Punjabi vs Persian language challenge! Amandeep from India says words in Punjabi and I say words in Persian then we see how many words each of us got right! We also came across a few similarities between Punjabi and Persian.
Punjabi is an Indo-Aryan language spoken mainly in Punjab region of Pakistan and India. It is also widely spoken in Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Delhi.
Persian is the Indo-Iranian branch of the Indo-European language family. It is primarily spoken in Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan.

Awesome video, Amir. You should try and use more diverse words because basics like colours usually are the same in urdu and punjabi. The difference doesn't become clear. Maybe you should use more object names. Also, I am always left wanting for a longer video. But of course, i know that you can't make your videos too long. Maybe you can add a little bonus round at the end of about 1 min or 30 secs where you and the other person say words out loud together for words that are same in both languages and we get to hear difference in pronunciation. You can edit it to fit into 30 secs. You can probably google and find out which words are common between the two languages to save time

If you think about it, a lot of the words in Farsi that aren't derived from Arabic are quite similar to Sanskrit words. For example, "kaar" in Farsi would be "kaarya" in Sanskrit/standard Hindi; the suffix "-stan" from Farsi is a cognate of the suffix "-sthaan" in Sanskrit. Perhaps in most cases it's not close enough for one to be able to accurately guess the meaning as the languages split long ago, but the similarities are apparent.

Teeth in farsi is also called dandaan quiet similar to punjabi dand and sorkh in old farsi is also used to denote warmth that is why in hindi we also say sorkh laal rang hai ( the colour is deep red) takht in old persian was used for a seat that was to be respected like the seat of a monarch. Doorbeen in old farsi is also used for a telescope, literally means something used to look at objects far away.

Punjabi is actually the most directly decended Indian language from Sanskrit and both ancient Persian/Avestan and Sanskrit are actually regarded as dialects of the same language, much the same way as Doabi, Majhi, Potohari, Puwadhi and Dogri are some of the dialects of Punjabi. So many words in Punjabi sound like they come from Persian but actually come from a common origin in both modern Persian and Punjabi, I believe the linguistic term is Cognates. So Punjabi and Persian actually share a lot of cognates. Some of the cognates actually change their meanings slightly in both languages for example Surk in Persian means red and Surki in Punjabi means red powder.

I wonder that do indian punjabis know that there are alot of different punjabi dialects in west punjab and not a single standard dialect sometimes it's very hard to understand in fact the dialect they use in indian punjabi movies is very different for us often times i can't understand some words but i think it must be different in how people speak in real life i think in movies they try to use the standard or preferred way of a language maybe idk any punjabi brother would want to clear?

Good effort !! But U missed one main thing !! Supposedly iranian guy asked sourkh, so after guessing u wrote on screen the english meaning red.... but u should have also asked what do i say sourkh in punjabi..... This punjabi guys punjabi was not that good... i would have guessed it and told u that we also say suurkh or laal.... like u asked takht(bed) , we also use the word takht in our village(my grandmother, etc) for bed.... Like we call madrassaa a common word for muslim school..... This guy had limited punjabi exposure.... One of the pakistani brother in the comments section has said that if a pakistani punjabi was there he would have guessed.... but if an our punjab(in india) guy could also have guessed many of these

Our ancestors from Punjab spoke Persian (Farsi) as one speaks English now. A language of median. Speaking Farsi was as normal as it got, our Gurus also spoke Farsi. The vocabulary has stayed in Punjabi. Unlike in Hindi words have become Sanskritised after the end of the Mughal empire and since Independence (post 1947). Punjabi has kept its original vocab. But what we don’t speak is Arabic, words such as teacher ‘Mo’alem’ is Arabic and not Persian. Only Persian words were brought with the Mughal conquests. But of course the older bazurg generation would understand Muslim derived words from Arabic like Madrassa, though the young Punjabi generation wouldn’t. So talking about Persian vocabulary yes, talking about Arabic words relating to religion no. Unless you’re Pakistani Punjabi. There’s a funny saying my grandparents told me, when someone local (Punjabi) didn’t understand you say something, you’d respond with ‘I’m not talking in Farsi’ 😁

This language of all (punjabi) will be the easiest (I think) since researchers believe that romani comes from indian language (which language exactly they don't know) "derakht" means grape easy, same in romani (kinda but no "t"), (it meant tree which is kinda similar "kasht") Moalem, "I died"? (molem, in romani) "tund" tooth? (nvm, was thinking of both the swedish word for it, tand) "madrese" probably means mattress I don't know what kabotar is Idk what a ensaan is is paani white? Parni in romani, water in romani is paji kaar sounds like a bad word in romani dund also sounds like teeth

True some farsi words have expanded meaning (in poetic sense) when used in Hindustani(Urdu/Hindi).Like Khoobsurat becomes anything that is beautiful like in khoobsurat parinda or khoobsurat comment. Similarly, manzil is not just house but something like the destination. like some lover telling : aap ki manzil ho main, meri manzil aap hay (i am your end goal and you are my end goal. Actually, in this case its not easy to translate this to English).
