Aaaaand the Warriors just waived Chris Paul. This eliminates his salary from being traded for a star but reports say Andrew Wiggins could be traded and they can now use the full $13M MLE to sign a free agent. Chris Paul is joining Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs. 1 year, $11M.

Why is Klay upset that he is not priority? I mean, he has been severely injured twice and missed years of play and still got paid. This year he was hot and cold, hot and cold. Clearly, he is not the go to guy anymore. I remember him saying he'll take whatever role to stay with this team. He ought to know ny now, this is a business. I would not give money to someone who can't perform as I expect them to.

The GSW players of that era had it so unbelievably good, not only was their team more overloaded than any team ever has been, but their contracts were all excellent and the biggest sacrificial contract lamb was Steph Curry who also makes by far the most money of all of them on non-NBA deals. Not only Klay but probably a half dozen people at least have been getting carried by Curry and getting overpaid since KD left, Klay being by far the most extreme example of not providing any value to the team but being paid like he's still part of the championship roster. It's precisely because of paying Klay Thompson that Steph Curry is completely unable to even compete for a championship because the money that should be paid to the second best player who helps him like Kyrie and Luka, or LeBron and AD, or Jokic and Murray, or literally any successful team in the NBA in the history of NBA, but instead he has hobbled and crippled Klay Thompson who stopped being worth paying when his agility fell off a cliff. The Klay Thompson era was amazing, but it's over, it's been over for years. He is the one ripping off the GSW, not the other way.

The saddest part about this, is it shows that Curry and Klay aren’t nearly as close as they used to be, and that’s why it’s the end of the splash brothers. They went from being almost equals, to it becoming Currys team after Klay got injured and KD left for Brooklyn. It seems like ever since then, Klay has been bitter about his role on the Warriors, and how the fans were perceiving him. He went from being praised alongside Curry, to constantly being questioned, and I think now he feels he needs to prove he can win without Curry, similar to how KD felt.

This could be a mutually beneficial situation. Thompson could find a place where he fits better and can utilize how limited he is. The Warriors can try again in 2025-26 to try to contend, while this year they just kinda wing it with depth.

As a dubs fan, Klay can walk, maybe get some draft capital or a solid rotation big with cp3 contract. With them out the way, Kuminga can really shine, I'm talking 25 PPG. Podz and TJD also take the next step into legit starter roles, and we bring in KCP & Hartenstein esque players to fill out the rotation.

@reach4716

But why would Klay be disappointed? I mean, despite his significant injury in 2019, GSW showed faith in him by offering him a five-year, $190 million max contract, even though they knew he couldn't play a whole season the following year and had no assurance he'd be the same again. It turned out he got injured again the following year and missed another whole season, not playing for two seasons, yet the team still respected him and offered their support. To be fair, Klay doesn't necessarily deserve a max contract right now. I mean, he deserves it because he's part of the core, but how he played last season was clearly a sign not to give him the max at this time. He knows it, and the team knows it-they are the most expensive team in the NBA, yet they didn't make it to the playoffs, which is absurd. The team needs more help in scoring, and they need more cap space to do it. The team supported him during his downfall, and now they need him to accept that this is the reality-they're struggling, he's struggling, and he's not the same anymore due to that worst injury of his.If I were the GM, I would also think twice-unless they don't want to win another championship. Klay's options depend on what his priorities are and how he views it at this moment. Would he accept whatever GSW offers him because he wants another championship, another shot at glory, and is willing to take a step backward for the team? Or does he want to earn more, in which case another team would undoubtedly love his services and would likely offer him the max.
