I can’t imagine having so many animals just because I want one in every color. If I really wanted that, I’d get stuffies of them and display them on a shelf or something

I remember my grandma was a hoarder when I was growing up. I understood where she came from. She grew up in the Great Depression and they had to save everything. When she died we got rid of all the junk in the house and made a bon fire. We live in a rural area where open burning is allowed. She even had food in her freezer that was over 30 years old!

My mum was a hoarder. Loved her stuff more than she loved us. One of my siblings now lives with a hoarder. He (the hoarder) quite openly criticized my mother & her hoarding, and felt my dad should have done something to stop my mother buying stuff. Then, when I visited my sister at her home I was amazed to see all the stuff stored in the house and around the outside of the house.

My mother has always been kind of a hoarder. Usually she loves to buy clothing and house decorations from thrift stores. We even had a large storage building of it all packed floor to ceiling. Haven't spoken to her in years due to a just really sad and complex series of events that ended in a self defense un-aliving of her former husband. So I have no idea if she is still sitting on all of that junk. Sadly though I have my own problems with this as well. But that's because I have always had a bit of a complex about letting go of things. Even things like broken appliances and toys and what have you. That's it's own long story. But I do try to clean it out when I can, just for my own mental health.

Im always fighting to not fall into the same hording behavior my mom had and its a massive struggle. I'm not quite as connected to stuff. But i just dont know how to clean and organize because of her.

Oh, story 7. How I wish I didn't relate to you. My grandma has recently moved from a very large house to an apartment and I don't even know how much trash there was. It took maybe... 3-4 months worth of working on moving out which means that her apartment basically has close to no room, our (already messy) house also has things from her old home... FOR HER TO GO THROUGH... also did I mention it's soon a month after the move was finalized? I'm not sure it's hoarder, but she's slow and basically doesn't go through her stuff unless we're there. I just pray we're able to walk in our house like normal at some point this year and maybe even make it less messy, hell maybe she'll be done this year. Granted, at least the 3 containers worth of stuff we threw away during the moving process isn't still here or I'd be crying. Just had to type that out, have a wonderful day/night/time of day if you read this.

My mother was a hoarder, and I know myself, and my daughter, have these tendencies too. Mum lived with us for 18 years and filled a room and a garage with stuff. I had to go thought the garage and get rid of, or move everything from it to my house so I was not paying for it any more when she died. I'm trying to go through and get rid of so much stuff. One room is unusable at the moment, the loft, and a small shed are full too. I'm working on another room, getting rid of books I'm never going to look at again etc. Daughter collects anime merch, and won't get rid of the boxes, so we have to store them all too, somewhere. I'm also a crafter, and it's so hard getting rid of bits of fabric, cones of yarn etc.

My late mother was a bit of hoarder. She had nearly 3 cupboards filled some tinned food, dried goods (IE pasta), spices and herbs that was out of date. Like between 2-20 years out of date. A good chunk of the herbs and spices were either still good to use and the rest was either 3 years old or 20 years old. She had 3 to 7 storage bags, a chest of drawers and 2 closets filled with her clothes and she only used half or so of her clothes. When my dad and I emptying the large closet that was in the family room, there was so much clothes that was hanging on the railing that it was bending to the weight. After we emptied it, there was mold from not being aired out.

117 cats is just too many, even if they were living in the countryside with plenty of space. That must have been horrendous for all involved except for the mother who clearly didn't care about the well-being of her children or those poor animals.

18:48 This story is basically me except more extreme than my story. I don't hoard or anything, but many times something that went missing was thrown away or sometimes donated, and it was my fault because I "clearly didn't miss it enough to notice it when it happened", as if I need to daily keep an inventory list of every possession I have at 12 years old. And it became the punishment for anything I did wrong, which was pretty much everything since I was "strong willed" and that was a no-no. If I disagreed it was an attitude I needed to fix, and then if I got angry for being wrongfully accused of having an "attitude", it was "proof" of how awful of a kid I was. If she pushed me(literally pushed) to the counter to force me to order before I had decided at a fast food place, I would protest saying I wasn't ready yet and that of course was awful behavior of me because I was "making her look bad in front of everyone". Nah, she did that easily enough herself.

There's a youtube channel called Midwest Magic Cleaning. He cleans up hoarder houses for free. It's a pretty cool channel

Hording is not something you should forgive. If someone legitimately won't part with garbage for the sake of their family. They don't deserve family. I know what it's like to quit opioids. I know what it's like to leave the woman I literally stood infront of a knife for. Hording is not even close. Weak people don't deserve other people.
