14:51 Actually, this is something that saved Wendy’s as a franchise. They started recycling beef from other foods (burgers mainly) into their chili when they aren’t being eaten. It saved them so much money on costs and increased the amount of money they could make per meat import, and decreased the amount of waste they produced.

I was a Wendy’s manager for a time. The beef really isn’t frozen. It comes refrigerated in vacuum sealed plastic, which increases the shelf life. The chili is made in the store from overcooked hamburger patties. Wendy’s doesn’t cook patties to order. There’s always patties sizzling on the grill. If they’re not used after a certain time, they’re put aside for chili. The chili consists of a dry packet of seasoning, a canned liquid tomato sauce type base, and hamburger meat. The ingredients are combined, simmered, and served. I worked there a long time ago, but you would never find a microwave at a Wendy’s. They were forbidden by Dave Thomas. Customers, especially older people, would eat slowly. Their food would get cold and they’d ask us to nuke it. Most didn’t believe us when we said we didn’t have a microwave.

(also the chili fact just sounds like a semi wasteful at first till realised fact then it proved its niceness)

Not sure if this could be considered "mind-blowing" but I certainly found it interesting when I started my job. Basically, calico (white, orange and black) and tortoiseshell (black and orange) cats are almost always female. It's possible for them to be male, but it's exceptionally rare. I didn't know that until I started working a data entry job at an animal shelter

I had one of the weirdest calicos. He was a long-haired 3/4 grey (dark grey) and looked very much like a Prussian Blue, though he could have been a Nebelung. When I took him into my room and had the UV light on he had two big dark purple patches and a purplish brown patch. I thought his hair was dirty, so I gave him a bath. Nope, that was the colors his hair took on under black light.

I work at a vet as a receptionist. 1. If you're thinking about getting pet insurance for your new puppy or newly adopted adult dog, do it. Most insurance companies have caught up to the times and may be able to bundle your pet insurance with your pre-existing car/house/etc insurance. Pet insurance companies are also a lot more strict in overall coverage and in what is considered "pre-existing". Some of the more common stand-a-lone pet insurances I see are Lemonade and Embrace. Nationwide is a common major company that offers bundles with car and home insurances. Pet insurance operates differently than human insurance. You're responsible for paying your vet up front. Submit a claim to your insurance, and they will reach out to your vet to request the necessary records to process the claim. Your vet most likely has no idea what your pet insurance covers, so you should know prior to scheduling your appointment. 2. Call your vet if you think there's an emergency. Not all owners do this, and you might think "Why are you making more work for yourself?" I'd rather have an owner call us on Wednesday with concerns and have to put an appt on my books just in case and callback Friday to say "Yeah, this isn't clearing up, I'll be coming in today" or "Cleared up fine, go ahead and cancel the appointment" than get blindsided at 2:50 on a Friday afternoon for this thing you've been watching happen for 48 hours. We won't ALWAYS tell you to come in for an appointment because believe it or not, our day is likely already full and we are taking overbooks on an as needed basis only. 3. Even if it's just an ear infection, yes, your pet may still need to come in. As an example, ear infections can present as fungal, bacterial, or parasite-based (ear mites), and unfortunately, a vast majority of owners can't tell the difference. Even if it's JUST an ear infection, it would cost you more money and time for us to prescribe something and be wrong than for you to come in once so we can get it right the first time. Not to mention, it's unethical for us to just prescribe something without knowing the full scope of the problem and prescribing the wrong thing could cause your pet great discomfort and maybe even damage their hearing, especially if what was prescribed doesn't treat the issue and makes it worse. 4. If you notice something wrong that started AFTER your pet began taking meds that were prescribed, stop the medications and call your vet. Not all medications will sit well with EVERY pet. Sometimes there may be vomiting, diarrhea, and lethargy. Sometimes, it can be worse. If your pet has never had a reaction to that medication, we have no way of knowing whether or not it will sit well with your pet (this, of course, doesn't include meds your pet has already had before). The only thing we know is that a vast majority of pets don't have a problem with that medication. If your pet has a reaction and it seems to be caused by the medication that was prescribed, we will stop the medication, refund you if we can (loose pills can be REFUNDED but NOT RETURNED; blister packs should be able to be BOTH RETURNED and REFUNDED, due to the nature of the packaging), and put a note on your pet's account so as to not prescribe that medication to them again. 5. If your pet passes on, take their stuff to a rescue. We're thankful for any bedding you're willing to donate but bowls, open medications, and open food would better serve a rescue. Vets are able to order anything they need and most likely will not give any of their clients the medications or food you give them. We have rules and laws we have to abide by just like any other medical establishment, and if something were to happen to a pet because we gave them food or medications that were returned to us, we'd be (rightfully) in a lot of legal trouble. 6. We're aware of the cost of your services. We know it's expensive because it's also expensive for us. We would love to charge you the "at cost" and absolutely would if we could make a profit off of it. Unfortunately, we have to charge you more because we need to make a profit if we want to stay in business and continue servicing our client base. We're not "in it for the money" but money is what we gotta have if we want to provide the care your pet needs. Most of the people working at vets most likely aren't even making a living wage (I make $12.50/hr, and I've been at this job for 5yrs), and most of us genuinely only stay at those jobs because we enjoy helping pets and rescue wasn't paying enough to cover our costs of living.

Putting random cold food in random fridges around the store won't save the food from being thrown away. If employees suspect it's been on the floor too long it'll be thrown away. That's why if you can't be certain about your food budget you should get mostly food that doesn't require being frozen because that cold food will be thrown away because you had it in your cart for 30 minutes.

Janitorial, especially nighttime janitorial, comes with an enormous health risk if it's at larger venues. I've dealt with stuff I was pretty sure should have required a proper clean suit. Especially because someone made the mess and then just left it and didnt tell anyone and that comes with a real risk of sicknesses such as hepatitis. And that's not even getting into the dirty needles in certain areas. Please, if you go to an event, just... try not to add to the mess. And if you get sick and do make a mess just... tell someone. We can dump some oops and disinfectant on it and make the cleanup faster and safer.

The last one is why I tell people that if you're just printing documents, get a monochrome laser printer instead. Usually Brother is still an honorable mention for those. My Brother MFC-L2700dw is more than 10 years old now. And since I rarely print, the toner cartridge it came with lasted me nearly 9 years.

I got a Canon color laser printer like 8 or so years ago. Still using it. Haven't had to replace the toners yet since i don't use it that often. That's why i got laser instead of inkjet. The HP printers I got would go unused for a while and the ink dried up clogging the pipes and would have to buy a new printer. Did that a couple times before I learned my lesson.

Can confirm the military budget comment. At the end of one of my exercises, we were told that we had too much ammunition left over but we didn't want to get a reduction so we were told that we needed to "cut down some trees". We ended up with three people shooting the guns at trees and the rest of the company linking ammo. $30,000 worth of ammunition, three glowing gun barrels, and 6 trees later and our command structure was happy with the now empty ammunition canisters.

7:51 applies to politics in general, not just the military. If your office's entire budget has not been spent, the next year you're likely to get your funding reduced. I've seen some really silly ways to blow the entire budget at the last minute like very lavish Christmas parties with extravagant giveaways, first class official trips to luxury hotels, or even just purchasing a 5 years supply of a specific material they use constantly.

Last Story, my dad used to run a photocopier company, and eventually transition to printers. In the early 2000's Lexmark was actually a very good company, at least for businesses. We ended up keeping one of those printers for ourself, and served us well for many years, doing their own refills. Once they started adding those limitations, it broke our ability to run our business, and we decided to shut it down while we were ahead.

I worked at a public university for a few years. Department budgets there were use it or lose it. The supply department had boxes of pens that were so old they didn’t work anymore. The reason is that an over abundance was always bought at the end of the fiscal year to burn through money. Frugality was definitely penalized 😮

Thrift store owner: A lot of thrift stores who are charities or are owned by charities do not do their charity work by selling to the less fortunate. In fact the most of our customers are people who are comparatively well off but are frugal. The charity is the money made which gets used for what the charities’s mission is. So if you see a ticktock of a reseller going to goodwill, their not depriving anyone. Also as a former Wendy’s employee, most of it is actually fresh, the chilli meat is frozen, but just because its recycled burger patties from the day before, and always right off the line before being cut up and stored in the deep freeze.

Food courier here (Deliveroo, Uber Eats, Just Eat) The reason that your food is late a lot of the time is because couriers who work for these companies have no obligation to complete an order until the restaurant hands them the food. If it's a slow day in Macdonald's and the food is taking too long, a lot of us will just patch the order and go look for a restaurant that's ready on arrival. Your order is then bounced around whoever else is available in the area. Sometimes it takes so long to get someone who wants to do the order the restaurant has to remake the food entirely. All of this is relayed to the customer as "The restaurant is now making your order!" Also, don't try and put your location marker as somewhere closer to the restaurant than your actual address is. You might be able to get some frightened student to deliver your food because they don't know what to do in that situation but a lot of us will just turn up to the GPS pin, wait out a timer and then cancel your order. We get paid for the distance we travel and very few of us will tolerate having to go farther than what we're paid for. Lastly, if it's taking a while for your food to be assigned to a driver it's probably because the company you ordered from isn't paying us enough. Orders are given a bare minimum fee that an algorithm determines and then sends out to riders. If someone doesn't like the order, they reject it. If the order is rejected by too many people, the algorithm puts the fee up slightly and goes around everyone again to see if the higher fee will change their minds. What's funny about this is that some orders get made late at night when restaurants are closed and the algorithm doesn't realise this, it just thinks that riders don't like the fee. So you'll see a Macdonald's order at midnight that's priced at £10 for half a miles journey

Ex luxury menswear store clerk. Most high end boutiques claiming to create custom suits, jackets or anything of the sort are actually outsourcing the manufacturing, and don't do any of the work in house. For example, you're likely to get an Isaia (or equivalent) suit from 7/10 "bespoke suitmakers" you'll ever encounter. Make sure you ask about in house production, and if they hesitate, be blunt and ask about who they're outsourcing to. You could get a great deal on a suit

Just wanna share my own before I watch the vid. Automation Engineer here. Our job is to think up, build, repair, and maintain automatic systems of all kinds. You'd be scared if you knew how often those 10-50 year old machines has so many modifications not on the technical documents, that they're almost completely different machines now. Main reason why I can't return to the trade, as I lose my cool every time I see it. There's also a lot of "winging it" in that trade, as the machines needs to be operational asap. However, these improvised fixes are supposed to be taken off and get REAL repairs once the machine is not on the clock. The "Old guard" in the trade, often have the very worst case of the mindset -if it ain't broke, don't fix it-, which leaves younger, inexperienced technicians with a machine that suddenly breaks down and have 1000 things wrong with it, only to get bad-mouthed for being lazy when the report says "it's faster and cheaper to get a new one". Reading that back, I noticed I needed to vent a bit there. Thanks for reading. TL:DR, Factories are ticking timebombs thanks to old machinery and older "duct tape works fine" mentality.

I tried to get into technical writing a while back, loved everything about it, and I knew about the legal implications it can have from the start. But, whenever I told someone that was the career I was shooting for NONE of them understood how serious of a job that is, it's workaholics galore, when you aren't working you are studying in order to do your job and when you aren't doing that you are doing research in order to do your job and when you aren't doing that you are networking for any number of reasons. In some cases you can literally become the communication center for an entire business, hopefully you're on a team for that. BUT, at any moment, any mistake or oversight could not only ruin your company but also your own reputation, basically fired and struggle to find work again. But noooo, everyone who hears the words "technical writer" thinks you just sit an office all day typing up easy shit. When in reality you do that AND graphic design, learning and using computer languages, studying and double checking legal jargon on top of all other work related jargon, interviews, case studies, on hands research and testing, and so much more. We are the one's who make and design the pictures, translate complicated jargon into understandable coherent explanations and clear and concise directions, and we are the one's who have to create those complicated legal chunks of words to protect you and our company from stupid people and jerks alike. It's a dream job for a Jack of all trades really. It was disappointing to learn that it normally required a Bachelors degree AND experience in another career profession first, so employers made it nearly impossible for actual technical writers to get into the career themselves and way easier for anyone who already has a professional career in anything and then just have them get a lousy certificate in technical writing (creating a lack of skill in the parts that technical writers actually need to have in order to do the job right). Yet, as people say, most people throw that junk into the trash when they buy stuff. Overall just making technical writers one of the most MASSIVELY underappreciated professions in existence.

I'd like to add, from working for an electronics manufacturer in the past, that those EULA terms that say you can't use "counterfeit" cartridges for printers won't hold up in court. It's like most non-compete clauses in employment contracts. Doesn't make it illegal for them to have a way for the printer to tell whether the ink cartridge is from them or not, but all they can really do if you find a way around it is refuse warranty repairs and firmware updates.

Commenting on the Wendy's entry: I cannot speak for breakfast service but the beef patties are refrigerated, not frozen or stored in freezing temperatures and the chili is not canned. They have bag mixes of the beans, chilis, and spices used in the chili and the meat comes from patties that are either just overcooked or fell apart while cooking. Basically, if it's edible but not burger worthy, it goes in the chili pan.

As an ex-employee, the wendy's statement is accurate. The meat is never delivered frozen and it gets delivered two or three times a week The chili does not come out of a can. The base is actually in a bag and THAT is frozen, and the meat in it is the hamburger that wasn't used quickly enough, and it's put away and save it for the chili after 3-5 minutes.

The soup and shit 15:00 comes out of a can but the beef is cooked from the grill that is too dark to serve. Its put in an MPHC drawer until shift change then rinsed off and baggged up for the kext day. That is put in the freezer Though if there wasnt much waste beef then you had to intentionally cook more to fill up the three 6" deep third size pans. However uncooked beef is sat near the back of the walkin cooler as clse to the freezer as possible. But its never actually frozen. Source worked at wendys for 5 years.

I work for a (cable) internet service provider. 1: Most of your internet related problems are bad and old cable...like 75% 2: Your area is a big factor. There are known and documented areas that have bad plant meaning the power post have bad feeder and every house on the block has old and ****y cable. If you think solving that in a timely manner is possible - it's not. 3: One house with really bad cable can disrupt an entire block. So much so, I have seen more than enough times one house crash and entire area causing a large on going outage. 4: Your internet likely sucks because you and your neighbors do not call in the issues and accept it as is. They will *very rarely* come to you without a call and sometimes multiple calls is necessary. 5: These techs coming to your home are not IT computer and electronic gods. They are cable technicians. They find bad cable and fix replace them. So many people think these guys are going to fix every device in your house. One they don't have time for that, and two they are likely amateur. They are responsible for the Modem and the cable attached -everything else is just a favor. 6: Wind is a huge role in issues. It causes cracks on the post and ruins cables attach to your house. Weather has always caused more service calls.

I worked for a major fruit juice producer for 19 years. Most juice concentrates require refrigeration while waiting to be reconstituted Tomato puree, used in tomato juice, and apple concentrate do not require refrigeration and were stored in 55 gallon steel drums in the back room of the warehouse. The tomato puree keeps pretty well due to extremely high acid content. The apple concentrate, not so much. When the lid is cut off the drum with a giant hand held electric can opener, if there is LESS than two inches of white, hairy mold floating on top of what looks like 54 gallons of maple syrup, after scraping off the mold, it is usable. If there's a little bit more than 2 inches, after scraping off the mold, a sample is sent to the lab. If the sample clears the lab, it is used. If there is substantially more than two inches of mold, the barrel has to be dumped. The next time you open a fresh bottle of apple juice from concentrate, pour it in a glass and drink it. If you pull a hair off your tongue, it probably didn't come from your husband, wife, kid, dog, cat or even the blender operator at the juice plant.....

An Industrial Dishwasher's soap has no abrasives in it so it cannot clean stuck on food. You must scrape it off manually. The worst grime I had to scrape off were fifty trays of ribs, bone in, cooked out of their ever loving minds. The entire stock of our heaviest degreaser was used just to get it to the point of being able to be run through the dishwasher. The stuff wasn't cheap either.

I used to process return orders. Just an fyi - not matter what my company told their customers, none of the stuff they sent in for checking was actually checked. It was all dumped into the trash. All they wanted was to make sure nobody would sneak out a free replacement on them in order to have a second item. Also - if the product was too cheap - at the time below 30 € - we never requested it back. It just wasn't worth the efford for our company. Also Also: Nobody actually cared for the intricate description of how the product failed. We didn't care for making the products better. Just to replace them so the customers would stop complaining. And yeah, I meant this to sound that negatively. When I started working there I was young and full of positive thoughts about everything. Working in that company made me realice how f...ed up that company actually was. Even when they seem to do a nice thing.

I knew an IV is not a metal needle once it is in place and the remove the metal needle from the center of it. Can you imagine how awful that would feel having a sharp piece of metal in you all day or for hours? I remember once I had blood drawn, it was one of the quickest and most painless experiences with a needle I have had. I don't like needles normally and still remember a shot in the upper part of the mouth at the dentist's office. In that spot they hurt like all heck because of the tissue density. It seems very ironic that something intended to prevent a sensation of pain can hurt so much!! When the dentist wants to numb me there I just tell him only if there is no other way because it hurts so much there. I know they are not there to cause pain but the things they do are often painful.

The stuff about Wendy's is true. When I worked there, the meat came in these long square sleeves. It wasn't frozen, to their credit. The chicken and fries were, but the beef was fresh. At the end of the night, if there wasn't enough cooked patties left over they'd cook more for the chili. It gets thrown in the fridge and chopped up the next day with a bunch of bags of pre-made junk. Some people thought the idea of using the same beef for burgers as the chili was "gross", but I never understood. Chili has beef in it. Where do you think the store is going to get the beef from, if they don't freeze the beef? It's fine, it's just cooked in patty form. Personally, I'd recommend never getting food from Wendy's. Their wait time sucks for food that tastes like everywhere else. Burger King or KFC at least mix things up a bit. Chick-fil-A is probably the best, because it seems to treat its workforce like actual humans.

Story #8 "Lots of people work really hard to write all those electronics manual that you don't read". No, no they don't. They used to (and probably did when this thread was made), but there is less and less in the manual. Several times on pc builder forums people have asked questions about their Motherboard, and I think "That's in the manual, I looked up that exact thing for my Motherborad." Find their manual. and it's not there. There is much "these are the things on you board" and much less "here is how you configure them" now.

Wow that Chili's fajita one is so stupid it literally made my brain hurt. I've worked for Chili's and an authentic Mexican restaurant (my Mexican born dad's business) and the fajitas at both places functioned almost identically, with slight variations to their "sizzle sauce" recipes. The cast iron hot plates are placed in an oven or over a gas stove flame to heat up while the food is being cooked, then when it's ready to go out to the customer the employee delivering the order (me usually) grabs a wooden hot plate holder plank thing and position it in the pass window. He/she then "calls" for it to one of the cooks to signal we are ready, they then place the food on top of the hot plate then on top of the wooden plank (which already starts lightly sizzling at this point) then finally pour the sizzle sauce over the food to start "the show" all while roaring hot popping liquid burns our forearms on our way out to the customer. Needless to say, sizzling fajitas are called sizzling fajitas because they are literally sizzling because that's what food does on a ripping hot cast iron mini pan essentially. I absolutely detest Chili's menu especially their overpriced sub par fajitas but there's nothing fake or misleading about that dish the way that post implied. OP either has a lifelong fundamental misunderstanding over what sizzling means or heard the term "sizzle sauce" and came to the asinine conclusion that the whole thing was some fake parlour trick.

A canula in your arm is not a "tiny" plastic tube. When they took mine out I just about shit myself. Sure it's not metal, which might tear the vein, but it's sharp, pointy, and... bigger than you think. A related thing is when your IV bag runs out during the night, and your blood pressure sends blood squirting up the tube and making a mess of the bag. It doesn't fill or anything, you don't lose a lot of blood, it's too high up, it's just something horrifying to wake up to in the middle of the night. Press the button, nurse says it's fine, it's normal, it happens. Oh. Back to sleep then.

With milk, the lower the fat content, the higher the calcium content. Whole milk has less calcium than 2% milk, and 2% milk has less calcium than 1% milk. If you’re going for calcium, go with 1% milk. Also, the reason they add vitamin D to milk is that your body needs vitamin D to absorb the calcium from the milk.

I mean, depending on the IV placement, you still don't want to move that area a bunch. Any IV placed in an area that bends should be supported by a board to keep the joint straight. You can DEFINITELY blow an IV there if you're not careful.
@Rin-ig3ci

I went in for surgery once, kept my arm straight to minimize discomfort or extra damage, but when I woke up they had both my arms folded over my chest and it created visibly awful brusing at the IV sight that lasted a week or two afterwards. The surgery didn't go to my liking either, so, as okay as it turned out in the end with me being no worse off than before beside a couple scars, I am forever going to hate the doctor and that hospital. I was definitely out cold the whole time, so I assume one of the doctors or nurses put my arm like that. Even they should have seen the red and purple surrounding the injection site. Makes me wonder if someone yanked on it while I was out. 😖 The next time I got an IV I was conscious the whole time and kept my arm straight, and it healed up nicely just like it should. The tube still came out looking bent. So... I don't care how bendable anyone says it is, I've seen what can happen to a straw, I'm not taking that leap of faith just because someone says so. Everything should work the way it's supposed to as long as it is connected to me! 😫
@JerkleCirc
@JerkleCirc Жыл бұрын
@@Rin-ig3ci I grew up with an immune deficiency, around some of the best doctors for it, and getting IVs every couple weeks (not to mention all the PICC lines). The line is placed when the arm is straight. There's more than just bending when you bend your arm. There's movement of the vein, the muscles around it. Regardless of how bendy the catheter is, it does not mean a line cannot be blown or pulled if moved incorrectly. Glad to hear you only had a couple scars. NEVER settle for subpar care. ESPECIALLY in the US. If we're not going to have free healthcare because "nO oNe WoUlD bE dOcToR", then I expect my healthcare to be worth the price.
