I liked your presentation. On additional piece of info that may be helpful is that it was Spanish records that were so rather obsessive about the numerous racial categories, not Mexican records. On establishing the Mexican Republic, all those official distinctions went away. Mexico was formed, at least in a constitutional sense, a society without racial barriers and distinctions. Everybody was Mexican, no matter what color or ethnic background. This is apparent looking at the Spanish Census of 1790 and the Mexican Census of 1823 which are also of enormous value in family history work in New Mexico. One additional resource is the documents surrounding land grants or mercedes that list founding members of community grants. I have located and learned context from these documents on many lines of my family in New Mexico.

Coyote in old New Mexico means 3/4 Indian 1/4 European mestizo means 50/50 European and Indian and Gurule is a hispanicization of a French last name its pronounce Guru-lay not Guru-lee
