Today we try the language challenge Urdu vs Farsi (Persian) and came across many similarities between the two languages. This maybe due to the fact that both Urdu and Persian are classified as Indo-European languages.
Persian is mainly spoken in countries like Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan while Urdu is primarily spoken in Pakistan and parts of India, Bangladesh, Nepal, the Middle East.

In Turkish, dar means thight and we called "dar" so same sound, we called çehre for chehra, we called zemin for zameen, we called tamam or tamamiyle for tamaam, we called bağ for bagh. Pronouns are almost the same. If a Turkish hears, he can easily understand. Love from Turkey:)

@City Skyline urdu was made the national language due to two main reasons. 1. Pakistan is home to 72 languages and had we taken the largest language i.e: Punjabi it could have been seen as a sign of favouritism so Urdu was chosen. 2. Historically Urdu was seen as the language of the muslims of the subcontinent as even though the muslims didn't create it, it was because of them that urdu rose in popularity thus making it the official language of a state in the subcontinent which was now home to majority of the muslims of the subcontinent was the only sensible thing to do

Urdu and Persian seem to be equal because Hindi and Persian are mixed in Urdu. At one time Persian was the official language of India. So there are many Persian influences in many languages of India. Persian and kashmiri are so similar, it's almost scary(in a good way). Sometime back i was watching a farsi movie and i could make out some of the phrases they were speaking, to the point where they sounded almost kashmiri, even the inflection. It was so cool. At one point in the movie the protagonist is out side the door of his ailing father and is screaming 'baba darwaz khol'. It's basically kashmiri. Awesome.

But in Urdu, people do say "Kaam Tamam" meaning "Work is finished/ended/done" (Kaam = work) Funny thing is in Bengali, we use the word "Khushki" to mean "dandruff" or "scurf", i.e. flakes on skin surface (it was probably adopted because it's caused by the dryness of skin).

This is wonderful! I am Kashmiri Hindu from India, and we have a common word in Kashmiri and Persian- cloud(obur in Kashmiri and abr in Persian) Kashmiris say Khoshki for dryness. :) Also, our elders say "sabz" for green and "syah" for black haha. One more word- hendvyend in Kashmiri and hendvaane in Persian for watermelon. Nafar(someone or somebody in Kashmiri and I guess it is same in Persian too) Kooshish(meaning to try or create an effort; same in Persian lol) Aab (river water in Kashmiri and water in Persian) Cheshme(in Persian meaning spring or a water body) Kashmiri- Cheshm I could recall only these but there are many more too! :)

Tamaam doesn't mean a lot, it means everything. Also, the meaning of "end" is also correct in some contexts. For example "iska kaam tamaam" means he's "done for" or he’s “ended”

LOL.... Amir jan is right about the meanings of تمام (end/complete) and آرام (slow). In Urdu پلہ means scale (میزان) but is also used for stairs in literature; کفش is also used in proper Urdu. May be Bahador jan can correct me. This is fun :) and Canada is cold :p
