 days, this year just the 1 and probably only 1 day going forward every year we go. Will be keen to see Gordon Murrey’s new car if it’s there.

What I REALLY want is for Gordon to make the T.43 - that would be the true everyman's sports car and the one many of us hoped the Emira would be, but Lotus let us down. Truly light weight and a daily driver - basically an updated Elise. Probably will never happen, but it would be amazing.

The AMG ONE has already been shown late, between the end of 2022 and 2023 Porsche and Ferrari will launch replacements for the 918 and LaFerrari and they will arrive destroying this AMG ONE! What is known so far is that they will have less than 1200kg and more than 1100hp, the AMG ONE is extremely heavy and its performance level is compared to the SF90 which is a production car and not something special in the Ferrari lineup!

I think Lotus Emira with the AMG engine is the one to go for, once you get a remap to plus 470bhp and an Ohlin coil over suspension set up that car will be amazing !

The maths for the AMG One never added up from the day it was announced. It's not exactly a looker, either. Everything on a grand prix car is specifically designed for a grand prix car, especially the engine. Asking it to haul 1.7 tonnes is nuts.

You would love México guys!! 🇲🇽 The car community is awesome, the scenery and food! Although road quality is worse than the UK talking about pot holes, bumps and whatnot. And IT IS dangerous, in the sense that you ALWAYS have to be aware of your surroundings and what specific areas are you are driving into... You don´t want to go in certain places with a nice car. There are a couple of high end automotive clubs which would be perfect for you, but the whole car scene and people are so wholesome.

Emira has got to be the touring spec for the road. And actually I quite like the idea of the AMG 4 cylinder with the dual clutch as it’s more akin to the Esprit with a 2l 4 pot turbo.

I grew up travelling because of my parents. Bali is one of the worst places, unless you surf, or at least you go to the north/east part of the island. Constrained feeling, Crowded, tiny roads, high walls, polluted beaches

Had forgotten about the AMG Project 1. Thought it had been canned as an expensive Covid Project. Anyway hadn't listened to 1 of these for a while and had forgotten how good they can be at times. A friend had ordered a Lotus, but after a while wasn't prepared to wait for 3 or 4 years before his would arrive so decided to get his Deposit returned and buy a N/A 3.8 911 4 GTS instead.

I’m from Mexico City and yes you’re right although there are a lot of amazing natural atractions to see there are some dangerous places specially to visit on a super car road trip because of the cartels but not all places are dangerous and there are some amazing roads you can still drive and enjoy without any risk.

Lets take into consideration that it has 0-300 of 15.6 . Much faster than cars mentioned on list. We also have to wait for independent test on the car as sometimes Mercedes can be conservative with stats. I think this car will deliver around a track against those cars mentioned on the list, it will be like the 918 when it first came out.

I actually saw the AMG-One concept car and looked brilliant, but yes, that was like 3-4years ago. Since then so many things changed and with it not delivering on the aims I agree with you. But the Emira, I think you will like it Sam, because it seems to fix many of the Evora issues while essentialy being the same.

Really enjoyed that! I think the AMG will be more impressive than the stats, something very different to the usual Hypercar and perhaps even better than a 918 spyder. How many times have we seen an underdog at launch become totally desired down the line… I’ve run an Exige 380 for 3 years. The V6 is ok in that, 1100kg, but it’s an old lump and now I own a GT4, the engine is light years ahead. Emira is a good starting point, I’m interested in a lighter more focused variant with the AMG motor, that could be tasty 😋

Fortunate enough to have a PDK winged GT3 and spent time in a Touring manual. Not sure why but I can't imagine the Winged with a manual and a Touring with a PDK. One thing I will say is beg, borrow and steal to get the Carbon brakes.

One thing I’d say is try both before deciding. I ordered my 992 Touring with steels, despite carbon ceramics being available, because I prefer the feel.

Interested in an Emira V6 Touring auto, it’s road car with track capabilities like a Ferrari California...I do 4-5 track days, enjoy blast on Hertfordshire A/B roads...

True. Before, lotus made cars cater for specific person/driver. Emira meanwhile was made so its usable for everyday used. Love it or hate it, that was the recipe lotus needed the reach economic of scale.

Also I think I need to leave Australia the pricing for the Emira First Edition is 3 x the price in UK at $212,000 here and the Cayman GTS is $256,000 with no options. The Australia tax is a killer

I live in America and can tell you that 75% of people who own trucks/pickups don’t use it for anything other than a daily driver. I’ve never understood it.

I will also agree that Harry's review is great of the Emira and as it was said in all of the reviews the car they were driving was NOT a production car it was still a pre production "test and tooling" version. Take from that what you may. Harry loved it so I am with Harry on this. Cheers 🍻

My take on the Emira, based on the reviews i've seen, is that Lotus have done really well. Going up against the Cayman and not falling on your face is a fantastic place to start. They will need to improve the car, but the basis is there. Issue, as described by you guys, is: How many go cold and drop their order now that it hasn't destroyed the Cayman and every other car out there. If they still have enough sales to develop the car, i see a future for the Emira. ..and i do hope there is a future for Lotus, eventhough i'm not a fan of them diluting the brand personally. Lotus, to me, is a mk1 Elise with a K-series engine, or most of the older cars. Simplify and add lightness, yes please

The AMG One turned into a disaster for Mercedes-AMG basically. They burned way more cash than they wanted to and the car doesn't deliver the performance Mercedes and the public was expecting, so it doesn't generate a hype around the brand. It's a nightmare basically and they just had to pull the plug now before it gets even worse

Agreed, but still… imagine complaining about 0-125 in 7 seconds! Most people haven’t ever been that fast in their life, and most owners will either never drive them or pootle around Monaco at 10mph

@@mjrowden sure but the car gets the hype for what it COULD do and not for what the owners actually do with it. So if the car is slower in a straight line and around the track than a SF90 it really “just” has the F1 engine as a selling point and for 2.5 million even a formula one engine makes the price hard to justify
