I love the fact that seasoned guitar players say, "How did you learn how to play guitar like this?"....
@TobyRyan
@TobyRyan 3 жыл бұрын
For sure. I do encourage people to learn a physical instrument like guitar, piano, banjo, mandolin, really anything… Because the self-discipline of an art form is a beautiful thing and an investment in yourself. It’s through that physical instrument that I’ve discovered these virtual instruments. My answer for how I learned how is the same as how I learned my guitar: I woke up one day with a passion to explore it. Through that discovery, I’ve also learned a second instrument: the piano. :)

what would be your pick if you had to get one of each? one acoustic guitar, one electric, one electric bass? i want to get at least 3 or 4 but they all sound good..i love the 80s and i love clean not so much metal or heavy sounds
@TobyRyan
@TobyRyan 4 жыл бұрын
Oh man, that’s a tough question! Each electric guitar has presets (clean and distorted) designed for that guitar. Some based on popular songs. The AGLP (Gibson Les Paul) has more 80’s inspired presets that I’ve noticed. The guitars I reach for most tend to be AGM (Martin) being slightly brighter than the AGT (Taylor has a rounder upfront mid range.). The ABP (Precision Bass) has a balanced tone and sounds great with most instruments. Then the AGLP (Gibson Les Paul) or AGSH (Semi Hollow) for warm full body clean tone. The reason for these is those fit a lot of the songs I loved growing up, so I’m more familiar and tend to gravitate to them. Once you play one and it feels right, trust that intuition and you can’t go wrong. Have you tried their free trials on the downloads page? I think those are worth it especially since you like 80’s vibes, I’d grab the AGLP first and see if it resonates with you.

hi, I'm your Korean subscriber! I have a question. If I buy the ample electric guitar lp, can I use those nice plugins such eqs and amps and mics you used in the vid?
@TobyRyan
@TobyRyan 4 жыл бұрын
Hello and thank you! That’s a really good question. Unfortunately at this time, these effects cannot be used as individual plugins outside of the guitar plugin or on other sounds. They’re baked into the instrument signal flow, specifically for the instrument. That is a great idea though! If you’re needing a great multipurpose EQ, I highly recommend Nova or Nova GE by TDR Labs. www.tokyodawn.net/tdr-nova/

@TobyRyan
@TobyRyan 3 жыл бұрын
Hey there! That’s a pretty diverse genre, but to narrow it down to the bands you love, I’d recommend using equipboard.com because you can search a band and see the gear they use. Everything from guitars to amps, mics, etc.. for example, I saw that Linkin Park uses PRS guitars, and Ample Sound has a Peregrine Falcon guitar that’s a PRS custom and they even have Linkin Park presets that give the sound of some of their guitar tones. Now I’m sure more obscure bands will be more difficult, but it was cool to use Equipboard to narrow it down and find what I wanted. Highly recommend exploring it and finding the bands you like and seeing if Ample Sound has a similar or same guitar.

what electric guitar do u recommend for hiphop type beat ( juice wrld, the kid laroi, iann dior, 24k goldn) just pick one!! and how do u think about kontakt ELECTRIC SUNBURST DELUXE
@TobyRyan
@TobyRyan 3 жыл бұрын
Oh, if I was forced to choose one, I’d pick the AGSW (Semi-Hollow) for it’s warmer midrange tonality and finger library that lends itself a great sound. It’s so buttery smooth, but can also shred with its selection of amps. Ample Sound guitars are more versatile, can be fully customizable in different ways as posed to the Electric Sunburst by Native Instruments. Both are excellent choices. Ample Sound instruments are not NKS compatible like NI instruments. I have the Electric Sunburst and it’s awesome for its rhythmic strums, chugs, and arps. I haven’t tried the deluxe, but I’d imagine it’s more of what it’s great at. It depends on your writing style and the tools you enjoy using. If you prefer writing in your MIDI roll or just easily playing a few keys, I’d say the ES is by far the easiest solution to a great sound. I use Komplete Kontrol keyboards and Maschine pads so I’m fairly invested in NI’s ecosystem, so The Sunburst plays nicely with those.

@Axel_Xirics_Music
@Axel_Xirics_Music 3 жыл бұрын
They sound fantastic tonewise. But my only gripe with them ( But i'm sure as all technology keeps advancing further ) is that there is no pick dynamic to the strings being hit. Like that initial transient, that click from the guitar pick, whether it'd be a chord or one note, you know, that one thing that would set it apart from other VSTs. I mean, they did manage to do that with a couple of Bass VSTs, mainly EZ-Bass and Loki Bass, those do have that pick attack i'm talking about. But who knows, maybe this one has and i've yet to hear. Cheers!
@TobyRyan
@TobyRyan 3 жыл бұрын
That’s a great point and I agree. While it has velocity layers of picking and a simplified ADSR in settings, it would be awesome to have more control of these dynamics. I’d also like to see the ability to introduce palm muting variability, for example, a way to perform the pressure of the palm mute. It's not as noticeable on electric, but both these and the acoustic guitars would certainly benefit from these types of performance dynamics.

@TobyRyan
@TobyRyan 4 жыл бұрын
The trick to getting a clean sound is really in the amp selection and cabinet. I started with the Default preset, then adjusted the amp, cabinet, and mic options to taste. To enhance the room and vibe, I added fx like room reverb and a delay for the ping pong style bouncy feel. Finally adding EQ for a little more brightness. However, if you'd like to reverse engineer and customize my preset, you can download it here. Add it inside your Ample Sound > AGLP > Presets folder. Have a great weekend, Nico! www.mediafire.com/file/nut710vsbxw11b5/Toby%2527s_Custom_LP.aglpstate/file

Hey bro, when its playing on my DAW, sometimes there's a unwanted sound like a click sound of cable.. Do you have any solution bro??
@TobyRyan
@TobyRyan 4 жыл бұрын
That’s a good question! I’ve had that happen too. It’s possible it’s CPU related, and one way to address it is to raise the DAW audio ‘buffer’ size from 32, 64, etc to something higher such as 256 to 512. Do be aware that raising this does introduce audio latency so finding a good balance where you can play notes and it not feel like there’s a noticeable lag is something worth experimenting with. How many instruments in a DAW matters too, so if you’re running a lot of VSTi and/or plugins, you might also consider ‘freezing’ tracks to save CPU. I hit the ceiling quite often and these two things help me manage those audio pops and clicks.

@TobyRyan
@TobyRyan 4 жыл бұрын
I’ll be the first to admit the reason it sounds MIDI is my performance in this video. There are a lot of great composers writing for the instrument that have inspired me, creating believable guitars. Since they’re not like Kontakt guitars that I’m more familiar with, it’s been a challenge to learn them but it’s been worth it to dive in and have the in-depth capabilities.

Toby Ryan I’m so used to the kontakt akkord guitars etc and until I found ample I was mostly using the kontakt library jazz guitar and running it through guitar rig. I just picked up the ample Martin, and am probably gonna do the same with that. I must say, it’s very confusing learning all of the key switches and how to get a good strum sound out of it but it seems extremely powerful in the right hands. I’ve absolutely loved using it for fast arpeggiated guitar passages with hammer ons and pull offs that I wouldn’t be able to do with my actual guitar skills. Hoping if I watch enough of your ample videos I’ll be able to figure out how to use the tools in full

It depends on what type of music you want to play. Both are good and they have their sound. SC is more Pop, (similar to early Coldplay, Daft Punk, Pink Floyd, and Eric Clapton.). Whereas the LP sound more like Guns and Roses, Eagles, Led Zeppelin, and Aerosmith. hie brother can u suggest which electric & acoustic guitar for chords and arps in edm genre
@TobyRyan
@TobyRyan 3 жыл бұрын
Great question! It’s a subjective choice for sure because each person gravitates towards certain sounds. The one I use most often is the AGTC (Telecaster). It has a clean sound palette to start with that’s versatile for many genres. For EDM it can be similar to the cinematic style of Illenium or even sound like pop/EDM music similar to Zedd, Chainsmokers, etc.. Before committing to a specific guitar, I recommend visiting a site like Equipboard.com and searching artists you enjoy, and then use this information to research the types of guitars they use. You can then use that information to select a VST guitar that will give you a similar sound palette and help you make the best decision that’s in line with your artistic vision.

in what scale u r playing the guitar?
@TobyRyan
@TobyRyan 4 жыл бұрын
That’s a great question! When writing for guitar and starting songs, I’ll usually write in F or D, then transpose them later. The key I choose depends on the feeling I want for a song, or in my case what is comfortable for my voice to sing in. My favorite keys are Eb, F and sometimes the key of D for guitar. Trust your intuition and pick what you feel sounds good and roll with it, or select songs that you like and use a similar key. Beyond my own ear and detecting a key, a tool I use quite often when writing to speed up my workflow is called Mixed In Key Studio, as it automatically detects the key I’m playing in, or if there’s a loop I like and want to know instantly what it is, I’ll add that plugin on the track and can quickly get direction. If you’re interested, mixedinkey.com/studio-edition I hope that helps!

They are individual instrument plugins that run in a DAW (digital audio workstation, example: Logic Pro, Ableton Live, etc.) and they also include a standalone app where if you just want to play that instrument, you can. The FX are included inside each guitar plugin/app and are unique to the instrument.
