It would actually be really refreshing for Sam to buy a car that's attainable for most of the audience. Forget £100k+ new porsche, let's have a look at some 25-30k weapons! 😊

@@damirkvajo I get that, but having a 16 minute spin in someone else's car is far from the excitement of it being your own. Ferrari and porsche are literally unattainable to most, and it's much less relatable

Having driven both and owned a C63 there’s a couple of points I’d make. The C63’s gearbox is brisk but only in M mode. Any other mode and the paddle is more of a suggestion. It’s one thing I’ve painfully watched missed by countless motoring journalists since the car came out unfortunately but glad you realised. It does seem like the adaptions need to be reset though. Also they did a Performance Pack Plus option with LSD, which is how I had mine. Better suspension, better brakes and the diff made such a difference to the drive and overall enjoyment of the car. The Audi was slow then and painfully slow now. Much more refined for sure but like most Audis, zero character or soul. The merc on the other hand, I really enjoyed. I am spoiled by having a few more high end cars but hand on heart, I really miss the bark of that 6.2 engine. I think it’s iconic, in the same way the v10 in the m5 was. A 6.2 in a C class is just wild.

To be fair to the C63 that is the last of that generation they came out in 2008, where as the RS4 was the 1st of the new generation from 2012 on. The C63 feels and looks older simply because it's really a generation before the B8 RS4. I had one of them C63 wagons in a 2011 plate and it was a brilliant car back then I loved the thing.

Something to remember though is the RS4 here was a newer generation. The E92 and W204 were from 2007 when the current RS4 was the B7 Having owned a performance pack c63 I can only assume the brakes on the std model weren’t very good. The composite brakes that came on the PP were some of the best brakes going and even stood up to track use despite these not being track cars. I also assume the suspension and set-up on the car driven was perhaps a little tired and needed a refresh as again the PP car I owned was brilliant

The B8 RS4's never feel that quick because of the lack of torque. Lots of them lose power due to carbon build-up on the valves as this is a direct injection engine. Might be why this car felt particularly slow.

@@andreimadalinneagu Haha no if they went that far I'd have told them to clean it anyway to justify the labour costs:). I asked my specialist about it and they drove it. They just said it's not showing any signs of build up and it pulls just like the others they look after (I trust that as they could have easily got themselves a job by saying otherwise). They did say that apparently the B8 is less prone to build up than the B7 but that I should plan to have it carbon cleaned at about the 100k miles mark unless I notice any changes before then. Possibly could need it but I did a timed 0-60 a few months back and did 4.4secs so I don't think it needs it just yet👍. No doubt I'll end up getting it done now to be sure - thanks for the head sup re your S4!

You are quite a smart ass, dude.... And your "explanations" about the Audi V8 engine are pure bullshit! For me as a German, these Audi n/a V8 performance Avants from 14-10 years ago, which is actually the name for these Audis, never felt "slow". Especially you Brits, who in fact have only stupidly low speed limits, really have no fucking clue about being "fast" and don't have the sense of speed with these cars. At really fast conditions on German roads and the Autobahn, Audi V8 models are immensely quick. You These two guys are such annoying and trashtalking clowns... It's really unbelievable 🤦‍♂ I can guarantee you, that this Audi feeks quick! And if it's quick in Germany, it should really be enough speed for the really slow traffic conditions in your country, dude! Greetings from Germany.

I had a 2013 c63 estate for nearly 3 years and it made every journey fun. Yes it’s far from perfect but that sound, which by the way on some downshifts when you catch at the right revs is so satisfying with the cracks, and the rear instability makes it. I haven’t much experience of newer semi autos, but I found it fine once used to it. The car also generally gets the right attention as it’s the estate and not a more obvious c63 like the saloon and the coupe. Good review though and can see your points.

@@Arman-nl6mg both of mine (1 year in each, separated by 5 years) have been faultless. I'm probably going to sell mine soon. But, no idea what to get. I discounted getting a C7 RS6 as it's too quick for UK roads. Sub 4 to 60, is just frustrating in this country. The B8 RS4 is sub 4.5. Put your foot down in dynamic / s, and it's fast enough. Too fast really. I just love it. No DRC issues, gearbox all good, diff, no issues.

That generation of C63 came out in 2008 and while it did get a refresh in 2011, the bulk of it is still 17 year old technology, where as the B8 RS4 first came out in 2012. Also you drove the RS4 in dynamic mode and pretty much drove the C63 in comfort mode for the whole test drive, which is why the gearbox is was slow. you should have been driving it in sport plus or manual mode for manual gear changes. The W204 & w205 C63 up to 2019 have the exact same gearbox

Dynamic Ride control (DRC) is pneumatic suspension with cross linked dampers, it's not magnetic ride which is a different system. The original DRC system was plagued by weeping shocks and valves however gen 2 dampers were better. Biggest problem is owners never had DRC serviced which is why some of them went wrong. Anyone with a DRC equipped car over 3 years old and out of warranty would be mad to take it to Audi to service fix / repair, £6k at franchise is more like £2k at an independent that has the DRC pressurisation tool so same price at a Ohlins or decent Bilstein kit. Going into 'dynamic' opens exhaust valves, sharpens throttle / steering responses and gearbox shift, no suspension travel change on DRC. Biggest Achilles heal of the B7 and B8 RS4's is whilst the engines sound glorious and revvy, they are torque light so don't expect to get anywhere quickly. Best modification to give it personality, get an exhaust, just not Milltek! Great video as always Gents!
@alexanderreay-glover6970
@alexanderreay-glover6970 3 ай бұрын
I went for Bilstein B16s which are adjustable but manually on the shocks themselves. The suspension stiffness did change between comfort and dynamic with DRC but it was too soft in comfort and too stiff in dynamic (The difference is way too much for British roads), so rather than fixing I went for aftermarket. It was the front two shocks that were leaking. The problem is that once one part of the DRC fails the rest likely follow. Rides much better than even when the DRC was working as it should.

@@nonamenameless5495 Yeah for sure. I got the suspension kit off eBay for £1560 (brand new) and it was fitted for £830. That included geometry, removal of all the DRC (pipes etc not just the shocks) and coding the car to make it think it never had DRC. So total was £2,390. Definitely worth shopping around as my first quote was £3,500 (for exactly the same suspension kit). Only other mod is I put an Apple CarPlay kit in it (£200 on eBay and took me 20 mins to install - forgot to tell them that!). Glad you like the car!

@@alexanderreay-glover6970 interesting as on the B7 RS4, only Ohlins Stasis rode better than the DRC albeit it had one setting only, I ended up going back to it after fitting several aftermarket kits including Bilstein and KW. If it’s regularly maintained and serviced DRC is fine, problem is most Audi franchise don’t know what here doing which is where the problems arise! With any Audi RS, a good local independent should always be sought, especially one with the DRC tools!

I’ve removed the mini silencers on my rs4 which definitely livens the v8 up but not making it too Leary. Not quick but means I can rev it out to over 8k and not lose my license - came from 991.2 gts which was crazy torquey but for me too quick for uk roads. Rs4 just way more useable and DRC actually a decent system (just need to service it). High revving, naturally aspirated v8, what’s not to love (apart from crazy high road tax!). I think exhaust valves shut on start up whatever the setting but valves open up if you put it in sport mode or go above 4k. Plus I’ve put EBC discs on them vs OEM and they are awesome.

So much better format than the first episode albeit I still miss the variation in terms of topics...but hey, great episode with 2 great cars, really enjoyed it! The era between 2005-2016ish is what made me love Audis- understated exterior and best in class interior with the best haptics... I d go as far and say, my favourite interiors to date and a main reason why I still rather want this generation than anything newer (B9 is also nice but that s basically the oldest layout Audi has on offer but the exterior of the B8s was cleaner). Exterior wise Audi totally lost me in terms of their newer cars, these horrific fronts looking like they had a swollen mouth wearing braces or the gloss black or even worse cheap looking silver accents. Meanwhile, Mercedes lost a lot of ground in terms of interior quality in the early 2000s and AMG went down a too extroverted and lairy route for my liking. What I ll never get is so many ppl incl. you guys being so fond of BMWs recent interiors...my sister has a 2023 X3 6 pot diesel and just for the interior alone, I just hate it with a passion and the one in the newest 3 series is almost as bad...Would rate it by far the worst of modern interiors of the German big 3...but hey, I despise all the newer interiors with too many screens and I bet they ll age extremely poorly.

I live up in the hills, lots of narrow roads that an RS6 is just too big for, you're pulling into passing points with stone walls you want to fit into comfortably, for that reason I'd much rather an RS4 to an RS6, it just fits B-Road life much better.

What would have been really fun, was if you both jumped into a M340i after the C63.

Yeah and it makes a big difference. Not quite as instant as a DCT still.

For me C63 any day. The interior looks older, but imo that´s a good thing it ages better. The engine and sound are what sets it apart to me. Also the boxy exterior design works really good. Gearbox is trash though

About the harsh ride in the c63, the RS4 has Bilstein. Would an Bilstein on the c63 be as good as in the RS4?

Had a 15 plate B8 RS4, loved the styling like Sam. Good bits: Comfort, built like granite, sounds mega on down shifts. Bad bits: Steering is appalling, stick it fast into a bend and it goes from light to heavy leaving it very hard to position accurately. Gear box is asleep until you pin it, it then drops down too many gears and it's like an out of control elephant. In the wet on a round about it goes from rapid understeer to oversteer. Servicing, fuel and road tax are all out of control. Total oxymoron, you'd be better off with the bi-turbo diesel A6 Avant. Just as fast etc and cheaper to run.

I thought a 2013 C63 AMG was expensive, being almost the last year with the big NA V8. I have just looked at a 13 model C63 saloon with only 30000 km on the clock, Japan import, looks like a new car! But here in my country, its quite some money asked for it, 730000 kr/£53200. Was thinking of trading my ultra low mileage (8000 km) 2010 Mustang Roush Stage 550hp/700nm #79/103 made in total. But this review has slightly changed my mind🤔🤔

Get the W205 C63 with twin turbo v8, much more fun and does everything better then the W204 model.

audi's V8 has always been notorious for feeling slow, despite it being dynamically better the C63'S heart (the 6.2 N/A motor) wins it for me. if you always wanted an old style american muscle car but wanted a better built more modern interior with great reliability and be slightly understated then this car is a modern equivalent. as a daily the audi hands down wins (its a great car) but as something for an occasion the mercedes puts the smile on your face everytime and after all this is what im looking for in an older car like this.

For me the new 2024 RMR concept would work better as a maximum 15 min per vehicle video, and as a supplement to a shortened BTG podcast or a separate series to the regular BTG content, rather than a direct substitute. Gets boring fast otherwise.

Dodge offered the 2014 dodge magnum srt-8 then and cadillac offered the cts-v wagon 6.2L v8 from Gm that was the American made estate cars of the time. Rs4 is the better choice out these two but the amg dose sound better 😊

A remap would sort the RS4 out, wouldn't need to be a stupid remap but a subtle tune would make a difference I feel.

This segment would’ve been sown up if BMW did an E91 M3 touring. It would’ve driven properly with a proper dct or manual, look and sound great and practical. IMO the Audi is boring and the Mercedes seems unfinished, but the engine is magic
