We've figured out how long we can go past the best before date on different cereals. The simpler the cereal (like Cheerios original) the longer it lasts past the best before date. We just ate up Honey Nut Cheerios that were close to 18 months past and you'd never have known it. We do keep our food stuff in a dry, dark, cold room we built so they never get heat or light exposed and I think that helps the longevity. There's very little that you have to consume right by the best before date and that's mostly things that are oily or flavoured like fancy crackers.

I shop at the country salvage (Amish) outside of Arthur, IL. As usual you find surprising deals. Yes prices are rising everywhere! The salvage store has helped us survive.

We have several of these Amish stores in my area. We save a ton of money this way. They even have makeup, etc.

If canned goods are close to the exasperation date you can open them and put them in freezer containers and freeze them,or you can open them and put them in your dehydrator that way they will last a lot longer
