Let's be honest here, if you eat out, you have to 100% accept you're inevitably going to end up eating some nasty crap and you won't even be aware of it. Someone could've dropped your burger and you wouldn't know as you sit there enjoying every bite

Exactly. I worked at McDonald's as a teenager, and I can't tell you how many times I accidentally knocked over the little tongs you use to pack hash browns. It's common practise to pretend you're going to wash it up, wipe the tongs on a dry towel, and go right back to packing the mass made potatoes with the greasy, dirty floor tongs...

If youve done fast food multiple times in your life youve eaten someones ( i will be nice lol) bodily fluids youve eaten insects rodent waste and so on wether it be purposely or accidental. I started at mcd's at 15 became a manager at 18 ive worked bk ,wendys, kfc, taco bell, a&w, long johns and even a krispy kreme. Im retired now for 6 months in my 30 year managerial career i fired 20% of employees for sending out contaminated food and even had 2 arrest for putting reproductive fluids in food and 6 arrested for putting feces in food. The sad part most where over 20 and female. The worst of it all all of the arrests were within the last 5 years. Theres so many young adults that have no morals and are so vendictive.

@@mauriceb3135 I guess it really just depends on staff and the employees you have working. I worked for my uncle in his Italian restuarant when I was 15 for a week or so. I'd say he'd absolutely not allow anyone to do anything to his food to ruin it, or make it unsanitary. The most unsanitary thing we did (which wasn't ok in my opinion) was picking up the salad out of the salad bowl and throwing all the ingrediants to the salad on with our bare hands. Like say you just got done doing dishes, My uncle: "Go make a salad to go.". I wash my hands REAL QUICK then go grab your salad with my dirty hands. I honestly felt bad every time I was doing it, and I had already knew before I tried working there that a restuarant/fast food isn't where I want to be. It's not like I just wiped my own ass with my hand, but I just don't think it's ok to be touching other peoples food no matter how clean your hands are.

I've worked a couple of food service locations (namely a movie theater and a convenience store). Avoid fountain drinks if you can. Those nozzles and hoses get absolutely disgusting, and not every place cleans them. The theater I worked was really meticulous about it, but I had to teach the manager at the convenience store how to disassemble the nozzles on their machine so it could be clean. The amount of black gunky buildup we found still haunts me.

I used to work at Panda Express. Don’t order the brown rice unless you come within a half hour of opening. It sits in a steamer all day and it’s very rare that we have to make another batch the entire day, and more often than not, we have to throw out at least a quarter of the pan at the end of the night. The fried and white rice is made constantly throughout the day though so those are safe. Also the honey walnut shrimp is best ordered during a rush

I worked concessions at Cinemark before the pandemic. It wasn't my favorite place to work but I will have to say it was very, very clean. We painstakingly pulled apart all the pop machines and Starbucks stuff that were used that day and everything was washed and sanitized. The nozzles even pulled off, washed and sanitized, every night. The popcorn used that day was always thrown out. There was a cleaning crew that come in after the theater closed and clean the poppers. The hot dogs and pizza were thrown out after sitting for 2-3 hours, that's why sometimes the hot dogs aren't ready, they need to be cooked. Nacho sauce was "rotated" so it wasn't sitting long. The hot dogs warmers were cleaned and sanitized every night. The popcorn shovels were washed and sanitized every night, as well anything used for ice cream. If we dropped something it has to be immediately replaced with a clean object or washed and sanitized. I never work at a Cinemark with a bar but I'm sure that is kept to the same standards.

As a type 1 diabetic, and active person who likes to be healthy, it seems to come down to poorly managed diabetes is bad for your heart health, and increases the risks of strokes and circulatory problems, being inactive does the same, and having a diet which is high in unhealthy fats sugar and salt does too, which means that if one doesn't have type 1 (or type 2) diabetes, one can probably eat more junk if one is the kind of person who doesn't feel right if they aren't being active frequently enough to be able to enjoy the sense of feeling fit (which is always easier if one eatsnhealthily).

Yeah my boyfriend who used to work at McDonald's for almost 5 years says they all hated it when customers asked for no salt on their fries and then asked for salt on the side. He just says to ask for fresh fries if you want them, but be nice about it I, however, just hate salt with a passion, so I get both my burgers and fries there without salt. If you order food from Marco's Pizza, don't get anything with salami. That stuff was used so rarely that it would often spoil, and we'd forget to switch it out. Many of my coworkers didn't even check if it went bad before putting it on the food (workplace morale was dangerously low). So unless they've changed their menu and use salami as an ingredient more often than in 2017, stay away from the salami.

I think the Japanese fast food one with the Volcano roll was Sarku. There was one at Ft Campbell back when I was in the Army, and the person described it pretty well: casual Japanese fast food, kinda like the Panda Express of Japanese food, but still fairly more accurate to Japanese cuisine than Panda Express is to Chinese). I liked their shrimp and chicken teriyaki (both meats, grilled in front of you while you watch behind plexiglass). The polynesian manager there knew me because my ex wife and I would go there fairly frequently. So he'd always ask something like, "Extra teriyaki as usual, bro?" to which I'd say hell yeah, and he'd squirt extra teriyaki on the meat while it was cooking and mix it with the rice. They're not the same quality you'd get from an actual sit down Chinese restaurant, but they're damn good if you're in a rush and just want a quick bite.

For ANY Pizza restaurant If you are choosing an item from the menu, dont buy it as is. Add something like "I would like that with extra cheese" or "Can you add some extra mushrooms" In these cases, attention to preparing the pizza is more than twice than that of a 'normal' pizza Bonus, it tastes better too

Former fast food worker here, McDonald's is typically safe especially if the manager is engaged with things, but if you go to (a smaller) Pizza Hut, be wary of the large pan pizzas. Let's just say that not enough space airing out pans and some workers being impatient or not caring has made me suspicious of pan pizzas even if I were the one scrubbing them. It was typically easier to air out the personal pans and breadstick pans because those two can be stacked to give enough airflow, but most of the pan pizzas we made weren't personal pan size. Also the people who say that not wearing gloves but washing more often is cleaner are on the money. Only wear gloves if you have to handle ready-to-serve food without tools, if you have something bleeding or suspicious (like a rash) on your hand, or you would otherwise be in trouble with customers or (less likely but still happens, especially if the former happens) management. Gloves are a breeding ground for food (crucially, potential allergens) to build up and sweat to build up inside. It's quicker and cleaner to wash hands for 30 seconds and get back to it than it is to spend an extra 45-70 seconds throwing away gloves and getting a new pair with a wash between those steps.

It wastes so much product and slows down their flow to seperate so many extra eggs when they had 15 tickets on the line. Honestly. I know it’s technically healthier. As a customer I figured out if you and someone else want two regular (6in) subs from Jersey Mikes (or other sub restaurants) that are the same type of sub, you order 1 giant (foot long) and ask for them to have half the sandwich be the way you like and the other half to be the other person likes and if it is to go you can ask for them to pack it separately (I have never had someone say no but there is a chance). The cost in the end will be cheaper then buying two sandwiches which will be the same size anyway. This could also be done with with 2 minis (kids) as a regular or any combination.

Bojangle’s food, every one that I worked in had out of date appliances, roaches even in the safe, electricity issues, sewage issues, one manager didn’t like ordering cleaning supplies because it made the restaurant less profitable. So having your employees play slip and slide on a floor with chicken grease, and water was preferable. But hey that particular manager was also abusive to her employees, hitting them, cursing them out etc.

I used to be a waitress at a open 24 hours waffle house style diner. Not actually waffle house, just similar. Avoid places like that in general. The dishes get dipped in warm soapy water (no actual scrubbing went on that I ever saw), get a rinse and then tossed in a "sanitizer" that only made the dishes really warm so it felt like they had just come out of a dish washer. Also the dish water at the diner I was at was really only replaced 3 times a day. Once after breakfast hours, once after lunch hours, and then once after dinner hours. Although a lot of the time the water would really only be topped off with a fresh squeeze of dish soap and a little hot water instead. I will never eat at a place like that ever again and if that's how it's done at all those places, I'm legit shocked I avoided all manner of deadly infections.

When I was at Taco Bell I'd usually default to dish washing because I enjoyed it also no one else did it properly. They would drop the pans in the water, which would be brownish towards the mid/end of the day, wait a minute then throw them in the sanitizer and put them up with food still caked on the side. I was one of the few who'd actually wash them properly. Rinse excess food out, put it in the sink for five minutes (doesn't require 5 but just being safe), rinse the remainder in the middle sink, sanitize for five minutes, then hang up. You can tell when I did the dish. Coworkers complained because I'm 'slow'. Nah, I just did it right.

As a dairy queen worker, the food is generally ok but don't buy the burgers, listen the patty is just. Eh, it's not great. Don't buy anything with the peanut butter, at least in our location, it's really gross. Maybe it tastes good but at least by look, it looks awful and flows weirdly. Also don't trust the gluten free. If it's busy that blender is not being cleaned properly. So do not eat there if you have celiac or Hashimotos. And if your ice cream is a little melty, it's because we are at least 4 cars behind and the chill workers are faster then the grill workers. So while us in chill are 4 cars behind the people in grill are 7 and often things need to be remade. It's a mess. Advice for oderering, sat what differnet or specific changes you want as you order that food. If the cashier is good, that food item will already be onscreen. So try to think of the changes and say them as you order because if you're really slow, that ice cream is halfway or completely done already if you’re ordering a lot of food. Also you can request basket items al carte. (Cheese curds come in regular and large. Large is much too expensive, just get regular and some soft prezels for that price) At least at my location which only has teenagers. The only adults are our manager and the supervisors. It's a mess but we try. So if you're upset about it being kinda melty, please put it in the fridge for a bit, don't yell at the workers

Firstly, small pizzas are much more infrequent, meaning that the dough we have becomes very mushy and stale, giving you a worse product that is much harder to shape properly. On top of this, a single small pizza will cost WAAY more than it should, maybe even like 13 dollars just for the single one, you're better off ordering a large or two mediums

DQ is honestly a pretty good restaurant when it comes to food you get pretty good portions for the price but the 3 things I would say to stay away from is 1. The side salad it’s literally lettuce and tomatoes in a small plastic container(same one used in the banana split) 2. Grilled chicken sandwiches, while they are good the texture when they were raw was really weird 3. Rotisserie chicken bite basket, In a regular rotisserie basket you get 6 tiny pieces of chicken and pay the same amount as a regular 4 piece with 4 decent size strips. DQ actually does have pretty good quality and portions at least at the one I work at.

Working at Starbucks I get kind of annoyed when people order Frappuccinos or refreshers, due to how much it breaks my pace, but I can handle that. I'll live. Most of the annoyance is when it's ordered during a rush. But if you're going to pull up your TikTok app and show me a drink being played without explaining or discussing it yourself, just know I hate you lol So... If you've ordered a cotton candy frappe, a luffy drink, or a iced matcha with oat milk/iced chai with almond milk with brown sugar; I'm silently judging you. The last two aren't really "TikTok" drinks, but a lot of the people who order it come in all smug, thinking that they're doing something unique and different. That smugness bothers me. Most of the people who order things I would be surprised didn't choose to go to a boba shop, if it was closer to them lol I like the job, though, so I'll live regardless what you order. Adding onto this as a Jimmy Johns employee, here's a short list of things I recommend: -Every location is owned by a different franchise and has a different set of rules for what's allowed and not. So please make sure you ask, and no, we do not toast our subs and hopefully never will. -If you're ordering two or more of the same sandwich on our french bread (ex., two of the number 6 veggie), ask for a Giant as it gives you two whole sandwiches from one 16in a loaf for only a couple dollars less. Also, on the subject of that, while our little johns (which are 6in loaves) only come in the originals (1-6 and BLT), we'd be more than happy to give you a Favorite (7-17 and Gargantuan) if you know the ingredients and are willing to pay any additional costs that come with it as our meat, cheese, and avocado spread are extra. -If you're trying to be healthier but still want some chips, you can still get any of the flavored chips. If you're not wanting to snatch a Thinny Chip bag for whatever reason, the extra flavor doesn't add anything to it. So feel free to get some BBQ for your lettuce wrap sub. -Water cups are always free, and most of the time, you can get a 30oz/Large; however, if you want to have a combo, you need to order bottled water because our system is dumb. If you ask for it, we'll even hook you up with said 30oz filled with ice.

Former Subway worker here. The owner of the one I worked at told the manger to replace the stickers instead of the meats and veggies. The owner refused to properly fix the freezer and the AC unit. He owns every subway except 2 in my area. He also tells his employees they are NOT allowed to discuss their wages with their coworkers, which I believe is illegal on a federal level (feel free to correct me because I could be wrong on that). The bar where the sandwiches were made was failing and it took him almost a month to get someone in there to look at, not fix it just look to see if they could find the problem but I left before the person came and it wasn't a year after I left that they closed due to the freezer and lack of customers. I just hope I wasn't the reason for their slow business when I told the town gossip about the stickers 😏

ANOTHER good note for not just fast food but any small retailor like gas stations be it timewise, 7/11, valero, etc.... try your best to NEVER give $50s and $100s before noon or after 9pm as many stores due to shift changes will have low cash volumes in their registers due to resets and shift changes. its for their safety to not have huge bills and lots of cash on hand. ALSO NOTE try not to break 20s on a sale worth under $10. it heavily inconveniences the clerk to have to rid all their 5s and 1s constantly which means you run the risk of making a store have to resort to card only much more often. if you ever noticed that its because people fail to realize not paying as close as possible the amount in cash WILL result in heavier inconveniences for all. ALL clerks appreciate you using your card more. the less a clerk has to manage in cash the better their mood will be.

Got a few from a touring a hospital kitchen during an interview to be a cook. If you want potatos order a baked one, every other kind is just dust out of a box. Also if you want anything with meat tell them to cook it well done, because the management pushes the cooks to get things finished fast instead of doing it right, seen more than a handful of dishes leave that looked concerningly raw so they could start making the next order. And finally be wary if you have any food allergies, they're more concerned about the dishes and utensils being disinfected instead of cleaned, after all if you get sick that's just more money they can make off of you.

"Cross-contamination is not our problem." As someone who has worked in fast food before being diagnosed with food allergies, that line really depresses me. Us with food allergies really are not asking for a whole lot. It takes 10 to 20 seconds to wipe up your work area and switch out your gloves before making my meal. I get that nobody is perfect, mistakes can be made (I avoid lettuce due to my onion allergies because I understand that onions can fall into the lettuce bin), and that workers are up against a clock, but I find the overall attitude from that person who claims it's not their problem to be pretty dogshit.

I stopped eating pork years ago it's a semi religious thing for me as a Christian it's not against my faith however I gave it up for my faith ... Anyway cross contamination is why don't eat out and I've known people who were Jewish or Muslim who couldn't wrap their minds around the idea that the people in the restaurant don't care about other peoples eating habits ... My last straw was a pizza ... when you give up pork for prolonged time periods you're body stops being able to digest it and it'll make you very sick I've always loved when people asked me would I eat it if I was starving ... The answer is no because there is no point I'll throw it up ... I ate one slice of a cheese pizza and threw up for hours that's when I realized they took the pepperonis off a pepperoni pizza and called it cheese pizza after that I decided to just cook my own food

If you’ve got allergies I recommend letting the people serving you know before ordering. Cross contamination in some places is unavoidable and if you let your server know then they can take precautions to make sure the food hasn’t been touched by any other ingredients
@CertifiedClapaholic

@@LT-qx9wt yeah, in a perfect world, that works. Unfortunately, there is no shortage of people out there that are either ignorant to food allergies or downright refuse to care and treat you like you're the biggest inconvenience. It's pretty frustrating because I am always extremely polite and try to explain my needs but I can't tell you how many times it has gone in one ear and out the other with servers. I just avoid eating out anymore but it really puts a damper on my social interactions with my friends because eating at a restaurant together is a human bonding activity that I cannot participate in.

Surprised this wasn't mentioned. I still love the stuff and the chili preparation process reboils the meat so it's honestly fine. But, at Rally's/Checker's? The grill cook has a tin in their meat freezer for "chili meat." This will be anything that gets burned or sits in the sandwich well for an hour or, most likely, got dropped on the floor. It gets frozen overnight, and then the next morning at opening it gets diced up and added to the chili mix. Yep. That chili dog is part burger that fell under the grill yesterday, got frozen, and then was boiled back to temp.

Current Sonic cook, I pretty much agree with the statements about the store. One thing I'd also like to add, please don't get rude with the employees taking your order via headset. The stalls have crappy cheap mics in them and it is very hard to hear most of the time, especially if you leave your vehicle running. Also if you order during any kind of rush, and complain about a long wait time remember that you aren't the only one there and most locations are almost always under staffed. Overall just be patient with the workers as we're doing what we can to get your orders out to you.

I worked at McDonald's for a year. I wouldn't really say anything was bad to order. Worst case scenario, you get some not-so-fresh decaf coffee, but you can always request a fresh pot of coffee. Everything was always fresh, and the place was very sanitary. A crew came in regularly to deep-clean the place. The smell was disgusting when that happened, but all that nastiness was staying out of the restaurant.

Stick with something that doesn’t HAVE to be toasted (certain meats) and it’s okay to be picky about your veggies there have them throw out the old slimy ones if they aren’t already don’t let them put that on your food.
